Road Classics Mixer Series - looking for more drivers! Join now! :)

Welcome!

Which day?

Still waiting on an inventory report from Dano as well.

Also still looking for test data, always welcome. :)
(See the end of the OP for test lap times.)

The laps are now set.

And check the OP to see where the custom tracks in the line-up are currently shared. You can download them to test them out & practice ahead of time. (There's a link with instructions also in the OP on how to do that if you haven't before.)

Here's some testing times on Suzuka and Cape Ring Inside. Honda 1300 and Mitsubishi Lancer are not yet included (have to send them to the other account first).

Suzuka Circuit - Weather (3.61 miles)
02:47.4xx - Mazda MX-5 Miata (NA) '89 - snowgt
02:47.5xx - Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GTA 1600 '65 - snowgt
02:48.7xx - Volkswagen Golf I GTI '76 - snowgt
02:49.5xx - Toyota Celica 1600GT (TA22) '70 - snowgt

02:59.129 - Honda Civic 1500 3door CX '79 - watermelonpunch
03:00.9xx - Autobianchi A112 Abarth '79 - snowgt

Cape Ring Inside (1.54 miles)
01:07.5xx - Mazda MX-5 Miata (NA) '89 - snowgt
01:07.7xx - Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GTA 1600 '65 - snowgt
01:08.7xx - Toyota Celica 1600GT (TA22) '70 - snowgt
01:08.8xx - Volkswagen Golf I GTI '76 - snowgt
01:09.3xx - Nissan Skyline 2000GT-B (S54B) '67 - snowgt
01:11.1xx - Marcos Mini GT '70 - snowgt
01:11.3xx - Honda Civic 1500 3door CX '79 - snowgt
01:11.627 - Honda Civic 1500 3door CX '79 - watermelonpunch
01:14.0xx - Autobianchi A112 Abarth '79 - snowgt

Judging from these times, I would suggest to cut the Autobianchi (which you probably won't like), in order to avoid a repeat of the Spitfire-scenario. In my opinion it's just too slow compared to the second-slowest car (the Civic). The other cars seem to be perfectly selected to do the job. Each car might be able to challenge the next best car, there's no rabbit guaranteed to run away with every win, and the slowest and fastest car (not counting the Autobianchi) are far enough apart that even the best driver will not be able to win a race in the Civic. The problem is, in the Autobianchi you can't even challenge the Civic, not to speak of the midfield.

The Alfa and The Skyline take a little more finesse to get the best out of the car (i.e. are harder to drive fast - oversteer), so that should maybe also taken into account regarding the car assignment, as it might prove difficult for less experienced drivers.

I'll probably take part on Tuesdays, by the way. ;)

Thanks for the test times! 👍

I intend to run tests on all 14 tracks with all the cars, to make sure they are ordered properly & the assignment lists are made as well as they can be, on average, for all types of tracks/drivers.
Welcoming more help in testing on all the tracks!

By the way the average difference between the fastest & slowest cars in the 5 cars Vintage Sports Mixer was 8-15 seconds.
The average difference between the fastest & slowest cars in this is HALF that, over 10 cars. (more like 3-10 seconds).
You can't even begin to compare the 2 car lists at all. They bear no resemblance at all. With this, there's double the cars, and half the difference between the fastest & slowest.
Plus, unlike in the vintage sports mixer - where all the cars had same drivertrain, similar type, and not very different in handling - the 10 cars in this all vary in handling, and are very track dependent.

Also any debates about this issue SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE IN EARLY TESTING.
If you didn't get in on this 2 weeks ago, it's a bit late to be cutting up rough about the car selection.

Also, these cars are MUCH closer than you would get in shuffle.
So word to the wise... if you hate shuffle - this is NOT the series for you. You will NOT like this format one bit. Because yeah, sometimes you're going to wind up in a car that's not as good as your rival's. That's the nature of the format.

NOTE:

There's 9 days left until the first tuesday event, and 12 days left until the first saturday event.
So there's plenty of time to get in a request for any car you're missing.

I'm still waiting on inventory reports from these interested racers:

Dano20
danbojte
snowgt

Here is the car gifting waiting list:
https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/group.php?do=discuss&group=&discussionid=4689

If you're willing to do testing, I will put your missing car acquisitions on priority so you can complete the testing. So let me know.
I'd like to get the car assignment list sorted out a few days ahead of the 1st event. So anything that can get more testing in sooner, the better. 👍

I'm also looking for people who have spare Skyline 67s, Celica 70s, or Civic 79s they are willing to gift to interested racers. Those are the only cars I'm short on spares atm. So if you have any spares of those, please let me know. 👍

Ok I have accepted all friend requests and now have the lancer 1600 GSR, 1300 coupe 9 s, and the mx-5 miata (na). Just need the civic 1500, the autobianchi A112, the nissan 2000 GT-b, and the celica 1600

Thanks to everyone submitting test times. 👍
Very helpful.

I hope to come out with at least a preliminary list in a day or so.

Room for more drivers both days! So tell your friends!

Also looking for people with spare Skyline 67, Celica 70, or Civic 79.

And still waiting on inventory reports from a couple of people.

Please mark me down for the Saturday Series.

I will check my garage for the aforementioned cars and get out the blue paint.

And since I would like to chip in with my 2 cents:D, I will even do some track testing.

The Manja Bene track is very interesting looking. A dinosaur? Two turtles?

Thanks,
GTsail

It doesn't look like I'll be able to make the 11th, but we'll see. Moving out of my dorm that day.

Ha ha... I remarked several times that the map looked like something from the Devonian Period.
https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/group.php?do=discuss&discussionid=2573&pp=10&page=5
In fact, I started to notice a trend with cc570's tracks often looking like some type of creature. :odd: He had the frog (Ribbid Ridge), and one that looked like a bear as well.
It's just too bad he's been retired from gt5, because he made some of the best low power tracks ever.

Anyway, it IS a very interesting track. John Wells & I were testing on it today after the tz2 race.
It's diabolical with some of the turns being quite tricky. But it makes up for it by being extremely wide. Some of the widest toscana track I've ever seen.
So it's a track that definitely promotes gaining positions by attrition... In that it's not unusual for there to be some crashes - but usually they're the single-car kind at least, because there's plenty of room to avoid collisions with other cars.

@ snowgt - thanks for the lap times.

@ dylansan - there will probably be others that won't make it for all 3 events. So not to worry.
But I am curious - is the semester already over for you next week?

I've found that I have all the cars except for the '79 Honda Civic, so I've dusted off my cars and ran some laps at Cape Ring:

Cape Ring Inside (1.54 miles)
01:06.983 - Toyota Celica 1600GT (TA22) '70 - GTsail2 (with SM tires in error)
01:07.856 - Mazda MX-5 Miata (NA) '89 - GTsail2
01:08.365 - Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GTA 1600 '65 - GTsail2
01:08.689 - Volkswagen Golf I GTI '76 - GTsail2
01:09.116 - Toyota Celica 1600GT (TA22) '70 - GTsail2 (corrected)
01:09.540 - Mitsubishi Lancer 1600 GSR '74 - GTsail2
01:10.103 - Nissan Skyline 2000GT-B (S54B) '67 - GTsail2
01:10.191 - Honda 1300 Coupe 9 S '70 - GTsail2
01:10.971 - Honda Civic 1500 3door CX '79 - GTsail2 (ovenight update)
01:11.694 - Marcos Mini GT '70 - GTsail2
01:14.494 - Autobianchi A112 Abarth '79 - GTsail2

I'm a bit surprised with my time with the '70 Toyota Celica. The time is correct, since I ran these laps in the Practice mode, and the Celica is sitting in first place on the Practice list. I will check tonite to make sure that my Celica was stock.

I have the '79 Honda Civic on my other game save, so I will send myself the car tonite and run some Cape Ring laps with it to fill in the missing info.

Overnight update:
It turns out that the Toyota Celica that I tested above had sport medium tires installed.:dunce:

I have re-run the Toyota Celica and turned in a 1.09.116 lap, which I have inserted above.

I have also run the missing '79 Honda Civic and I turned in a 1.10.971 lap.

Thanks,
GTsail

I think that should be a 01:08.983.

Otherwise I tend to believe you had some parts installed that shouldn't have been on the car.

Hmmm. That's why I generally go in the lounge and set all the restrictions, to make sure my cars are on the right tires and really don't have any mods. Easy to miss something you don't remember putting on it. I've sometimes tacked on a couple of parts & put on better tires, in order to run bspec seasonal events with the car for break in... then gone into the lounge to test, forgotten that I'd done that until I get the message I can't enter the track.

Also, I don't know how anyone else is testing, and mostly I should think it would only matter that the same driver tests all cars on the same track with the same settings.

But I'm testing with tire wear on fast - essentially with all the settings like they are in the OP as they will be for the races.

I'm not sure if you can set the tire wear in Practice mode, only on or off I believe? Not fast or very fast... it's either normal or off I think.

Also, setting tire wear to off & testing could also make some cars peculiarly better. Especially on a tire eating track like Cape Ring.

Even when I did test laps on the toscana tarmacs, I was noticing tire wear on the Civic I think before I was even finished with my out lap, never mind the timed laps. That's got to make a difference when it comes to understeer, and I'm quite sure it must mean without the tire wear I might be able to get a better time in the Civic, or maybe the Golf or the Skyline as well (since I noticed I was getting tire wear after only a couple laps in those cars too).

I'm still only testing online (got used to doing so when online and offline physics were definitely not the same), with tyre wear on normal. (all other settings like the series I'm testing for). One benefit of this is, that you can actually switch between cars while staying at the track. In Practice-mode you have to get out to the main menu and reload the track every time. (Another thing they should change for GT6)

With the Comfort-type tyres you may have some trouble getting some heat into them, but after 1-2 laps they're mostly good even on the low-powered cars and stay that way (tyre wear is not an issue for a while then). So, you have lots of laps where they are close to prime condition, so times will be comparable. If I know the track (i.e. if it's not a custom track), it usually will just take 2-4 laps to set a time for reference purposes. You can always go a little faster, but I think you know best yourself, if you put in the same effort with each car.

You're right about offline Practice-mode. Only 'on/off' for tyre and fuel wear.

I checked last night, and it turns out that I had installed some sport medium tires on my Toyota Celica:sly:

I'm going to modify my original post for this error.

I've gone back and re-ran the Toyota Celica with CS tires and turned in a respectable 1.09.116.

Also, I've now run the '79 Honda Civic that I gifted to myself. I ran a 1.10.971 at Cape Ring Inside.

Thanks,
GTsail

I've downloaded the Blick Auf Das Schloss track and ran the cars for some more laps:

Das Schloss (2.15 miles)

01:34.005 - Mitsubishi Lancer 1600 GSR '74 - GTsail2
01:34.920 - Honda 1300 Coupe 9 S '70 - GTsail2

:odd:  :)

IMHO, the Celica is the best overall handling car in the whole line-up. Not saying it's the fastest of course. It's certainly not the fastest on any given track, and the Miata is definitely faster on most tracks for most drivers.
I just mean that the handling seems to be the most agreeable on most of the tracks. Rather than a lot of them where they have certain handling issues, and some handling issues that really get poignant on some tracks more than others.

And I just find the Celica to be enjoyable to drive also, not to mention quite attractive. It's one of my favourite cars in the game.

I only wish my real life Celica was as cool. My (real car) Celica looks cool - people often comment that it looks cool. The round headlights certainly make it more interesting than most of the cars you might see these days in any given parking lot. :) But it's not really any hot stuff to drive. (Though it gets decent gas mileage considering.)

Anyway, regarding testing...
One thing to keep in mind is that different drivers tend to wear tires more quickly than others. This I've noticed since getting gt5 right from the get go. And it's even more enhanced with tire wear on "fast" of course.
I watch a lot of replays so I notice these things. Sometimes it's pretty obvious even with tire wear on normal in spec sprint races.
This is another reason why I've felt it important to get testing from a variety of drivers.

All my testing has been done taking the best time of 2 timed laps.
My reasoning is that if I can't get a better time within those 2 laps, it's because the car is such that I'm not necessarily going to do so well with it in the context of racing either. So I felt that was a fair way to assess the cars against each other. (Not to mention the most efficient use of time.)
I don't think it's important that everyone take the same method or reasoning in their testing, which is why I haven't stipulated anything but that the same driver does all the cars on the same track with the same settings.
I'm going with the "crowd sourcing" theory as being the best way to get an average.
I also have gone with the idea that I should do testing on all the tracks, since I'm a very average driver, and will probably demonstrate average the best.

Request

Does anyone have a spare Civic '79 to gift to Coreyb_26 ?
Let me know, because it's the last car he needs, and I don't have a spare of that model, and the only person reported to have spares of it is jackargent, and he has been incommunicado busy the past week.

I have spares of all the other cars.
So I'm just waiting on people to put in their requests, which should be done ASAP, since we're not only 5 days to the start of the Tuesday series, and I can only gift 1 car per day!

Melon -
I don't have a duplicate, but I now have the '79 Honda Civic on my GTsail2 game (which I save to a thumb drive) so I can send out a copy.

Do you want me to send it to you or should I send it directly to Coreyb_26?

It's likely down to me being a better driver and finding time where Melon couldn't. Also, the S54B and S54A are exactly the same. It says so in the OP.

I think there was a running joke there. Doh! You miss it because you just couldn't pass up an opportunity to brag? You'd think your ego would calm down a bit after your 2nd place the other day.
(Btw: a tenth of a second considering the track, car, and the fact I only did 3 laps to get that time, probably doesn't mean much other than most people will be driving the skyline like drunken monkeys at least part of the time on some of these tracks. Especially in in the rain. :scared:)

I'm just missing that damn civic and that skyline 2000 GT-B. Anyone got them?

Corey -
I can send you a copy of the '79 Honda Civic

Send me a friend request to my gtsail290 game and I will send it along.

One benefit of this is, that you can actually switch between cars while staying at the track. In Practice-mode you have to get out to the main menu and reload the track every time.

I've noticed this and I agree, its pretty annoying to have to exit out of the Practice mode, get the next car and then go back to the track.:grumpy:

I'm still only testing online (got used to doing so when online and offline physics were definitely not the same), with tyre wear on normal. (all other settings like the series I'm testing for).

Are you doing your testing from your own Lounge?

I just re-started my game with the intention of running another test session at Melon's Aso-Dijon track. I entered my coffee cup lounge and loaded in the Aso-Dijon track. Is this the same place that you've been going?

In the practice mode, the game would turn my laps red if I exceeded the track boundaries, but in my Lounge, I seem to be able to exceed the track boundaries without getting red-flagged.:nervous:

Is there an option to turn this on, that I'm overlooking?

Thanks
GTsail

I'll send you a request sometime over the weekend GTsail because I'm pretty busy at the moment and I work long hours now during the day.
