That's true, but someone bumping the thread to bring up how someone is joining the cause or expressing that it's the only real way to drive; or even the opposite examples like bumping to post how a single example of a manual transmission failing implies that manual transmissions are less reliable, is only going to drive a deeper wedge against any amicable discussion on the topic.
I think you're expecting an argument out of every post from every member, which is an expectation bordering on insanity. It's not the Opinions/Current Events forum, after all, it's a sub-forum where we discuss mechanical objects and why we are willing to put up with their costs and mayhem, despite the fact the only thing more dangerous than their wrongful operation is heart disease.
Oh, I bought a then-new manual car, one of three of its model in the entire state. I enjoy driving it after a several days of automatic rental cars. Sure, I'm merely comparing a Scion with some mostly forgettable or average vehicles, but there's something vaguely satisfying about it, mechanical involvement, noise, and physical motion that makes it more intriguing, I suppose.
I guess it's like making your own music versus just listening to it; one can still enjoy music and the art of it, and it doesn't make you less of a fan nor reduce anyone's enjoyment of the work.
Unfortunately, it seems the economy car sector will soon be the only one left with manual transmissions, save a few sports cars here and there, as the technology has improved, and most of the public seems to not care.
