Second Impressions...

This is not my first GT. In fact, I've had them all since the PS1 demo disk. I was not impressed my first day. It has quickly grown on me. I found the home page interface clumsy and confusing at first. I wish it was clearer on how to open shops and what the unmarked ones were. Finding races was more obscured than previous iterations.

Day two and I'm grinding like the good ol' days. Already looking for future updates on the legacy tracks.

Definitely a game that took way too long to release. I see it as an updated re-release at best. Not enough of what I was hoping for, by that I mean tracks.
I was impressed with the lack of detail on the old tracks, it looks like they just put more grass, and especially the low quality of Le Mans with many details around the track forgotten, it broke my heart, it is very outdated..

They seem to not touch the AI yet with Sophy not being available at launch (though so far Hard has 2 out of 3 chilis, no Expert though). And the races that some said were challenging had their own chilis separate from the one at difficulty settings (1 to 5 chilis like GT Cup). For License there are people struggling with Licenses like A-9, A-10, and especially S-10.

Dunno about the lack of endurance events, it's about GT7 not displaying all the events at once.

In GT the credits rolling doesn't mean it ends... you only got to roll credits when you have completed the GT World Championship.... always has been in previous GT games. And nothing's more tiny than the career of GT1 anyway, and there you'll roll credits after you complete mere 4 races (Sunday Cup -> Clubman Cup -> GT Cup -> GT World Cup) without touching any of the Special Events (also only 13 races) if you can.

In GT4 for example you can't open Extreme Hall before you complete all races in Beginner and Professional Hall.... so you'd roll credits (as the last race in Professional Hall were GT World Championship) before opening Extreme Hall (also no missions required to complete too, optional just like GT7).
Good point re. AI.

The AI throughout was a throwback to GT3 / GT4 era (and I don't mean that as a compliment!). Backmarkers basically brake checking you mid apex - and then the standard "hare" pack of 2-3 cars streaking ahead. I seemed to also notice that in many of the latter races through the menu series, a car in approx. 4th (just outside the original lead pack) - would suddenly become insanely fast and catch up with you to the front runners.

Sophy cannot come quick enough in a future update!

S10 was a grind of course, and I can only imagine the difficulty for a first time player.

Re. Endurance races - now the menu's are complete there are a few WTC events I didn't enter yet (with tyre wear / fuel usage) - and with higher lap counts. However ... the ones I have seen are only appropriate for GR4/GR3 cars in terms of PP. I assume maybe I missed the GR1/LMP type enduro's ?

Not true, you need to pass the licences to progress past certain Menus, without doing so some of the menu related championships are locked.
He’s right that the higher licences seem to be unnecessary. Must surely be more to come soon that’ll require them. Would explain complete lack of Gr1/2/single seater content so far...

I disagree. GT Sport was a poor racing game, but it still offered a very enjoyable experience for what it was.
On what planet was GTS a bad racing game? Nothing is perfect but it's soul was racing, that's exactly what it was, a racing game. GT7 is a car collection game, it's basically do mission >> get car. Not a lot different from hunting for contents to make potions so you can dig for more contents to make more potions in those relentless questing games.

Honestly they should have split this game in two and untied Sport mode from the rest of the grind. Some people clearly love the grind, there's a market for it so have that at the ready for those folk. For those wanting to race, there should be say 5 tough tests in properly powered cars, you pass them and you go straight to Sport, no strings attached.

Tonight I can hurl Group 2 cars around Lago Maggiore West in Race C with a dozen guys who qualify within a second of me or I can trudge a Honda fit through a stop/start license test. Spare me. Seriously what a dredge.

Indeed, but that would make them partially optional, not completely optional.

While I understand criticism towards the career mode in general and that people's nostalgia for older titles is a thing, I will never get why would you want to do endurance races against the AI in this game. What's the point, if the AI is not giving you a fair fight and the race boils down to 'catch the rabbit'? I actually appreciate that PD didn't push these races into the 'career' mode we have, because they would have been the most tedious and boring races ever, essentially lapping for 4, 8, 24 hours straight. We already had that in previous titles.

And guess what - you can still do these races anyway, as you can set up any race you want on any track you want.

Since launch I have golded every license, completed & golded all the “menu’s” (which I found annoyingly linear and forced) … now speeding through golding all the missions
Don't for get to do the circuit experiences brah.

Some good challenges and fun to be had there from what I've seen.

From some responses i get a strong feeling that Kaz has created his own Death Stranding but Gran Turismo 7 type of a game.

Not sure how anybody feels about the collection of cars.. one of my favourite things in campaign mode was to grind through the races, earning a bit of money and claiming the prize car which I knew I would probably never use, then sell it for the credits to then upgrade my current car or buy a new car for the next event.

This to me was my childhood and the main attraction to GT. I hate how it has come away from this so you own 100+ cars which do absolutely nothing and you can only "discard" then, without winning a car every time you finish a tourney in 1st place.

Once you win the "Café Menu" car for a top 3 finish (which makes no sense). That's it, it's gone and you can just race the race again for no reason.

I really like how this game runs, how it looks, the added extras are a nice touch BUT it's just not a GT game without that dedicated, grinding campaign. Which should also be categorised by licences, like in the days of old!

I REALLY hope they change the campaign. It can't just be all based around the Café with a couple extra races on the odd track here and there, for next to no credits. With no rewards or a chance to sell extra cars....

But I don't think they will
Really hoping for a campaign in near future too .. it happened on Gt sport

Doubt it. GT Sport had no single player campaign at all. GT7 has a campaign already. It’s simply the case that events are tied to each circuit rather than a separate mode.

I love the game. Yes, there are weird decisions that have been made by PD, but I'm sure it'll get fixed in time. The game is gorgeous and I'm having a great time racing. Can't wait for the wheel to get here so I can ready enjoy the game properly. The two disappointing things are the NFS Underground level of AI rubberbanding and seeing about a year and half of weather in a 3 lap race lol. But it's still a good time. Most importantly, I like the economy of the game. It makes the purchase of cars and mods meaningful. I felt like I had to really work to buy my McLaren and the first race in it was super amazing! I'm loving the game, 8.5-9 out of 10!

My first impression was positive, good to see a large selection of cars day one (unlike GT Sport which took literally years to add up). Second impression was also good, but disappointed about the lack of ability to sell cars. But I assume that's credits can be bought with microtransactions and people would probably abuse the system.

The pp slider would be I. The form of the power limiter in the upgrades store I down graded a few cars with that
Yep, I do use that and it is a must. Do you realise that IF you change the ride height e.g lower it on a rally G4 car it ups the PP? When you get to the menu book on G4 rally cars there are 2 on dirt and 1 on tarmac.

So if you don't have one already equipped you must cancel the race, leave the the lobby, go to the tuning store, buy the unit and return to the race. All a bit much don't you think?

So basically every car must be equipped with this device, even for untuned racing because every time a different tyre choice is made the PP also changes >:-(

The menu isn't all what the game provides, as I said above completing GT World Championship is the only requirement to get the credits rolling, not being 100% at the game in general. And GT7 doesn't display all the races at once (like in older GTs you can view all races while not entering them, except if the menu forbids like Extreme Events in GT4 at first, but the menu's shown there), so yeah the available events would be more mysterious here.

Yes, strange choice of U.I., less functional than the previous ones, as we had predicted, even in relation to the trailers shown previously.
