RKM Motorsport - Tuned Tuners - May '13

OOOOH, you must be that RJ person...

I had dropped the o in Roj because I thunked I saw someone refer to him as RJ. In reality, they were referring to Rotory Junky.

I was messing with Roj's Prius TC setup. No offense to him or the tune. But, I think I found a candidate for one of my Matte Brown paint chips! It's already Matte Pink so my daughter can enjoy it. Come December, it might become the Prius Turd Car!

Why couldn't PD stuff the Lexus LFA V10 in that thing!

I like Roj's Evo X TC tune, the Emperor thingy. It's quick, but it doesn't feel "fast" for 500hp

It happens. No worries.

Aw, I like my Prius with the CVT transmission. Just adds to the troll-ness.

None of the Evo's feel fast for either power really. I think it's just because they run out of steam too quick.

No…they just drone too much, and have far, far too much grip. I mean, my BCC Evo, it has a mere 387hp, but I bet you it has enough grip to handle 500.

This is my Snaaaaaaaaake :D

I've been messing with a tune for my Evora for the 4 hours of Nürburgring all afternoon, and after finally nailing (with a rather bonkers setup, but it's the first time I venture into adjust things myself), I decided to... not do it.
At least not yet. Instead, I decided I should give myself a treat and go play around with some really nice sports cars, after a quick nap.

I decided to head out to the Supercar Festival again, which where I can get some bang for the 550 bucks... or well, PP.
So it was just a decision of what to take. Having a quick glance over the garage, the decision was made to take an old favourite of mine, in new clothes.

Hence a review of the...
NSXEvoR.jpg

I've had the Evolution R version (alongside every other version you've made) sitting in my garage for a long time. I've also used it a few times, but I must be honest and say, I can't remember when nor how it felt.
After quickly updating settings to specII levels, I was off to Trial Mountain, which is definately the most fun track in Supercar Festival. Car was tuned to the exact RKM specs, although it had 555PP and a bit more HP for some reason.

Anyways, I on to the actual review.
The short version: The combination of the Evolution R, myself and Trial Mountain is not a good cocktail.
The slightly longer version: I don't know if it's me, the track or the car, but I just can't get it to turn in, nor brake properly. It'll understeer at low speed, it'll understeer at medium speed and it'll understeer at high speed too. And if you you try to brake and make it turn in, it'll understeer a bit more. And it's downright impossible to exit corners fast.
It doesn't feel like it's lacking grip, it just feels lazy. Like when you wake up a teenager and they go "But I don't want to go to school".
It feels a bit like my M3 CSL (based on RJ's unofficial pre-specII tune), but I can cure understeeer with violence on that. Yank the wheel far enough, and it will turn, though that gets rather painful after 4 hours in the green hell.
But this turned out to be different. When pushed far enough, it would lose grip and spin. Especially with the nasty corners on Trial Mountain, where you certainly can't be sure you have all four wheels on the ground at any given time, or some of the more nasty off-camber corners.

Add to that, that I did manage to make it spin in first gear! Being annoyed with the understeer, I shifted to first on the tight right hander after the first tunnel and tried to push it through. It did not like that. It did not like that at all. It tried to kill me for it.

So now I blame you for my hand hurting. I got so angry about being unable to take corners without either understeering into a rock or trying so hard to avoid it I ended up oversteering into the opposite rock, that I fortunately decided not to trash my wheel, but just hit the table.

So then, based on my trust on RKM and my vanity, I decided the track was the problem! This car was clearly built for actual GP circuits.

Thus, it is time for a trip to Belgium (does that still exist?). Even if it meant offline practice.
This car definately has its moments on Spa. It's formidable through Eau Rouge, and will tackle Les Combes very well too if you're early on the brakes.
But sadly, the fun stops there
For the rest of the track, it's another understeer fest, even accelerating out of Campus, which just got me angry again.

So I'd best stop my review here. I was planning on taking the Evolution R to Nürburgring GP/F, but I think that would've cost me a new wheel.
I'm sorry I couldn't give a positive review, you definately deserve many positive reviews, and I'll do my best to supply some, seeing as I've used your tunes for all of GT5 (and I think late in GT4 too), where I could. Normally I prefer 450-500PP, so not all tunes work. Sometimes though, it can be cured by removing some power mods and just sticking to the weight reduction, suspension and LSD.
I do owe you some reviews. One of my all time favourites is Juliet. I've used her a lot, and I've never ever driven any car which is that fast through the corners. It took me 6 months to get everything to click with an Elise, but once I increased FFB on my wheel and re-tried the Juliet tune, I was sold. And I still am. That's just the most fantastic car ever.
I should give her another go at Nürburgring 4h at 480PP with SS. That should be a blast!

Oh by the way, I'd love to find a track where the Sidewinder NSX and Locust are at home. I've tried a few different ones, but they were all too bumpy for the stiff touge cars. Any ideas?

I said about 10 minutes ago I owed you a good review.

Well, here you go.
NSXR3rdAnni.jpg

After getting a beer in the fridge to cool down after my misery with the NSX Evolution R, I decided I would have my NSX fun spoiled. Not tonight!

So I went and dug out my NSX 3rd Anniversay (told you I had them all), because I could not, naye, I would not, believe that the NSX wasn't the most awesome car of all time.

So with completely stock RKM settings and 539PP, I returned to my Festival of Supercarness on Trial Mountain.
Let's just be frank: After the first corner, I'd forgotten everything about the Evolution R. I was having a blast. Just one corner.

Dear me, this 3rd Anniversay is just a blast. It feels just like a slightly heavier, slightly faster Juliet in many respects. It corners so fast, stops so readily and just blasts through everything. It's so nimble, but you can still feel it's got a lot of power sitting a couple of feet behind you.

This car is the epitome of 500-550PP cars. I just don't believe you can get aynthing this good. It can carry tremendous speed through the corners and readily accelerate out of them, and it's stable at any speed, absorbs any bumps and it doesn't care which way a corner's turning - it'll eat it alive.

And you can keep pushing it so far! It sort of feels like "Now it's going to oversteer. Wait! Now... no? Ok then, now?", but it doesn't. It keeps firmly planted. But it feels you're right there on the edge. It's like a rollercoaster in an amusement park. You think you're going to slam into the ground or fall out of your seat, but don't worry, it's perfectly safe.
Yes, it will rarely lash out, but you can catch it so easily because it's so well balanced.

You say the Evolution R is more serious. I believe you. Because the 3rd Anniversary is the polar opposite, and it's a helluva lot of fun.
But you also say the the Evolution R is faster. I'll have to call you out on that, I don't agree. It's probably just me who can't figure out how to drive serious cars, but this car is a lot faster.

On Trial Mountain in the Supercar Festival, I could only manage 1:34 in the Evolution R, while I happily dropped to 1:32 in the 3rd Anniversary - and I was too busy laughing to try hard!

As a testament to just how fun it was, I spent 7m55s with a huge smile on my face while doing the race - and then another 7m55s with a huge smile on my face watching the replay. I could actually see just how much fun I'd just had in that thing.

Oh, and it easily won, which makes it the lowest PP car to do that for me in this race, save for that intolerably good (and boring) GT-R.

Thank you so much for one of the most fantastic cars I've ever driven. Now to try and get it to 490PP and see if it'll be as good on the 4 hours of Nürburgring...

Anyways, I on to the actual review.

I'm not sure what's actually happened here. Whether I've made a major typo on the settings or something on your end, but this really doesn't sound like my NSX EvoR at all. :ill:

It is a bit more understeery but not by this much. Perhaps it's just me being used to the car though. I will have to check it again.
Oh by the way, I'd love to find a track where the Sidewinder NSX and Locust are at home. I've tried a few different ones, but they were all too bumpy for the stiff touge cars. Any ideas?
They were tuned on a custom track called Songai Shinro I think the name was. It's what the LotS guys use for their touge races. So basically touge tracks made on the course creator.
Holy crap, this thing takes corners at ridiculous speeds. Even faster than the M3 CSL.
Down-tuned to 500PP, I was so surprised I just started laughing.

/review.
Thank you!

There's a catch to that second part. It's faster on flatter circuits only. On Trial Mountain, my 3rd Anniversary will actually kick the EvoR's butt until you put a perfect lap in with the EvoR, which will only be about half a second faster.

Thanks for reviewing the NSX's though! Glad at least one of them gave you some smiles.👍

As I said, it might just be me. I'm not good with understeery cars. I use a DFGT, and I know you use a DS3 to tune, so it may play a part too.

As I also said, I suspected the Evolution R would be fast on the GP circuits, but I couldn't make it behave there either. I suspect it would be right at home on Monza though.

On a sidenote, I just tried a detuned 3rd Anniversary (501PP, basically removing all bolt-on power mods) on the Nürburgring Type-V, as I'm still trying to find the next project to do the 4H race with, and it was really, really good there too.
It's in fact by far the fastest 500PP car I've tested there, so I think I might give that a go tomorrow. The only problem is, you have so much fun and so much confidence in it, that sometimes you crash, because you think "Ahahahaha! A corner? I shall do that at 200km/h, for I am invincible". And then reality catches up as you start making out with a whole section of armco.

Ah, I see you've felt the fire to smack some sense into idiots. 👍 Keep that fire, that feeling. You'll need it soon.

Been here long enough to learn to (try to) control it. Or just be more tactful when possible. Been hitting the "report" button more often when the urge to spark up the flame thrower starts boiling to the surface ;)

This still happens to me. :D

"I CAN CORNER AT WHATEVER SPEED I DESIRE!" Derp. :dunce::dopey:

I did that with the Lancer VI you tuned for me.

"BLASPHEMY, THIS TURN I SHALL TAKE IT AT 250KM/H !"

Then it crashed. Hard. And I flipped.
Then in the same day I deleted my PS3 User and lost my beatiful 95% save of GT5. And lost my Lancer VI fully tuned which meant for me what the NSX means for Roj. :(

yiasdas... No, just no...

edit: That was an Onboy post, too. YO ONBOY! You see this?

Nope, he takes post from the first page, I didn't come in till the 50th page. He's still a sad spammer though.

On topic…ish, Dragonthing, I've found the MR2 you've tuned :D
