San Diego: Verdict In The David Westerfield Trial In 10 Minutes...

I am not sure how big of a story this is in other parts of North America or the World, but it is huge in San Diego.

The jury has reached a verdict after 10 days of deliberation (technically 9, but this is the 10th day), and they're expected to reveal the decision at 11 AM PST today, which is about 10 minutes now.

Anyone else outside of California heard much about this trial?

This is all that is on CNN.

I don't want to sound harsh, but i have become desenitized to this kind of thing.

I could care less about the trial.

Don't get me wrong, its terrible that this murder happened, but i dont need to hear about it every 5 to 6 minutes.

That's the one thing I don't like about CNN. They don't really need to go over each story twice in 10 minutes. They could do a better job of spreading out the intervals a little bit, but I'm kind of surprised about how much publicity any kidnapping has gotten in the last 6 months.

People are kidnapped all the time. There's always papers at the local market with pictures of kids that haven't been seen in years.

Then there was this kidnapping in SD, and every single one after that has been national news... A bit odd...

This trial has interested me because I've had to hear about it everyday since February, so it's quite big out here...

The media found out the people 'like' (i use that work for lack of a better) to hear/see/watch/read about kidnappings of children.

It brings in the ratings.

Well I think they should stone him to death and televise it, Id watch. They can have the mother, father, and other family members of girl stone his ass to death. I think thats fair to do to a sick old bastard who likes little girls.

The bad thing is, if he gets the death penalty, it probably wont happen for 10 years, and by then he could have it appealed and dropped.

In any case, he wont be on the streets any time soon.

This man was guilty, obviously; the evidence was overwhelming; this verdict should not have taken this long to reach; this is a bit of a disgrace to the American legal system; move this to the Current Events forum.

space/M5Power- I know, I like the way GTP is setup :).

Dudebusta- In a nutshell, a 7-year old girl was discovered to be missing on Feb 2, 2002. She was found on Feb 28, 2002. The trial took place from June until August 8th. The jury took 10 days to deliberate, and found him guilty on all three accounts.

At first David Westerfield (defendant) cooperated with the police and the media. But then they arrested him on the 15th of February or something like that...

Sad story.

Rather vague.

I guess 308 doesn't want to get detailed. Well, it should be on the net in news sites. msnbc.com, cnn.com, foxnews.com.

The truth is that David Westerfield was like so obviously involved; there was fiber evidence everywhere. But because it's California, this jury couldn't do anything right.

The jury did take quite a while to make a decision, but you have to remember they're dealing with life and death, and odds are that out of 12 people, atleast one will want to think about it in depth.

Talentless- Yeah, I really didn't want to go into much detail because it's not pretty. I could have included things like they found her badly burnt, un-clothed body next to a tree on the side of the road, and blood was found on the defendant's jacket, in his motorhome, etc., but I'd rather you guys read that for yourselves, instead of having to discuss it here, because it's not pleasant.
