RX-7 FC drifting!

I've just started drifting as of literally last night. I bought a nice new FC RX-7 and tickled it up with all the goodies. Now I've come across a setting that kind of works, but it bogs down in low gear and loses its slide.

To keep all you dedicated drifters from throwing up lunch I'll refrain from posting my setup in here.

This FC has a mad wicked powerband and I know it wants to slide, I'm just not quite sure how to set it up for drift.

So could you help out a drifting newbie and set my FC up to drift like a pro?

BTW - I can drive the thing, and I do know how to drift. ;)

Show me the settings then I can fix it ;)

Hang on! Now hang on just one moment! That means I've gotta get on the PS2 and copy the settings down onto a piece of paper, and I can't be stuffed doing that!

Seriously though, do you need a different setting for each track or is it "one slide suits all"?

Oh, it's for a good cause I guess.

can u drift the car stock w/ no tracktion control or assists? if u can, post a vid. or maybe try S15. U should try looking at the settings others have already posted to give yourself ideas. But u deffinatly want No assists on and most of the pros use SIMs in both front and rear. Drifting in GT3 is much better and requires more skill w/ sims. Plus the drifts look better.. 👍

gt3 is old....
download LFS and Drift w/ us!!! :)

No TCS... It messes with power to the ground..
Damper bound should be around 5-8 depending on your preference...
Omg... Camber max should be only 4... There should also be more in the front, but some setups actually take advantage of the rear camber...
I'd get a 2-way LSD, but that's just personal preference...
That's it... I try to be general because I wanted you to make your own good setup ;) That's all from me ;)

LFS is Live for speed.. It's an online racing simulator... Haven't played in a long time

Take note, Sandstor.... ummm, I mean Stinky...

These settings are pretty well balanced... Note the camber angle... The higher front camber gives the vehicle more control while countersteering, as well as increasing the cars tendency to oversteer... Also, pay attention to the spring rates... The front springs should be a bit more stiff than the rear (by varying degrees)... This also helps with the steering (and intiating) as well as smoother control in higher angle drifts...

Good luck!...

I'd get a 2-way LSD, but that's just personal preference...

You should just learn how to adjust the LSD settings... The only thing a 2 way is giving you is less adjustability... With a full LSD you can adjust it for every vehicle and situation... You can adjust the LSD to control just like a 2-way, if you so desire... It's a good thing to learn... It will help in better understanding your vehicle, and thus, how to tune it effectively...

;)

I know how to tune the LSD SD ( Didn't notice that) but most of the setups I do usually end up feeling very similar to the 2-Way anyway.

I like drift with stiffer springs on the rear. Is that bad???

My FC sett:
spring 3/8
height 108/108
bound 7/7
rebound 7/7
camber 0/0
toe -2/0
stab 1/1
brake 9/24
torque 0/10
acc 0/40
dec 0/20
auto gear 24
asm 0
tcs 0
sims all around
stage 1 turbo

My setting in action:
40mb
3mb

As I said... You should learn to tune the LSD... If you did know, you would have no reason to go with anything but a full LSD... Just think about that... I'm not talking down to you or anything... I'm just trying to help you understand WHY...

No, it's not bad... It's definitely more suited to speed drifting, than exhibition drifting... Most all D1 (as well as droves of amateurs) use a softer rear spring setup, because, well... You read my explanation...

No TCS eh? Maybe that's why I'm bogging down in the corner...

In relation to another post of yours, is there a way you can speed drift as well as exhibition drift? There's nothing like a good fast slide, but I love getting a lot of slide as well.

Yea... Thanks for the heads up, don't worry about apologies. I know your only helping me SD ;)

What's the difference between 1/1.5/2 way LSD and a full customisation?
Im guess that you only customize little things on 1.5 and etc but on Full customized you get to do everything

Yep, that'd be my guess also, but I've never used anything this side of Full Customisation so I'm interested to know the difference between the different LSDs.

I have to thank RX-7_FC_Drifter for those settings. To tell you the truth, I got the idea to drift an FC from you in the first place. Cheers mate.

Well thank you, I feel honored.:)

Well the differences I can see with the LSD upgrades are that 1/1.5/2 way LSD and, a full customization, each tell the car to respond a little differently (from when you hit the gas to power to the wheels). if you play around a little you can feel that the tires wont respond as fast or it take a little more time for your tires to slip and lose traction. If you are a stock drifter you already can feel a dramatic change, between response times. Its all about guess and check. 👍

PS- Stinky Chicken- don't use full HP.

All right mate, I'll stick to your HP suggestion... *scrolls up* 278hp.

To get that HP rating, do you tweak it up with certain bits and pieces, or just any of the HP mods?

If I’m rite (I'm at school rite now) I gave it a stage 1 turbo, Sims all around, not full gear customization, but the one rite before it. Full LSD, Racing chip, Part and Polish. Full suspension, fly wheel and full clutch.

It’s a little hard to remember rite now but when I get a chance I’ll give you all the specs.

-Mike

Thank you. Why not send me a PM if you want?

You'll have to elaborate on this one slightly:

auto 24
Move final gear to left onces using R1

Because I thought you moved the gearing to the right when you pressed R1. Are you saying you want me to put the Auto at 24 and move the Final gear to the right once, or to the left once?

When I return from class, I will give a full detailed description of the different limited slip differentials...

Maybe you should sticky this thread and post the LSD information in it. No, I just want a sticky thread!

Maybe you can make a new thread with the different LSDs somewhere in the GT forums and sticky it?

Here's an idea: Why don't you make a thread and then put it in all the GT forums and sticky it in those forums as well?
