PD is following the e-sports model of iRacing, the leader of online racing. The are trying to distance themselves from the likes of NFS.

Well to a certain extent any Tokyo scenery where there are tall buildings will bear similarities. but the lack of colour and greenery make the areas look dramatically different in the bigger picture. Any time you have any scene absent of living things it's going to look rather lifeless and I suspect that's the source of most complaints about the new track. Add in some trees, some colour, waving flags, billboards etc. and the track would come to life.

I'll admit, it does need colour. "Some colour" is somewhat of an understatement.

Does it matter if iRacing has Free Run or not? GT Sport and iRacing are two separate games made by different developers, and even though GT Sport takes some cues from iRacing's structure for online, PD doesn't have to strictly model it's game after iRacing. I don't see the problem with bringing back the user lobby system from GT5 and GT6, alongside the competitive FIA online events.

Well what else would it be? We know 'Sport' is the official competitions and daily races, seems pretty logical that online will just be open lobby system like before.

Yes it is logical to assume it will be the open lobby system but you never know; it could be an unranked version of Sports mode for all we know.

I mean it could be that but it seems highly unlikely. I know PD are PD but I think even they wouldn't be stupid enough to only include only races at set times with pre-defined cars and tracks.

It doesn't interest me either but I'm pretty sure they do it to have those experiences with somewhat realistic physics, unlike the arcade handling of those other games.

Roleplay is possible, but I think it will never happen. Relationship with FIA seems to be prioritizing completely different aspects of gaming.
