Has anyone else noticed that on the rolling start screen at the beginning of Sport race, as the timer starts it’s count down from 3 that the gap between cars can be manipulated?

I’m usually starting between 1st and 4th on the grid most races and I’ve seen gaps stretch from 1 car length to 4 in some instances and the gap to the car in front of me can be >0.800sec before I’ve even crossed the start line.

I know that if you hold down the accelerator before the 3-2-1 count down starts you get a bit of a jump but I’ve seen some people able to create big gaps.

Have you noticed this too and is there a technique or is it a bug or what’s going on here?

Yes, I even took the time to share a replay in-game. It's titled "Buggy Start" and shows the top 6 having a ~7-second gap to the rest of the field. At Blue Moon Speedway II, that's a huge gap to overcome.

had a great one yesterday where everyone from 4th onward had crashed before the countdown even finished, i had a bad qualifying time and had started last behind the crash and just flew through them into 4th !
i left the qualify time as is and have stated last everytime and have actually done better and randomly have gone from C C to B A ! unbelievable jeff

I've long suspected for a while being cheated with rolling starts.

Yesterdays example, same car standard Sport race in the Audi. Both myself and the car in front at the start appear to be kept in 1st gear around the first corner before the 3-2-1 countdown. The car behind me though, somehow is in 2nd gear around the same bend. The outcome? Well of course the car behind is carrying more speed and I get mugged off the start line.

The replay confirms this is hardly fair in any sense of the word.

It's just basically down to how badly the AI drive (that's who's driving before starts). Low speed isn't very kind to their model, they overestimate how much you need to brake at turns and how much accelerator to use during it, and as most starts involve the pack going round a corner either before, during or after (depending on your position) a start, the resultant huge variation in starting gear and speed can often give certain positions an advantage.

But it seems to be swings and roundabouts. Sometimes the lead cars get an advantage, sometimes the trailing cars. It often depends on how close to the start line the last turns are, and how tight they are.

I think about 90% of my races at Dragon Trail have been very messed up by people getting stuck at the start or just a crazy gap between cars. It seems if there is a good size lobby with 12-16 people the group will get split with the first 6-8 starting far ahead of the back pack.

Noticed this, gaps vary massively, in particular at dragon trail and the gear selection is way off. If you start in pole the game starts you in first yet everyone behind you is in second gear and you instantly get overtaken halfway down the straight!

TBH, sometimes being stuck in that second pack is an advantage, as it allows you time to avoid the usual T1 cluster**** and pick a line through the carnage!

Well, that explains why I got passed before I even got to the starting line. :guilty:
