Sense of speed in GT5:P

Maybe because GT5P has high Frame rate of 60 FPS? other racing games are 30.. when you drive faster you can really notice difference between 30 and 60, 60 is much smoother thus making it seems slower then other games because of the smoothness and clearness.

If we had a little bit more movement of the wheel at high speeds in every car, so that you would have to hold the wheel all the time on straights, then gt5p sense of speed would be perfect.

Yes, same with cam shake. Games like rFactor simulates the Gforce effects on your body, so going fast more shake..

I realise this change in the sense of speed too - and I put it down to three reasons.

1. the bumper cam is lower on GT4 - and most of the time I use the cockpit cam in GT5P

2. The bumps can throw you off alot more in GT4 and this is down to worse suspension modeling (only on some counts - sometime's it's spot on)

3. After going from GT5P to GT4, you don't feel as in control as you used to because you realise the cars are more twitchy with less input. (IMO)

Yeah, I couldn't even control my perfectly tuned Viper when I went back to 4. It made me wonder how I ever played the game in the first place.

Anyway, Prologue feels fine to me, cockpit view makes it feel fast, so if I ever really want to feel like I'm flying down the track, I use that view.

field of view is very important to have good sense of speed, you can adjust that in pc sims...

and off course having tripple monitors helps quite a bit....

but the most important thing I think is the width of the track and the amount of objects besides it.

Again, I don't see this as realism, in real life I would be compensating automatically with my vision with the shaking, etc, so it would just be odd to have shaking and would probably make it irritating to play.

I think this is getting into the boundaries of going from fun-realism to annoying-realism. Also, some parts of real life are just not possible to simulate in a way that enhances the experience without taking away too much at the same time.

True, the NSX in GT4 is alot more twitchy and oversteers alot more in GT4 than GT5P and, unbelievably, more unpredictable, and considering how challenging the GT5P one is already, yikes!!!!!!

Yeah of course. I don't mean a lot of shake.. something like rFactor . but then Again, your body inside the car is not moving up and down, side to side.. hah you are right

has anyone here actually been over 150MPH? well ive been 168 in my viper and it is INSANE! then when i jump in GT5 or even GT4 it just feels stupid when i easily do 200. it feels so slow its like driving my moms buick down the straight of fuji, its just slow. this isnt the games fault though as there is no way (unless you spend thousands on a motion rig) to simulate driving a car at these speeds. and @ nox: your car is moving up and down left and right even on a straight away. the slightest bump at 150+ feels like going off a curb and the slightest gust feels like a... well a gust of wind i guess :P its a very complicated feeling to describe but its extremely exhilarating and frightening at the same time :) ok well i hope this clears up this whole speed thing 👍

In GT5P all tracks seem to be really smooth, so that also depends.. But Daytona oval is bit bumpy on turns.

So depends what ROAD or Race track you've been with your viper.. a Mercedes can go 150 as well and you wont even feel it unless it's really bumpy road.

So here is good example.. Guy is going fast.. camera is fixed to the car.. so it seems pretty smooth, but if you look at the guy in the chair, he is experiencing hell. And yeah notice its a race car.. so really STIFF suspension.

Seems GT5P, the camera is way too fixed. I would love to see an option or a slider to replicate G-Forces on your body 0-100% That way not everyone have to use it.

So we need something like this (as an option ) in GT5

^^^ Interesting... would be a cool feature IMO.... and rFACTOR looks pretty cool too :D

OK rFactor looks awesome - but I always think PC games are out of my league because you need a hell good computer. Still - it'd be great to have a point to point like that - especially with the lush scenery - that is also what made TDU work so well.

It's really simple: in the beginning of gt5p there was a video comparision of the ferrari irl and on the game. That was an exact match....

Nuff said!

PS: Have you ever tried to film yourself going 200 km's an hour. I did and it looks slow as hell on camera...

edit: so to conclude, the sense of speed is wright!!

u have a valid point nox but that guy was on a track and it was still bumpy as hell. but i was on a traffic going freeway in my viper so that could have been the reason i had crazy shakes :P there is still no way to recreate going that fast because your body isnt sensing any gforce and you actually have to MOVE to get that feeling. wasnt this thread about the difference betweeen GT4 and GT5? haha sorry i think we were off topic

Well the topic just says "Sense of Speed in GT5:P"... so I guess anything that has to do with that factor in GT5:P is discussable here... I was just using GT4 as an example to get the discussion going and incorporate my recents findings and experience 👍

Were you also flying past a bunch of cars at that time when you were on the highway? If you place a bunch of cars going 70 down the straight of Fuji, and you fly by them going 150+, yeah it'll look like you are flying, which you are haha, but if everyone around you was doing 150 (like in the game), it might not feel quite as fast either.

You are correct though about the G-forces. It adds extra adrenaline and sense of fear. I think if damage was added to GT5, it would add to this feeling because you wouldn't want to hit a wall at 120 and damage that beautiful car :D , but you still obviously wouldn't get the G-force effects.

Referring to my first post, like I said, a lot of it has to do with what's around you and how fast you see it go past you. If you go to the salt flats and do a top speed run, it wouldn't really look like the earth would be moving around you very quickly. If you do 130 around a turn on Nurburgring, most people would probably freak. It's bumpy, fast and slow, and there is a lush environment around you.

Has anybody mentioned Need for Speed: Shift?

It's coming out september and it's supposed to have mean effects like tunnel vision at real high speeds and your driver gasps and tense up when you're about to hit something hard.

Oh, and the damage physics are supposed to be mad awesome.

Real life has no effects on your eyes.. tunnel vision? You are not going as fast as sound in an F16 between two buildings.. even in F16 everything seems slow..
I understand NFS wants to give you a blackout once you hit something really fast.. That I understand.. but going fast does not give you tunnel vision.
All we need is something like in that rFactor video, simulationg G-Force effects acting on your body.
