I've been messing with a tune for my Evora for the 4 hours of Nürburgring all afternoon, and after finally nailing (with a rather bonkers setup, but it's the first time I venture into adjust things myself), I decided to... not do it.
At least not yet. Instead, I decided I should give myself a treat and go play around with some really nice sports cars, after a quick nap.
I decided to head out to the Supercar Festival again, which where I can get some bang for the 550 bucks... or well, PP.
So it was just a decision of what to take. Having a quick glance over the garage, the decision was made to take an old favourite of mine, in new clothes.
Hence a review of the...
I've had the Evolution R version (alongside every other version you've made) sitting in my garage for a long time. I've also used it a few times, but I must be honest and say, I can't remember when nor how it felt.
After quickly updating settings to specII levels, I was off to Trial Mountain, which is definately the most fun track in Supercar Festival. Car was tuned to the exact RKM specs, although it had 555PP and a bit more HP for some reason.
Anyways, I on to the actual review.
The short version: The combination of the Evolution R, myself and Trial Mountain is not a good cocktail.
The slightly longer version: I don't know if it's me, the track or the car, but I just can't get it to turn in, nor brake properly. It'll understeer at low speed, it'll understeer at medium speed and it'll understeer at high speed too. And if you you try to brake and make it turn in, it'll understeer a bit more. And it's downright impossible to exit corners fast.
It doesn't feel like it's lacking grip, it just feels lazy. Like when you wake up a teenager and they go "But I don't want to go to school".
It feels a bit like my M3 CSL (based on RJ's unofficial pre-specII tune), but I can cure understeeer with violence on that. Yank the wheel far enough, and it will turn, though that gets rather painful after 4 hours in the green hell.
But this turned out to be different. When pushed far enough, it would lose grip and spin. Especially with the nasty corners on Trial Mountain, where you certainly can't be sure you have all four wheels on the ground at any given time, or some of the more nasty off-camber corners.
Add to that, that I did manage to make it spin in first gear! Being annoyed with the understeer, I shifted to first on the tight right hander after the first tunnel and tried to push it through. It did not like that. It did not like that at all. It tried to kill me for it.
So now I blame you for my hand hurting. I got so angry about being unable to take corners without either understeering into a rock or trying so hard to avoid it I ended up oversteering into the opposite rock, that I fortunately decided not to trash my wheel, but just hit the table.
So then, based on my trust on RKM and my vanity, I decided the track was the problem! This car was clearly built for actual GP circuits.
Thus, it is time for a trip to Belgium (does that still exist?). Even if it meant offline practice.
This car definately has its moments on Spa. It's formidable through Eau Rouge, and will tackle Les Combes very well too if you're early on the brakes.
But sadly, the fun stops there
For the rest of the track, it's another understeer fest, even accelerating out of Campus, which just got me angry again.
So I'd best stop my review here. I was planning on taking the Evolution R to Nürburgring GP/F, but I think that would've cost me a new wheel.
I'm sorry I couldn't give a positive review, you definately deserve many positive reviews, and I'll do my best to supply some, seeing as I've used your tunes for all of GT5 (and I think late in GT4 too), where I could. Normally I prefer 450-500PP, so not all tunes work. Sometimes though, it can be cured by removing some power mods and just sticking to the weight reduction, suspension and LSD.
I do owe you some reviews. One of my all time favourites is Juliet. I've used her a lot, and I've never ever driven any car which is that fast through the corners. It took me 6 months to get everything to click with an Elise, but once I increased FFB on my wheel and re-tried the Juliet tune, I was sold. And I still am. That's just the most fantastic car ever.
I should give her another go at Nürburgring 4h at 480PP with SS. That should be a blast!
Oh by the way, I'd love to find a track where the Sidewinder NSX and Locust are at home. I've tried a few different ones, but they were all too bumpy for the stiff touge cars. Any ideas?
