Ignoring the general stupidity and idiocy of the whole thing (apart from putting Hendrix at #1), there are some obvious exclusions (and some that could have easily been included (you could think of hundreds that should take Jack White's placement up near the top):

Chet Atkins!!!
Joe Satriani!!!
Eric Johnson!!!
Steve Vai!!!
Slash!!!
John Petrucci!!!
Leo Kottke!!!
Muddy Waters!!!
Andres Segovia!!!
Charlie Christian!!!
Django Reinhardt!!!
John Lee Hooker!!!
Wes Montgomery
Phil Keaggy
Robin Trower
John Williams
Yngwie Malmsteen (hahahaha don't flame me)
Allan Holdsworth
Al Di Meola
Steve Morse
Albert Collins
Albert King
Zakk Wylde
Gary Moore
Pat Matheny
George Benson
Billy Gibbons
Robert Cray
Larry Carlton
Paco De Lucia
Uli Roth
Andy Summers
Bill Frisell
dimebag darrel
dave mustaine
James Hetfield
paul gilbert
marty friedman
Jerry Cantrell
...... etc etc etc etc etc etc

Even the guy from Spinal Tap is better than Jack White it must be noted.

Go nuts guys... this list has one or two probs....

Yeah, I've seen this before. Like all other "Greatest _____ of All Time" lists, this one sucks.

The fact that Jack White is even on their makes me sick. And Dave Gilmour at #82?!

Of all the aburdities, the burying of Mark Knopfler at 27th is perhaps the most ridiculous of all...

What, no Doyle Dykes or Merle Travis?

Obviously, you cannot trust a magazine that puts Britney Spears on the cover more than once.

And while Cobain was a ground-breaking song writer, he wasn't that great a player.
They also left of Albert Lee, and many of the really good country guys.

I'm pretty sure the worst placement on that list is Kurt Cobain at #12. Maybe there should be a "GTP Top 100 Guitarists of All-Time" list made? ;)

Obviously, you cannot trust a magazine that puts Britney Spears on the cover more than once.
It makes sense though. She was very sexy, and sex sells.

But you do have to be a flaming idiot to trust anything Rolling Stone puts out.

I agree with bost original posters of this list (both old and new) in that it's simply ridiculous... Chuck Berry above Jimmy Page?? Where's that "Rolls On The Floor Laughing Until I Have A Cardiac Arrest" smiley?.... Zappa, Townshend and Steve Howe at 45, 50 and 69 respectively, whereas Kurt Cobain, Jack White and The Edge are 12, 17 and 24???.. what absolute twaddle... also, I like the way they say "Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits" as if you're not meant to know who he is, but then just say "James Burton" as if you're meant to know who he is ... favourite one, "Johnny Ramone of the Ramones..." well, duh... :dunce:

Speaking of Knopfler and Dire Straits, did you hear that Chris Rea is to join Dire Straits?! The band will be known as Chris Straits.... (well, it's better than Dire Rea...:sly: )

Anyway, since it's been covered before, better close up for now, before the virtriol for Rolling Stone magazine gets ever harsher :mischievous:
