I have gone back to rFactor in recent times. The focus for me is in making my own team and liveries rather than focus on driving for certain teams in the game. I also made sure to make my creations free. I think it would be foolish to pay for your own creation in game. So I fired up GIMP and designed away my liveries. A sad thing about my GIMP designing is that it doesn't save opacity data in DDS files. So I have to use Paint.net to export DDS file with opacity. For those of you who may wonder why opacity is such a big deal, it is because if you leave vehicles with 100% opacity, the vehicle bodies will come out very shiny. You can, though, leave certain parts of a livery to be shiny by picking only certain parts of vehicle liveries at higher opacity levels than others. Somewhere in the range of 50% to 75% opacity is good enough for just about any vehicle. Or if you prefer matte, go anywhere south of 50% opacity. This same advice also applies to liveries in Automobilista liveries.
I completed a lot of the SR Grand Prix races. The only one I have yet to clear is the Howston Pro Series. You need to have 50K Credits as an entry fee to compete in the series. So I am doing some grinding to raise enough money to compete in that series.
recently cleared the Lienz races with the Kodi Rayzor. I always thought the Rayzor was inspired by one of my all-time favorite cars- the Peugeot 206. The Rayzor is an excellent car to use, but you got be careful making sure not to get the car to slide too far into the corners. The car makes great power and is even a capable machine even tuned to RC2 spec.
What remains besides these is the OW Challenge races. Historically, I have been horrible with open wheel cars in games and mods. Most open wheel series are all about pure racing machines usually coming down to the driver with the cars being so close together performance-wise. What I found to be weird about rFactor is that the first series you start with are the Formula 1-style machines. Then, you go down to the rTrainer and rF3 cars. Maybe it's the fact I am just not as alert and talented racing F1-style cars why I haven't been good racing them. As with the other classes, I'll be making my own cars to compete in those Open Wheel Challenge events. I probably just need more practice racing with the BMW Sauber cars and the Formula IS cars.
