Shelby Series1 SUPER CHARGED, listed as NA? What?

While doing the National-A event "NA Sports Series" I spotted a Shelby Series One Super Charged in the grid with me before starting... Well, that sure seems strange given its an event only for "natural aspiration" i.e. non-turbo or supercharger.

So, I backed out and went to go check out the Shelby at the dealership. Sure enough, it's listed as NA.

Despite the fact that ITS IN THE NAME OF THE CAR, and reading the Car Info explicitly mentions the use of a supercharged V8.

Anyone got a good theory on this one?

According to Wikipedia the car was available normally aspirated, with a supercharger optional.

I just took a quick look at it and the HP numbers look like they're from the NA version, but the car is labeled as the "super charged".

also there are some 0-60 figures for each version on the Wiki link but its written very poorly so I'm not sure if i'm interpreting right or not, 4.4 for NA and 3.2 super charged (I think).

It might just be miss labeled. I going to dig a little deeper in a bit.

It does seem odd, to have a car with 'supercharged' in the name, to be classed as NA.

Do supercharged cars have the boost gauge?

That might be a way to check if it is actually supercharged in game? Just shooting in the dark here.

The car in the game has the correct specs of the regular model. The name is just wrong. Has been since GT4.

Yep, seems to be the case. 310-ish hp seems awful weak for a "Supercharged" car. Just fired up GT5, has the same specs and even the description is a direct port.

I know you guys have this fairly ironed out now but i though I'd add a bit more info.

The best Info I came across if from a Road and Track review I also found this interesting read on Car and Driver

The first article lists the NA version at 320 HP while the Supercharged had 525, but its an old article and I believe the supercharged version wasn't out at the time. Theres some interesting stuff there though.

Ah, thanks! Now I'll have some fresh gear-head reading material for later tonight.

And @FussyFez I just tested two different SC cars (Jag XKR-S and Stielow Engineering Red Devil) and neither one show a boost gauge like turbo cars do.

The Series One project went belly up before the final details were sussed out on the supercharged version of the car, so it's probably safe to say that no "official" specs for the car exist.

Mhmm.

The reason I asked is because I'm pretty sure gt5 had the boost gauge for S/C cars.

The alternator output is 200A at 14.4v

There is not a boost gauge associated with the supercharger. The only way to tell from the driving perspective that I'm aware of is to hear that characteristic whine (like a Victorian woman in crisis, as Clarkson described the Vauxhall VXR8 Bathurst edition).

Here's Hammond referencing said description that is underlined with an easy-to-hear example of the supercharger whine I'm talking about (this should automatically start at the ideal part of the video; if not, skip forward to 2:26):

Since turning off the background music I have been able to pick out that supercharger whine in the cars that have them installed from the factory, though some are fairly faint/subtle.

Yeh, I can hear it in my super charged ae86, just couldn't remember if there was one in gt6.

Quite sure they had one in gt5, though I may be mistaken.

Though, to be fair, the Oldsmobile Aurora (source of the Series 1's V8) is rated at 250hp, and a 24% power increase from supercharging in a production application seems pretty reasonable, especially from the General. Oddly enough, that 24% increase would just about cover the extreme power sapping caused by the gargantuan 4T80E trans that backs the L47 in that Oldsmobile, so shame on them for not offering the car with a blower.

I just tried this car and GOOD JESUS does it want to rollover on every corner. My test course is Brands Hatch GP and it will rollover easily on the first and last corners without any help of kerbs. It can flip on all other corners but one with kerbs.

This is absurd.

I'm using race soft tires and race soft suspension like I would to race online but if this is what it's like on all courses then :yuck::crazy:
