HBO's last documentary "Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief" raises few important questions about Scientology. Few former important members are telling a disturbing story about a religion borne from Sci-Fi literature. Interestingly enough, you will see few well known actors, speaking about Scientology and its values.

Best way to make friends here is to post something from a pay service and tell us to steal it so we can watch it......

I'm no fan of Scientology, but I'm no fan of HBO as a source of investigative journalism, either. :)

Steal it???????? Do you know what you are talking about?

Do you? I'd argue that your OP is likely in violation of the AUP. It suggests that you circumvent copyright law and promotes one specific service for doing so.

Best fairytale of the bunch.

Side note:
My girlfriend worked for a dentist who is a member of this 'religion' .

It's safe to say that the guy went completely bonkers every time someone asked him about it.

HI. LA. RI. OUS!

I find Scientology just as silly as Christianity and all other religions. Thankfully (to my knowledge) we don't have Scientologists trying to force their religion down our throat by attempting to pass laws that cater to them.

They're not legally a religion in most countries.

I think it's considered a religion by the US, Spain, Portugal and a few others. In France it's considered a cult, and there's somewhere.(Austria or Switzerland maybe?) That treats it as any other for-profit business.

Oddly enough it's those same silly Christians that created every single law in existance in the country you live in, and from where I sit, it seems that other than a mistake here or there, they got it about 99% right. My country's laws were also created almost entirely by those same silly Christians and this is a pretty darn nice place to live I must say.

Many of the truths that we cling to depend on our point of view.

...What do I think about Scientology? ...Quite frankly, nothing, my dear. Not gonna watch two hour-plus doccie about a subject that I don't find all that interesting.
Now if it was about NUTS, and acorns, then maybe. :mischievous:

I think Scientology is an esoteric religion for people who think they are rich and well connected - likely not a good match for most GTP'ers.

In the 1940s, Hubbard was in contact with Jack Parsons, a rocket scientist and member of the Ordo Templi Orientis then led by Aleister Crowley, and there have been suggestions that this connection influenced some of the ideas and symbols of Scientology.[154][155]

Parsons was an occultist, but well established in Caltech and founder of JPL (Jet Propulsion Laboratory) and cornerstone of NASA. He died under mysterious circumstances.

That is also in the doc...

Off-topic... but just no. The Constitution was written as a secular document.
Completely off topic but yes. I didn't say anything about it begin a secular document, I said the laws were written by Christians.

You know. I think Hubbard summed it up best, "you don't get rich by writing science fiction novels, to get rich you need to start a religion." The fact that he has said something similar to this affect many times reminds me just how blind to truth people allow themselves to be.

Oh, forgot about this part! I disagree. Some laws are perhaps founded with religious intentions. Certainly a recent one in the state of Indiana is. But, I think by and large, since at least the 30's, most laws have in some fashion or another have had a corporate bias. Certainly since the 70's.
I might be tempted to argue that even laws made with a "religious" pretense attached was in fact using religion only as the smoke and mirrors for a more conspiratory scheme. But that's just my opinion on the topic.

I've heard the stories of about what goes on with Scientology. From what I've heard, calling it a cult may not be unfair. Calling it a religion feels like a bit of a stretch for some reason. I mostly lack a strong opinion though. However, I don't want to get involved with them. Maybe I'd have a stronger opinion if I had some kind of incident (Not the Scientology kind) with them. But that hasn't been the case. I'm just going to stay away from them.

Also, the YT posting of the documentary was taken down. Darn. It's something I want to watch. Oh well.
