What do I have to do to get my screen to be able to reach 1280*1024? It happened once, for about 20 minutes, then the computer froze, and now it's gone.

My computer only goes up to 1024*768, so if anyone can help me out with some links/info, etc...

Cheers.

If your computer crashes after you set it to 1280x1024, then the computer probably isnt powerful enough to handle it. In that case, the only thing to do is to upgrade, but if it is TAFE's computers, then you're screwed.

Like Cobraboy said, your computer probably isn't powerful enough to handle it. Also, at higher resolutions it pays to lower your refresh rate. :)

Yeah, okay. It's my home computer, not the TAFE one (<- and my computer is a 266MHz beast  ) so yeah.

Any ideas how I can get the high res back again?

TAFE? - Whos that.
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

TAFE is like college - only it's not as expensive and it doesn't cover stuff like Engineering and all those other high paying jobs. To get a decent job you have to go to TAFE.

It's to do with two things: What your monitor can hande, and what your graphics card is capable of.

Your card will need to be powerful enough, both in terms of its processor and memory, to handle the resolution. The load on a graphics card is defined thus:
Load = Screen pixels x colour depth x refresh rate.

You can increase screen pixels by reducing colour depth and refresh rate, although running at refresh rates of less than 70Hz is not good for your eyes, and will give headaches if you're sensitive to brightness shifts.
