^this, totally this.

I would add Wild Flowers to that list, one of my favorite 90's era albums. I was lucky enough to see one of his shows back in 2006 and it turned out to be one of the best concerts I have ever been to (and I've seen the likes of Pink Floyd, Ray Charles live and so on, so that is saying something). Stevie Nicks lives in the Seattle area and so does Eddie Vedder, both of them got up on stage with Tom during that show.

Tom Petty let Eddy Vedder sing 'The Waiting' which Eddy did a great job as Tom and Stevie sang backing vocals. It struck me at the time that Tom Petty was such a humble guy to let someone else take over the lead vocals for one of his songs. Here is the video of it here:

They all hurt, but this one stings more than most, he is one of my favorite song writers of all time. RIP Tom, your were one of the greatest American song writers, up there with your good friend and peer, Bob Dylan. Thank you for all of the great music and memories. Sad day for music, just sad all around with everything going on.

If he's been taken off of life support with a DNR, if he hasn't passed already he will soon.

There doesn't seem to be any solid news past the point where he apparently suffered a heart attack at home and was taken to A&E.

Here's hoping for the best but fearing the worst.

Oh man. One of the groups song is a favorite of mine. Sadly I don't think the title is appropriate to mention due to the current situation.
Who knows, it might be depending on the listener.
RIP sir.

Big bummer following the tragedy in Vegas. What a day. One of the all time greats. :(

Let's at least wait until we know if he's dead.

This thread should probably be locked or deleted if he's not dead.
I would agree in most cases, but given the circumstances & TB's post, it's likely a short matter of time. Even if a miracle happened, I don't know if he'd ever be the same.

I've maintained for years that when choosing music to listen to, you can't go wrong with Tom Petty. A very talented songwriter has left the world today, and it's a real shame to see him go. Sounds like he's got his own room at the top of the world tonight.

A true musical legend. No other word for it. He may not have been in my time, but his music was a staple of roadtrips with my Dad. It can't be overstated how big of a loss he will be to the music industry.

RIP Tom Petty

Had an interesting thought this morning in the wake of Tom's passing. Tom Petty and the Heart Breakers are one of those rare acts that stayed relevant for 4 decades, which is extremely hard to do without evolving with the times and evolving your sound to stay relevant. Bands like the Rolling Stones and the Beatles evolved their sound much over the course of their respected carriers (the Rolling Stones even had Disco influenced album at one point). What's even more interesting about that statement is they didn't evolve or really change their sound all that much throughout those 40 years. They kept the same signature melodic rock sound they always had from the beginning, and it worked for them, they found long term success doing so. I own at least one Tom Petty album from every decade and they're all good.

I'm still reeling from this one. Sure, I enjoyed his music, but the nature of his passing means there wasn't time to come to terms with the pending loss.
