A seriously bad era for Japanese Civil Engineers. They take great care in building structures over there, so even for a older tunnel, this is a pretty big news.
Man, that's terrible. What's up with all of these engineering failures in Japan? Was the state responsible for inspections in the same way they were at Fukushima? This is getting ridiculous.
Has there been a series of similar engineering failures in Japan? Honestly, this is the first one I've heard about in awhile, but it's not like I pay much attention to domestic news over there.A seriously bad era for Japanese Civil Engineers.
I wish the best of luck to the rescuers and their ongoing efforts.
Mine's with bridges. We are likely to get struck by a megaquake in the Northwest, most estimate between now and a hundred years. Downtown Portland has a lot of bridges, very, very close to fault zones. This makes my paranoia of tunnel collapse grow even bigger...
You just gotta be lucky. Not worried about being able to float on the water. It's dodging the falling cars & chunks of concrete.Yeah I'd brush up on my swimming skills just in case you have to bail out over a collapsing bridge...
I'm stocked up with water, non-perishable food, etc. I sometimes wonder if I should buy a helmet. In Japan, earthquakes were serious business, and they repeatedly trained us to protect the head. I don't know if it was based on some valid statistics pointing to most serious injuries involving head injuries in disaster, or what.God forbid though for you to get into the situation to begin with.👍
