Supercar Challenge - Old Timer Event - 1987 Ferrari F40 - Sunday, February 28th, 2010 - 20:00 hr GMT
"And then there were none..."
Welcome to the final event in the classic series. I've had a lot of fun putting these events together but seeing as we're now into cars from the late 1980s, I think the Old Timer events have run their course and it's time to move on. This event will be run in a similar format to the last 288 GTO event. I will open a lobby under my PSN ID: jjaisli approximately 5~10 minutes before the event starts and will first send race invites to those on my buddy list who have raced in the Old Timer series in the past. If anybody new would like to join, provided there's space in the lobby, you're more than welecome. Just send me a PSN message and I'll send you an invite in return.

QUALIFYING
- Race 1: We will have a two lap qualifying session. For the first lap, please start of immediately to avoid a penalty but then drive slowly to build a gap of a least 5 seconds to the car in front of you. The second time time across the start/finish line will be your one and only qualifying lap. Collisions will be off during qualifying.
- Race 2: Reverse grid from the finishing order of race one.
- Race 3: Qualifying as per race one.
- Race 4: Reverse grid from the finishing order of race three.
PLEASE make sure if you're new to this event that you read the qualifying procedures carefully!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Race No 1 : Mont Tremblant - 15 Laps - Dry - 2 Lap Qualifying
The first corner at this track is fabulous. Get it right and you can gain a lot of time. Get it wrong and it's heart break city. Although (in theory) the fastest qualifiers will start ahead, I'm asking EVERYBODY to show some restraint, particularly on the first lap. And remember the effect of the draft will likely increase your speed and therefore necessitate a change to your braking points.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Race No 2 : Vallelunga - 15 Laps - Wet - Reverse Grid Order from Previous Race
Back to Italy. And this time in the rain. This event will be run in reverse grid order from the finishing positions of Mont Tremblant. Be patient. 15 laps, especially in the wet, should be more than enough time to work your way through the field.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Race No 3 : Homestead Miami Infield - 15 Laps - DRY - 2 Lap Qualifying
This map is not exactly correct as we'll stay on the oval between turns 10 & 14. Much like Mont Tremblant, turn 1 at Miami is the key to putting in a good lap. Get it wrong and you'll pay the price. We'll have a qualifying run before this race so in theory, the fastest guys will start out front. For those in the back of the field, watch for blue flags around lap 8-9.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Race No 4 : Spa - 15 Laps - DRY - Reverse Grid Order
You knew it was coming. And the grid will be reverse order from the last race. I'm predicting this race will last nearly 37 minutes. So again, I'm asking for restraint and fair play with passing moves.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Additional Details:
- I encourage everybody who wants to take part to carefully read THIS THREAD and take appropriate steps before the event. I'm really bothered by the fact that there are connectivity issues with this game. And while I feel very badly for those so afflicted, it's also an imposition to the others in the lobby. If for some reason you are consistently kicked out of the lobby, I will try to send a few duplicate invites. But if after a few brief tries you are unable to stay connected to the lobby, I will offer my apologies and start the event.
- I was quite surprised and pleased by the amount of restraint I saw from people during the 512M race. While there were the nearly inevitable pile ups a the stat of Monza and Silverstone, it sometimes happens when you try to fit 12~14 cars through a pinhole at the same time. The rest of the races, from my perspective were clean and fair. Let's have more of the same!
- Because Eutechnyx has still not patched the ride height bug, I'm asking for everybody to run DEFAULT setup ONLY for this event.
- I encourage the use of headsets, although to be realistic, we know headsets don't work very well when more than 4-5 people are using them at the same time. And if we really have a large lobby, I would like to ask everybody to turn off their headsets completely once the race gets started as it will save bandwidth. Once back in the lobby, feel free to use the mics again.
- I will invite everybody in the lobby to a text chat and will make important announcements in written form so everybody receives clear instructions.
- Between each event there will be a 5 minute break, longer if needed or requested. But I ask everybody to please stay in the lobby.
