RKM Motorsport - Tuned Tuners - May '13

I've now tried both of your Emperor VI and The Emperor tunes now. I do have to say - both of them are very wonderful. Not flawless, but still great cars. I'll be keeping both of them in my garage for a while.

The Emperor VI is a very slick guy when it comes to cornering, and is a very easy drive. I almost made it completely clean around Nurburgring 24h with it - that is, until I somehow managed to totally fail at Hohenrain and wreck it, ruing the lap completely  But it really is very good. The stock exhaust is still alright, very buzzy, although it does get muted out literally completely by the tranny in the first 3 views. Annoyingly though it's best in hood view :indiff: Its speed in a straight line is nothing to laugh at, certainly, even despite the slightly long gear ratio it still did very well down the Dottinger. Out of corner acceleration was also very good, which is remarkable considering no turbo mods were done. Mind you, that stock turbo is still there...all it needs to be a great tuning superstar is just a little bit more speed, which, particularly with the Evo VI, is very easy. Still, it is a massive improvement over stock and it certainly isn't that slow to begin with. As aforementioned, the cornering is what is the big winning point of this car, just so slick and fast and easy. By the way, I did use to give overall scores of 20, but I'll simplify it down from now on. The Emperor VI gets a total score of 8/10 for me overall, although with decimals taken into account that number would be a lot higher. :sly:

The real Emperor is not quite as potent at cornering to begin with, particularly in lower speed corners. But, my god, is it a hell of a lot faster. Very good out of corner acceleration, good straight line speed, and the faster the corner, the better it is. It is a very good thrill-ride, and it would easily become very useful in the main game for sure. It's sort of similar to the CT230R, just less powerful (slightly), heavier (very slightly) and less understeery to begin with, albeit not quite as superb to drive in the very end. Consider this thing my trusty sidekick to my ultra CT230R...which has already won a race in the Gran Turismo All Stars by itself. I wonder what the limit for this Emperor could be...bearing in mind I only won on RS by 3 tenths on Trial Mountain in the CT230R I don't think it would be too smart to try that in the Emperor. I could stand a chance on the Nordschleife, mind you...to be honest, a more realistic target would be the Dream Car Championship, and to make it even harder, maybe an XJR-9 in the mix? :sly: But back to the performance and overall, the Emperor is a success. Huge speed, killer acceleration and very good corner means the Emperor passes with distinction. It just needs to be even better in the corners though to make it absolutely brilliant, so I shall also give it an 8/10.

Cheers guys.

I'll take the 8's. Thanks for the reviews. 👍

I'd like a VI without the gearbox whine, but the close-ratio transmissions don't provide the ratios I want, especially when they set the top speed so darn low. I didn't boost power by ridiculous amounts because it messes with the fun. As you can see when you compare the VI to the IX, the VI is much more fun although the IX is a much faster machine.

That's what the IX RM is in a nutshell. A less powerful, heavier CT230R with headlights. I prefer it though because it has AYC. Amazingly enough, the speed difference isn't that big. A decent enough driver could probably take the IX RM through the GTAS by itself too. Afterall, on racing tyres it's just going to get faster and even quicker through corners.

Emperor VI (Short) review- Who said I don’t like Evos?

Yea, in Sonic Blue with gold wheels, problem?

This is something worth writing about, this Emperor VI. It’s an Evo that I can put my hand on my heart and say I like. How can that be possible? Me? Liking an Evo to this extent? But does it matter? Nope. So, shall we dispense with the bull start my raving?

Let’s start with the handling. This Evo use to handle like a drunkard. It was wayward, slow to respond, and understeered off to its home, the gravel, more often than not. Now though, the steering is sharp, the car is predictable, understeer is next to non-existent with only a hint showing up on high speed bends. In low speed corners though, this VI is just heads and shoulders above any other Evo, tuned or not, that I’ve driven. It’s so composed, you turn and it responds with utter confidence. There’s no lurching like you’d get with any newer Evos, it doesn’t make a fuss, it just gets around the corner as quickly and as precisely as it can. Then, there’s the grip. It just feels infinite. You have every confidence in pushing it to the very limit but knowing that, should you step over the line, the grip will be there to catch you. And here’s the best bit. It handles with all the character of my CT230RR. And that’s as high a praise as I can give to any Evo. It really is that good.

But there’s another side to this car. I’d say, it goes about its business of lap times with the efficiency of the R35. Don’t kill me for saying this, Roj, it has a feel of the R35 on the track. The sense that there’s a lot of things going on behind the scene to keep you on the track. But unlike the R35, this has excitement. This has everything a R35 should have had. This feels like a mix of all that’s good about Japanese 4WD sports saloons. The grip of the Evo, the power of a GTR, the driver-friendliness of an Impreza and the spirit of all three combined. You can tell I’m a little in love with it, can’t you?

CT230RR Style Cornering. That's a good thing.

And I haven’t even finished with the raving yet. This particular VI was once a Wangan racer. I’ve had 205mph out of this thing, didn’t break a sweat doing so. But that was then, with 500hp to play with, this is now, with just under 400 and a new gearbox. So how does it get on? Very well, actually. Though the gears do look odd from the settings screen (6th is longer and starts out lower in the rev range than 5th?!?), it doesn’t seem to affect its performance in a straight line much. The car is just nudging 180mph without draft through the tunnels of SSR7. And it does it so effortlessly, dispatching each gear with ruthless efficiency, accelerating up to 170, where progress calms down a tad. This still has all the spirit of its past self, both in the corners and in a straight line. And I can only imagine how potent it can be when all 515 horses are unleashed through a set of RS slicks.

You know, since I bought my R32, this Evo has been left in the garage for months on end, just gathering dust. Not any more though. Thanks in no small part to this new tune, I've fallen in love with it once again. Now, who's up for hunting some new Kia Imprezas?:sly:

That's me, in the Evo, in the lead. Evo VI - 1, Kia Impreza - 0

Just wait till I add the pictures. It'll cause some controversy over the colour of the Evo ;)

Beat you to it! HA! Controversy is mine...

No, I mean I don't get what the reference was. Or was there no reference in the colours?

There wasn't a reference, just mentioning what I thought the colours were  Oh silly silly Onboy. :D

If I were using references for colour choices, I would have said Black and Yellow, silly. :sly:

Don't you dare pantronise me!!

And the pictures are up. If you don't see the 'controversy' (Dunno if I can even call it that), just look up a picture of a 22B.

Onboy you nugget, you stole my idea! And then I decided against Subie blue and went for the '91 RX-7's blue chip instead o.o

Huh?? How bad is it? And was that the reference…??? I'm confused…

Bad girl! No double posts! And  S.Vettel did a burnout inside you :sly:

Some godawful repetitive autotuned gangsta rap etc song...don't even search it x3
 I don't even listen to English songs much :P

Anyway, Roj, need some help here. I can't quite remember what negative front toe does on a FR car. I'm try to tune a car while you're off (don't laugh), so I'm going to need a 'dummies guide to tuning' from you. :D

Thanks for the review. AYC does a lot of things behind the scenes. Not as much as an R35, but it's still more than say, a new Impreza.

I figured no one would use 6th apart from long straights anyway and as you said, it doesn't seem to affect it negatively anyway.

Reduces understeer/makes steering sharper. Most, if not all my cars run negative front toe as you can see.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

So cheap, man :P and did you do the new seasonal? It earns you 5 mill for 1:20.000. I did a 1:18.xxx :D

Nope. I guess I should do it just for the 5 mil.

Edit: 1:11.2 after a couple of laps. Too easy, even for someone who can't drive the X2010.

I couldn't get it past the first corner, and gave up with it's godawful gear ratios too

Turn the TV down, don't be afraid to let the car smack the redline, be as smooth as you can, try to just keep it on the track.

Easier said than done, dear Onboy...so many words I am not allowed to type that would describe my most calm attempts at driving this waste of pixels :dopey:
