Car Assignment List:

Drivers will be assigned cars according to this list,
based upon their finishing positions in the previous race.
roadclassicscarassign003.jpg

If a racer did not participate in the preceding race,
car assignment will be determined by their finishing position in the last race they did finish.
If a new racer joins partway through an event or the series,
they will be assigned to drive the Mitsubishi Lancer 1600 GSR '74 to start off.
And be allowed whatever position is given them in Reverse Grid Order.
Any participant who finds at the time of racing they are missing their assigned vehicle or it does not meet the regulations,
will be given a 1 event waiver to participate using the next car up in the list than their assignment, based on the 10 driver list (with all 10 cars).
(If their assignment is the #1 car on the list, the waiver is nullified.)

Rules:
Drivers will follow the GTP OLR Rules
Please familiarize yourself with these rules prior to the event.
More info on rules & guidelines are specified below to clarify expected track etiquette.
  • You are expected to race clean & fair, and to behave like sporting gentlemen at all times.
  • Dirty driving is absolutely forbidden.
  • Please freely ask questions if you are unsure about any of the rules & guidelines.
  • What is "clean" or "dirty" driving? : "Driving in an aggressive manner where your intention is to collide or distract the opposition is considered "dirty" driving. Driving in a manner where you have respect for other drivers on the course and avoiding body contact wherever possible is considered "clean" driving." - MSTER232.
  • Post-race penalties may be issued for rule violations, in order to preserve clean racing and fairness - you have been advised.
  • If you cause a contact, you must make contact concessions. ie: no bump-passing! This is NOT a hit-to-pass derby. Bumping another car off their line to take their position is considered DIRTY.
  • Failure to make contact concessions will result in a post-race penalty concession. (ie: you will be placed below that racer in the results - or be demoted in finish position otherwise accordingly)
  • "But it wasn't on purpose." is not a valid excuse for failing to make contact conessions. If your mistake, or your car's movement, caused the collision, you must make the contact concession, or you will receive a post-race concession penalty.
  • "I didn't know it was my fault." is not a method to avoid penalty. The only exceptions to contact concession rule is if the car you hit was already spun out, improperly re-entering the track, or if you hit the ahead car because you were hit from behind. If you are not certain about the fault and choose to not make concession, and it is determined you were at fault, a post-race concession penalty will be imposed.
  • Caution must be exercised when re-entering the track after an off-road excursion caused by any reason.
  • Careless driving, recklessness, & aggressive risky maneuvers may result in post-race penalties, and will certainly result in your fellow racers being ill tempered. Everyone makes errors from time to time -- but repeated excessive aggressive or sloppy driving that is frequent or persistent is entirely avoidable by even the least skilled of drivers. It takes no special skill to slow down & get your car back under control. (If you are making contact often when you're near other cars on the track, or bumping often in the corners, this is a good indication that your driving may be considered reckless, & you'd best reign it in.)
  • Retaliation, "payback", & monkey-see-monkey-do rule flouting will not be tolerated.
  • The in-game penalty system is switched to off to prevent ghosting, with the understanding that GTPlanet racers do not need the in-game penalty system to follow posted track rules.
  • Shorting the track is strictly prohibited, must have 2 wheels on the tarmac (or rumble curbing) - this includes "going wide", off-roading in the grass or dirt, or using tarmac outside the parameters of the track, is forbidden.
  • Excessive horn beeping is forbidden. Horns should be used in the manner they are intended only - for civil communication purposes. Using the horn to distract another driver, or to annoy them to give up position is considered "dirty" and absolutely prohibited.
  • Cornering Rights must be respected. Consult the GTP OLR Rules for specifics on cornering rights. For example, you are expected to hold your line through a turn, and allow space for another car who had overlap before the turn in point. If you do not have overlap on an ahead car before the turn in point, you do not have the right to force into their line.
  • ONE blocking maneuver per straight is the maximum allowed. NO weaving to block on straights.
  • Prohibited Maneuvers include (but are not limited to): riding another car through a turn, using another car as a brake, shoving another car off track, dive bombing the inside of corners, nose clipping by diving abruptly in front of another car, rear clipping - with or without pit maneuver, cramming into a space that does not exist to force a pass, punting, inappropriate blocking, wild weaving, brake-checking, slamming, ramming, parking inside the track boundaries or near traffic during a race, driving backwards.
  • Turn #1 Incidents: Harsher post-race penalties are imposed for violations occurring on Turn #1 of any race. Patience should be the top priority at Turn #1 of any race. In some cases, special Turn #1 race procedures will be implemented. Always review the "Race Procedures" section of an event description. (It should be noted and accepted as fact that "Turn 1 Drama" is a particular pet peeve of the race director, and Turn #1 of every race will be scrutinized in replays.)
  • All rules & general track etiquette, is to be exercised during any Qualifying Period. "Informal Qualifying" means there will be no roll call, and no one should expect to have the track to themselves while others wait. However, drivers are expected to spread out. There should be no "pressuring" during qualifying as this is NOT racing. Leave a gap during your out-lap from the car ahead of you, so that you do not disrupt the ahead car's timed laps, and will not be accused of taking advantage of someone's slipstream draft. Courtesy should be exercised when you finish your timed laps, to allow others to finish theirs. Park well away from the racing line, preferably in a spot that is significantly apart from the racetrack boundaries.
  • Bump drafting is widely accepted on ovals, and is sometimes used on straights. However, drivers should exercise caution and thoughtful judgement before employing this in technique in regular race tracks. Bear in mind that not all of your fellow racers may be of the same mind when bump drafting is appropriate, and some might find it distracting or unwelcome. It should never be done near a brake point. When in doubt, do without!
  • Text chat during races is to be restrained so as not to distract drivers still racing.
  • In case of any incident involving a crash or rule violation, please review the replay before drawing conclusions. Note the time and location of the incident. Try dialogue with the other driver first with Private Messaging. You may report the incident via Private Messaging, with details, in a timely manner (ie: soon after the race), if warranted, so an appointed steward &/or the race director may review the incident.
  • Any overtly dirty driving should be reported immediately after the race. You should also always report any driving you see that appears to be deliberate rule violations or persistently disruptive, so the driver may be reminded & warned of the rules & post-race penalties, and for the preservation of enjoyment for all participants.
Race Director: watermelonpunch / wat3rm370n
Race Steward: YOU!
All racers are expected to be stewards - of good racing & rule adherence!
Save replays in case you are called upon!

Race will be hosted in the VCRC Lounge,
add PSN: VCRC

Note: This account is just the club lounge account. It will rarely be signed on.
Get the FR in a.s.a.p. to assure acceptance in advance of racing.
In order to check the league lounge, you must click on the coffee cup,
and wait for the room content list to present.
No yellow people icon will show, even when the room is full.

Also please note that all club communication should be done through GTPlanet,
and not directed toward the PSN acct, as nobody checks messages there often, if at all.

I'm down for tuesday. I really appreciate most of the events being on tuesday. Thank you for helping me out with that. Your kindness does not go overlooked.

I should definitely be able to make the Saturday series. It looks like loads of fun, I've been waiting to be able to participate in an event like this. :)

Okay car acquisition gifting has begun... if anyone needs cars, find out, do an inventory...
These are the 10 cars:

Autobianchi A112 Abarth '79
Honda Civic 1500 3door CX '79
Marcos Mini Marcos GT '70
Nissan Skyline 2000GT-B (S54A) '67
Mitsubishi Lancer 1600 GSR '74
Honda 1300 Coupe 9 S '70
Volkswagen Golf I GTI '76
Toyota Celica 1600GT (TA22) '70
Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GTA 1600 '65 <-- in OCD right now!
Mazda MX-5 Miata (NA) '89 <-- may substitute (only) with Mazda MX-5 (NA) '89

The gifting list is here in the VCRC club forum:
https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/group.php?do=discuss&group=&discussionid=4689

If you've got spares of any of the cars you're willing to gift to those who want to participate, let me know that too.

Hmm, that Miata seems a bit out of place doesn't it. But I'm sure you chose it for a reason, should be fun. :)

For a few reasons... It is a long-time popular road car, it's pre-1990, and it fits in the graduated scheme of speed. And, I thought it was fitting to have the fastest car be an actual sports car. And the slowest car to be the least sporty overall. (Although I'm sure lots of people have their own opinions about all the cars in all sorts of ways.)
Append: I did want to get a pretty wide mix of road cars included. To try & appeal to a broad participant interest.

Interestingly, I'm pretty sure the Mazda Eunos Roadster (NA Special Package) is the same car as the other two, except it's premium. That's the one I'd prefer to have, as it's the properly named Japanese version of the car, not that it really matters.

I would just find it strange if there wasn't a Eunos version of that MX5 as there is with all the others, so I think that must be it. It comes in the same colors and has the same specs and everything, and I think it was called the Eunos 1.6 '89 in the Japanese version of GT4, and they updated it for GT5.

Maybe. There's so many different names for the Miatas and they change from game to game, I have no idea what's what anymore. I hope they simplify things more for GT6.

Would like to enter, have a look at what cars I have and let you know:dopey:

Tuesday night best for me:tup:

Is there any difference between the S54A Skyline 2000GT-B and the S54B as I believe I might've received the latter.

EDIT: I can confirm I received the S54B rather than the S54A that's on the list.

In Japan the car is just called MX-5 I thought...
In Europe it's sold as the Eunos.
In the U.S. & Canada it's sold as the Miata.
I'm partial to Miata... because my husband drives one! ;)

I knew this question was going to come up about "Why not the premium?"
But actually with all standards... and so many different models, I figured it was best to stick with all standards. (Some say that mixing standards & premiums brings more connection/lag issues in races.)
I have plenty of spares of the standard MX-5, so acquisition should not be a problem.

And second, when we tested all 3 '89 models last year, a couple people reported times that made the premium model different in speed from the others.

Append: The specs are different:

MX-5 (NA) '89
123 HP / 940 kg / 144 Nm
MX-5 Miata (NA) '89
123 HP / 940 kg / 144 Nm
Eunos Roadster (NA Special Package) '89
120 HP / 940 kg / 140 Nm

The discussions about testing for cars in the line-up are here:
https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/group.php?do=discuss&group=&discussionid=4674
Would give people a better idea what's been going on to choose this line up of cars.
Testing for ordering the car assignment list is still ongoing, so I'm still looking for people to do test times on a track.

Is there any difference between the S54A Skyline 2000GT-B and the S54B as I believe I might've received the latter.

EDIT: I can confirm I received the S54B rather than the S54A that's on the list.

That was a typo. There's only one Skyline from '67 in the game.
So if you have a 1967 Skyline, that's the right one.
To explain... I'd copy/pasted from a list of snowgt's so I'm blaming him for the typo!

I've corrected it in the OP.

Other way around - In Japan it's the Eunos and in Europe it's the MX-5.

I'm fine with the standard versions. But be careful, because some versions of the Miata are essentially made up, and don't exist as they are written in the game. For example, the MX-5 J-Limited II (NA, J) '93 doesn't make any sense, because that special package was not sold in Europe and would never been called an MX-5. It's the same as the Eunos version in the game, just with a nonsense name, so I would try to avoid it (of course with my luck, the game gave me one as a random pick from a prize car ticket, so I'm stuck with it ).

Thanks to Famine for pointing all this out to me.

Not entirely correct. It's possible to have both names in your garage, although they are literally the same car. When the game was released it was called the S54A, but in one of the recent OCD updates, the same car was sold as the S54B, which is the correct name for it. It was literally the exact same car because if you had the A version in your garage, the OCD would indicate that you had the already had the B version, even if you didn't.

In reality, the S54A had less horsepower than the S54B, and doesn't match the one in the game, so it's not really the correct name for it. Unless they fixed it all in an update, it may still be possible to have one of each version in your garage, so if both cars show up on race day, don't be too surprised. Maybe they did fix it though, as the only one in my garage is the B version.

Here's what happened when the change was first noticed.

RE: Skyline 67.
Interesting. I wasn't playing at the time that OCD came out, so I don't know.
Honestly, I don't know whether mine's A or B.
I never looked, because I know there's only one 1967 Skyline in the game, and that's all I've paid attention to.

Unless someone can prove to me that they are different in specs, handling, or speed... my stand is that it's a case that someone made a typo somewhere, at some point, and there's only one 1967 Skyline in gt5 that you could use, and whether it says B or A, it's the same car. Because there's only one '67 in the game, total.

RE: reality in the particulars of the car models in gt5

I'm not going to be able to please everyone with specifics.
(After organizing the Vintage Sports Mixer, there's NO DOUBT about that.)

In short, if you put 3 cars on a list, or you put 10, and then present it to a dozen players... there's always going to be something someone's going to take issue with.

This time, I just picked 20+year old well-known models of road cars, that predominantly are VERY CLOSE IN SPEED, no huge outliers in handling, competitive with each other, for a graduated list.

Those were my only real parameters here.

At this point, after having spent many hours now to organize this series... including picking out cars, testing the cars on tracks against each other, having other people test the cars, correlating data, doing the math, organizing the schedule, picking tracks, making art for the OP, and then promoting the series etc. etc.
You can see what's been going on over the past week in the VCRC forum:
https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/group.php?do=discuss&group=&discussionid=4674
And mind you there were originally 15 cars when I presented it a week ago. And that was pruned down from my original list which was about 30-35 cars which I tested & considered before even presenting a list for others to test. :scared:

Well, let's just say if someone came along and told me that the Alfa GTA 1600 in the game has a huge flaw in relation to reality because the real ones never had that much HP, or that the Honda Civic from 1979 had a different kind of hatch window... And that the Toyota Celica in the game has the wrong drivetrain and a completely wrong weight...

THE SHOW WOULD GO ON.

I know someone awhile back told me the vintage Volvo Estate in the game is unfairly modeled, because in real life it's just not that heavy.
I still did a race event with it. :) 👍
It was fun. Shame that it's so heavy in the game. But not only are complaints about details in GT5 a dime a dozen... I bet if you asked around, 80 out of 100 people who've purchased GT5 wouldn't give 2 craps whether there's a non-real Miata model in the game, and would actually prefer it that the vintage Volvo Estate didn't exist in the game at all.
So I just try to be happy that PD did include a lot of these great old vintage cars that so many of their target market just don't care about at all, and indeed, actively post around the forum saying they really wish they weren't included at all!! :ill: 👎

GT5 is not perfect for sure. But I think it does a good job at representing a lot of the cars many of us love... even if not 100% accurately.

And, on that bombshell  :sly:
I'm going to again solicit people to help test the cars in the line-up on tracks against each other, to help come up with a car assignment graduated speed list that makes the most sense.
All that matters is that the same driver test all the cars on the same track.

👍 👍 👍
(Note: If you don't help test, you have no leg to stand on complaining about the ordering later. )

I can't make any dates unless I get a freak day off. I did get Saturday off once.. In 6 months, bar holidays.

But I'll happily help testing ;).

Btw the people I know love the 240 GLT, me and my Aussie mate allways used to race maxed 240s on SS tyres :D. (I haz a Volvo estate that owns :sly:)

Of course if I could I would have a chat with your supervisor about your maddening schedule.

Happily accept more testers of course! You can see the leaderboard started at the bottom of the OP.
Basically I'm just looking for this: the same driver test drives all 10 cars on the same track. And then I look at the times, and consider them against other times of other drivers on other tracks. And taking the average of that, to order the list. Of course the more drivers test on more different tracks, the list is going to be more likely to reflect a good graduated speed order.

And yeah, like so many cool cars that have their own highlights, the old Volvo Estate I think is very much overlooked.
Too many people just don't even see why the cars I love are included in gt5. :grumpy:

Well in my (Jobs) defence. Sat and Tues are days that no one gets off, due to them being the busiest days of the week :P.

My cars have been prepped for the series and my colours have been chosen. Once again I have applied a rainbow of different colours across my fleet. I will reveal my choices closer to the event.

ha ha John Wells just submitted to me his fleet colours. Though he's yet to acquire one car.

But it's not a competition. (Getting cars painted I mean.)

I'll be posting a Fleet Colour list in the sign-up post soon. 👍

Update:

Fleet colour list started in the sign-up post #2.

Also the event #1 custom tracks are shared:
Blick Auf Das Schloss (Eifel Circuit) (2.15 miles)
shared on PSN wat3rm370n
Manja Bene (Toscana tarmac) (3.24 miles)
shared on PSN jackargent
I will keep the OP updated with what tracks are shared where.

ok so I need the both honda's, the autobianchi, the lancer, the celica, and the mazda. I do have the skyline 2000 Gt-r kpgc110 '73, is that the same as the 2000 gt-b? if it's not then I need the skyline as well. I have the others though.

Oh I will be browsing the used cars dealer as well before this series starts just to see if I can find them there.

I'll put you on the gifting list, and just let me know if you find a car. 👍
And no, it's the Skyline 67. (Either a or b - just make sure it's from 1967)

Ok, thanks for clearing that up for me. So I now need a skyline as well peeps unless i find it. I'll keep you guys updated.
