Dixon commits to IRL - Williams Formula 1 switch ruled out as Kiwi signs new deal with Ganassi
Indy Racing League defending champion Scott Dixon has turned his back on Formula 1 hopes and decided to make his immediate future career in the US-based oval racing series. Dixon has signed a new multi-year contract with his current employer Target Chip Ganassi Racing.
I'm very happy to continue to drive with Ganassi for the next few years, said Dixon. They've always proven that they were committed to winning and we did that together. There is more that we can do together. I want to defend my championship and I want to win the Indianapolis 500. We can now concentrate exclusively on doing that this year and next year and the year after that as well.
Dixon tested twice for Williams this year and was reckoned impressive enough to be included in most speculation about the Grove team's 2005 driver line-up.
Ganassi has not revealed the exact terms of the new deal, but Dixon's comments suggest that he will be with the team for at least two more years after 2004.
