I'm a big fan of the original Toyobaru, but especially the new models. If I didn't already have an S2000 then I would be sorely tempted. 220 - 250 bhp and 1200 - 1300 kg is a nice niche for twisty roads, but more power makes sense for the track especially. I've been thinking 300 - 320 would be the next step up, but that inevitably means more displacement or forced induction.

The anaemic intake sound on the boxer comes from the 360° groupings in the manifold. For me it conjures thoughts of old British siamesed-port sidevalve engines - not terrible in its own right, but certainly more tweed than carbon fibre twill. Whereas this same grouping lends a much-loved, knife-edged snarl to a boxer six, it's missing something with only two pairs of pistons. An "easy" fix (if you're going to fabricate something anyway) is to have each runner connect to the manifold in turn, rather than in pairs.

Relatedly, I was reading about the possible production S-FR again only the other night, and I have to say I'm very excited about that. I loved the concept in GT Sport, and I think it is indeed the perfect MX5 counterpart. It should be sharper and more frantic for best results, ideally a well packaged Targa top, if they can manage it.

If they ever do a refresh of the current gen GR86 I would seriously consider buying it. It might be the last car I'll ever buy. I currently have the refreshed version of the first gen 86.

That engine being trialled in the MR GR Yaris for Super Taikyu looks like a nice one for the future Toyota(s).
