RKM Motorsport - Tuned Tuners - May '13

Roj, which of these cars do you think has the closest chance in taking the M3 CSL down or even just getting near it?

Subaru Impreza 22B
TVR T350C
Shelby Series One Supercharged
Mercedes SLK 230

Not the most elaborate or obvious choices, I know, but hey, there's a car from each country that is important to the automotive world…Japan, Britain, America (ok, maybe not this one…opinions will differ) and Germany :D

CSL has masses of grip, none of those do. Not a fair fight at the same supposed performance levels.

NSX-R, RX-7 Spirit R or Bathurst R, and an M5 will all trouble the CSL but there isn't too much else. Oh, Evora and '10 SS Camaro.

@ your Lolvo review: Shift at about 6200rpm, feel insane pull. ;)

Well I never said it had to handle the same way, did I? Look at the RE RX-7, it's easily the loosest, most angry, tire eating monster you guys have made, but it just happens to be able to keep up with the NSX-R. Still, thanks for the advice, and I'll be trying the CSL out when PSN is back (SONY FIX IT NOW!!!! NOW! NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW!!!!!!!!! NOW BEFORE I BUTCHER ALL YOUR STAFF TO BITS!!!!!!!)

PSN is still down for Asia..... wow!
That must be a :ouch: or a :grumpy: or maybe even a

It's all of those, and if they don't get it fixed by tomorrow, I'm bringing a machete with me the next time I visit Tokyo! You have been warned, Sony. Fix it, or I'll have your head… :mischievous:

You might want to cool it before you get infracted. Just sayin'. I'm not sure what the deal is in HK, but in Japan, they've told Sony not to turn PSN back on in their region until Sony can prove the security has been beefed up sufficiently. Not sure how many times that has to be repeated until people realise Sony isn't being racist or denying certain people PSN. :ouch:

Right…*breath in* *breath out* calm down……ok, done with that, now, when you said the TVR had the best chance in taking the M3 down, did you mean on racing softs or sports softs?

Edit: Another option could be to tune the Nismo 350Z Z-tune, it's still lying around in my garage, haven't driven it since the RKM vs Nismo shootout…

Hey do you think your M3 CSL tune works on the M3 Coupe '07/Chrome Line? I like to find out how much different the chrome line is from the "standard" M3 Coupe... and fully tuned the CSL is almost the same car apart from 190kg less weight.

RJ, quick question, and I don't mean this offensively, but why do you so rarely answer to reviews? I know you answered to my very first one, and two of the three most recent ones, but you very rarely answer to a review on one of your cars. Is it because your not bothered about it, is the review not good enough, or does that just mean you haven't got anything to say about it?

Well, a simple thanks wouldn't hurt, would it? After all, people have taken their own time out to write it, so just thanking them for it would seem like the polite thing to do, right? Whatever you need to say about it, if there's anything to say at all, can come afterward. It just makes those who write the review (sometimes me as well, but I've done quite a few now so I'm used to it) feel better that what they wrote has some value and is being appreciated. Still, RJ, I'm no one to judge, cuz I don't know what you think.

So... If I make you a sandwich, and you thank me by telling me how good the sandwich is... I should thank you, for thanking me?

Well, I guess so…but it's just personal opinions anyways. And Adrenaline, I don't want this to turn into a pointless, bickering, thread spamming fight like the one that broke out in Noobster thread…I'm just curious as to why he doesn't do so as quite a few people take it the wrong way and think they are being ignored. Anyways…let's just end it here.

Racing of course. No car on sports softs will take the M3 on racing softs down, not even Deathscythe.

RJ has a 350Z tune so it could be adapted.

It'll work but it wont work as well as a tune built specifically for the '07.

You have to consider what RJ might be doing when he's not in front of a PC. He clearly doesnt have the time to answer reviews like I do, but that's not to say he doesn't read them.

Oh that just makes me want to drive the M3 all the more!!! And yes, I know that RJ's 350Z tune can be adapted, but
1) It's a bit of a rolly mess to drive
2)I'm not sure it could handle the 400hp it was tuned with, let alone the 500+hp the Nismo Z now has…

Roj, I just built your 4 door type R.
What a pleasant little beastie!
I used the blue one and the wing like the version in your fan fic. Lol
Your suspension settings for this civic also worked quite well for my 86 celica. Needs tweaking but got me on the right path.
When I get the Celica finished i'll put up the full tune as my first. (giving you credit for the base suspension tune of course.)

Stop telling it what to do and let it tell YOU what to do.

Oh it can most definitely handle what it was tuned with plus a bit. It just... Doesn't let you know that.

Just driving around the Jaaaaag XKR. It's a pretty insane car, and the transmission tuning helps a lot with the wheel spin. And it's fast.

But my XKR has almost 700hp and much more than 575PP with the mods listed. Weird.

Stop telling it what to do and let it tell YOU what to do.

Well, I guess that's why I can't drive it the damn thing, since listening to people isn't something I'm good at…

RJ, what 'driving tips' would you recommend for the Atenza 23rs? Like how high to rev, how to get the most out of the corners etc.
Or do I just drive it like I stole it and melt the tires?

This is a little thing to anyone who wants to have a car more powerful then a tune describes. This was tested on the F430 Stradista. When I try to get my cars ready for tuning, I notice that I sometimes overpower and make the car's tune worthless. Well, not anymore! I have used my math skills and I have found a way to make the transmission the same, or even more powerful.

Correct tune:
Transmission
Set Final 1, then Max Speed, then Final 2 + individual ratios.
1st:-- 4.139
2nd:-- 3.037
3rd:-- 2.367
4th:-- 1.931
5th:-- 1.603
6th:-- 1.390
Final: 4.300/2.500
Max Speed: 124 MPH
Top Speed overall: 222.

But, What I did was take the numbers down so I know how far off the gears were. I got these numbers.
1: 1.395
2: 0.844 - 0.002
3: 0.533 - 0.026
4: 0.350 - 0.046
5: 0.230 - 0.017
6: 0.362 - 0.212

In that, the first number is the difference off from top and bottom. The second number is how far away it is from the bottom. You will see what I mean after I put the fully powered one out.

Overpowered tune:
Transmission
Set Final 1, then Max Speed, then Final 2 + individual ratios.
1st:-- 4.253
2nd:-- 3.117
3rd:-- 2.426
4th:-- 1.976
5th:-- 1.641
6th:-- 1.422
Final: 4.300/2.500
Max Speed: 124 MPH
Top Speed overall: 222.

How is this possible? I will explain that now!
The overpowered tune is alot more powerful and stronger then the RKM tune, but it still has the same Top Speed. It is simple of how to do this. 1st gear's area is 4.225-5.648. The original difference was 1.395. so 5.648-1.395 and you get 4.253, same as the over powered settings. Another is 6th gear. the distance is 1.202-1.572. In this, the equation goes like this; 1.572 - (0.362 - 0.212) = 1.422. These gears are the same place and structure as the original tune. Another step you can take with this is the more advanced tune, or the "RKM Overpowered." All you do is take how far off it is from the bottom and bring it out that far. Here is what I got from that.

RKM Overpowered:
Transmission
Set Final 1, then Max Speed, then Final 2 + individual ratios.
1st:-- 4.225
2nd:-- 3.100
3rd:-- 2.415
4th:-- 1.971
5th:-- 1.636
6th:-- 1.414
Final: 4.300/2.500
Max Speed: 124 MPH
Top Speed overall: 224.

With the correct sight adjustment for the ratios and not the picture, it would look like this. All you do it take the equation from before like in gear 6 and it would look like this after swapping the top gear for the bottom of the gear; 1.202 - (0.362 - 0.212) = x+0.362. You will need algebra to solve this. All you do is subtract 0.362 from both sides. It will look like this.

1.202 - (0.362 - 0.212) = x+0.362
-0.362 -0.362

In the end, you get this;

1.202 - (-0.212) = X. With the 0.362 gone, it becomes this; 1.202 + 0.212 = X. With that, you can determine how many spaces you need to move. For this, you need to move 1.414, which is the same number as the 6th gear in the RKM Overpowered. With this, people won't need to fear if they overpower their cars for more power. So, lets go over it one more time to put it all together at the bottom to make it easier for people.

I hope this will help those who want to keep the same tune and not get frustrated over not wanting to have their car not have enough power.
This took me 4 hours to go over and I made sure all of my equation were correct. To everyone who this helps. Your Welcome. There is no need to thank me for anything since I normally was going to make this for myself.

Ouch…I just got back from a science and maths exam at school and now there's this?! How you can work this out at all is beyond me…and 'Equation to get RKM Overpowered'? Are you preparing some dastardly plan to overthrow Roj and RJ from the 'throne of GT5 tuning'? :D

Nawwww. I want to actually help them because if I make a racing team, we will gladly sponsor them for free and use only their tunes to race. You should test it out yourself, follow the equations I gave and you should be able to get every transmission number correct.

Ohh…a RKM sponsored race car, is it going to be some kind of NSX/RX-7 DNA mix? And I think I'm right in saying most of us here will only every use RKM's tunes for racing and having fun (Not me, I jump between two tune shops, soon to expand to 4…hope that goes well…). Still, I'll try to decipher all the algebra and give the F430 a go, with both the gear settings :D

I didn't test them, but it is to convert the gear setting over for more power to hopefully get more powerful cars to beat kids (:<

Also, I am now working on a SP1 Maybeline Crossover.

So, let me get this straight, all I need to do is follow the 'RKM overpowered' (Sounds like some super weapon from a comic :dopey:, though something RKM overboost would work better in that case) gear chart and I should be able to go a little bit faster than RJ's setup?

Interesting, but sounds a bit confusing. Will try that on my girl's 380RS once I have got everything in order.

Ok, one more thing…in case I'm mistaken, the higher the gear ratio, the more acceleration you'd get, right? If that's the case, that's brilliant. RJ, Roj, you've got yourself a new tuner, he specialises in tuning gearboxes, making bonkers long maths sums and is called Linkueigman :D
