I was watching Friday's episode of AOTS on G4 and during "The Feed" the following quote took me by surprise:

According to the latest issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly there are some juicy video game rumors swirling around, and we've got the run down for you.

*snip*

...but the most exciting news is that a popular gaming studio is now working on an open ended Grand Theft Auto style Batman game. It's about frickin' time.

I immeadiately thought that perhaps this has something to do with last month's announcement from Rockstar:
Considering that announcment and now this rumor from EGM where GTA is used to describe the "style" of the game, makes me wonder if this rumored Batman game is what Rockstar was elluding to?

If so let me be the first to say thank goodness!!!!

As a huge fan of Batman, from the early comic books, to the cheesy 60's TV series, to the Dark Night graphic novels, to Burton's take on the Bat, and of course to Christopher Nolan's brilliant re-birth of the film series - one thing that has continually disappointed me is that there has never been a decent Batman game.

I had high hopes for EA's Batman Begins, but like so many EA games, it left me severely disappointed!

I'd love to hear others' thoughts are on this rumored project, and while we're at it, I'm curious to know what other "Super Hero" or "Super Villain" characters you would like to see in a GTA open-ended style game where you would be able to roam freely doing good...or bad... or both?

I can think of so many Super Heroes & Super Villains, but Batman would be a great fit for this style of game. 👍👍

Let's hope all of the vehicles are present in the game :)

If there is just a limited of vehicles i wouldn't be interested.

GTA is the hallmark of open ended games. When things (be it people, articles, or snippits) want to describe an open ended game, they're not going to say "a Saints Row style Batman game", or "a Scarface style Batman game", or "a Crackdown style Batman game", they're going to reference GTA instead because it's familiar with the most people. That doesn't mean Rockstar is making the game.

Besides, EGM's rate of rumors actually leading to something real is roughly 50%.

I'm just letting you know since all this is going to set you up for disappointment.

Thanks. I'll definitely keep that in mind. :)

That said, no matter who develops it, no matter what platform it's geing to be on, if it's a quality game in a GTA style format, I'll be extremely pleased. 👍

If you hear of anything about this possible game, please share it with us.

I want to know whats happening with Rockstars LA Noire, Wasnt that supposed to be PS3 exclusive?

Yes, and it still is... despite what Evan's PS3 Exclusive Games thread says/doesn't say.

In fact, what's odd is that Evan even posted confirmation from Take 2 that L.A. Noire was in fact exclusive to the PS3, but I think he was more focused on pointing out the exclusivity of the GTA4 DLC for 360. :)

Just some news that PS3 owners might be interested in:

Take-Two’s line up announced to date for fiscal 2008 includes the following titles:
Title Platform
Beaterator PSP
College Hoops 2K8 Xbox 360, PS3, PS2
Grand Theft Auto IV – Episodic Content Xbox 360
L.A. Noire PS3
Midnight Club: Los Angeles Multiple Platforms
NBA 2K9 Multiple Platforms
NHL 2K9 Multiple Platforms
...given he knew this info as far back as June, it is odd why Evan has chosen not to list L.A. Noire as a PS3 exclusive, but no big deal. The game looks like it wont be out from some time any way.

Prior to this, there was some confusion over the exclusivity of L.A. Noire because the official developer site only says "Next Generation Consoles". However Rockstar and Take 2 have confirmed this is a PS3 exclusive.

BTW: L.A. Noire looks like a really cool game and a great homage to L.A. Confidential and of course all the great Film Noirs from the '40's & '50's! 👍

Another exclusive PS3 game from Rockstar missing from Evan's list is Red Dead Revolver 2. What's interesting here is that this series was originally multi-platform, but the sequel is now apparently a PS3 exclusive.

That's why I didn't add the game because of what the developer's website have said. I'll go ahead and add it to the list though because the Take-two release date list is more recent.

...And the reason that's not on the list is because all we've seen from it was a two year old trailer (without even a real name, just "Old West Project"), and that's it. And given the previous game was multiplatform, it's a bit of a stretch to call it a PS3 exclusive given the lack of details.

On G4's Feed, it reported on an update on L.A. Noire:

'L.A. Noire' Too Big for 360?
Posted on October 08, 2007 11:16 AM by sjohnson on G4tv
According to Australian gaming blog Surfer Girl Reviews (via kotaku), Rockstar's free-roaming sandbox period game L.A. Noire is just too hefty to fit on the Xbox 360s miniscule DVDs. So it will only be available on the PlayStation 3. Sorry, Xbox owners.

More details on L.A. Noire.
  • The game will be a free-roaming title with a historically-accurate recreation of Los Angeles in 1947.

  • Team Bondi has even hired a costume designer to research the clothing of the era so the game's attire can be accurate.

  • Aside from main story, side missions will be based on actual cases pulled straight of the newspapers of 1947.

  • A US Marine plays a big role in the story.
Thanks, Australia.

L.A. Noire looks interesting. It reminds me of L.A. Confidential, China Town and Mulholland Falls, which are favorite movies of mine.

Now that is seriously cool!:crazy:

Cannot wait for this game!... if its got the graphics to match GTAIV or maybe even better its going to be a big exclusive seller for PS3.
