Its weird the last two days i have gone back to GT5 and my driving of the cars especially RWd cars has improved on gt5. Is SHift 2 improving something in my driving very interesting. it could just be that iam just getting better period. but anybody have any thought on this?

I haven't gone back to GT5 since I got Shift 2! :D

But driving in Shift 2 could improve you in GT5 because Shift 2 forces you to be careful and conservative. In Shift 2:
  • You can't crash on other cars and you can't use them as brakes (like you can in GT5) cause you will probably spin and crash,
  • you can't just hit the curbs at full speed without any consequences (like you can in GT5) cause the car will propably destabilise and you will spin,
  • when the car lands after a big jump it destabilises violently (unlike in GT5) so you should moderate your speed before the jump and learn the track geometry,
  • when you get on the grass you should be really carefull to to not turn violently or the car will roll (unlike in GT5). Therefore you are forced to be carefull not to slide of the track.
  • the "corner mastered" mechanism in Shift is a great way to learn new tracks and also a very addictive mini-game. Also the fact that Shift 2 doesn't show you the recommended gear before a turn forces you to learn the track and the brake points and not rely in a recommended gear display (though I admit GT5's recommended gear display is useful for new tracks and cars but I would like to be able to turn it off because sometimes it's distracting and confusing).
  • Also you can't overpower the competition, the AI puts up a fight, you can have a race-ending crash etc...

I am loving Shift 2! It's a great racing game! I find that many cars handle brilliantly and you can really make a difference with tuning and upgrading. I prefer it over GT5 (though I admit there is brilliance in GT5, for example Nordschleife).

The racing line mastered thing annoys me in Shift 2, as there is no "right" racing line, i often set much faster laps avoiding the suggested racing line and was only following it for the objectives and Xp. Racing line depends on the car you are driving, the setup of the car and in the race the situation you currently find yourself in around other cars.

I found shift 2 caused me to be too heavy on the throttle when i tried GT5 again, i also had a sigh of relief when i felt the 900 degrees wheel with smooth turning and lack of input lag.

Did Shift make me better or worse? I'l say it made me a little more careful around other cars as i was used to how sensitive car contact was in Shift 2. Otherwise it didnt really do anything. I found almost every race in Shift 2 i was in first place by the first corner due to how much grip you have on starts, so that wasnt something that happened much. Eliminator races you start further back and i had some fighting to do there.

Really? I find I'm usually starting somewhere between third and tenth, depending on the race and how much the computer is trying to handicap me. In a 4WD you can definitely get great launches, but it's really tough to make anything more than 4 places off the start, and even that requires some skill dodging around people. And then you have to defend that position.

I haven't gone back to GT5 because there's nothing left for me to do there (my net isn't good enough for online play at the moment), but I suspect Shift is sharpening my racecraft. I'm definitely becoming better at finding safe ways to tail people and make passes.

The good thing about the corners master and racing line objectives is that if you mess up mid-race it gives you something to focus on if getting back to 1st place is no longer an option.

Or if you're out in front and need something to do.

I went back to GT5 too ,just see see and feel the differance and I think im better at GT5 too now, shift 2 made me a better overall driver,I love GT5 ,but something about shift 2 keeps me coming back to it,its real addicting like a drug or something.. it just way more intense than GT5.... It's because GT5 is half year old and everything has been made there. Shift 2 is new and has new challenges and tracks. That's the only things keep me playing Shift 2.
As for physics in Shift 2 it's nearly non-existent.
It's a way worse than in GT5. Bots have very high weight (comparing to player's car) and sticky tires. No matter if you touch bot or bot touches you, you will spin off the track while bot won't even change direction and continue to move its way. Bot easily can overtake player by driving on grass. Bot are unaware of player completely, if they need to move to side, they will do this regardless if player occupied this place. Bots are like trains on railroad. Driving in Shift 2 is just driving on worst line just to avoid bots. The only strategy in Shift 2 is to get first position at first moment of competition and then you will be able to follow best line and eventually win.

Of course, after this disastrous driving in Shift 2, you will see how GT5 is good to drive and enjoy it :)

Are you serious? The AI in Shift 2 is much more aware than the AI in GT5. They will rarely hit you unless it's unavoidable, or you hit them first. They're the complete opposite of trains on a railroad, you can watch them fighting with each other for position.

You do spin out easily in Shift 2, until you learn how to catch the car. It takes a serious shunt for the AI to take me out now. When I started playing, I reckon 80%+ of contacts had me in the wall. Now it's maybe 30% or less, it's very rare that contact drives me off the tarmac.

Learn the system. It's very interesting once you get into it, although it is very different to GT. I'm not sure that's a bad thing though, GT is not well known for spectacular AI and crash dynamics.

DRiving in GT5 now feels so much easier its great trainging to go throgh shift 2

You are having a different version of Shift 2. It is right the opposite here. The AI is very fair. I can easily go side by side through a corner and they are not staying on the line. I recently drove the endurance race at Spa in night. It was a very intense race, sometimes very horrifying (in a positive way) with the cars behind me lighten up my cockpit and waiting only for a little mistake. I remember how I was in the first place and I was going side by side with the second pone AI through eau rouge. He tried to overtake and I thought this will end up with us both in the wall. But, everything was fine. He was as cautious as I. It was breathtaking.

I already posted this in some other thread but, I got back to GT5 at a friends house (he's using my copy). He was in trouble with IA-10. I did silver without a sweat then i kept going through the S license golding some races at first attempt.

I used the DFGT he also borrowed from me (after I got my G27) and it was the wheel I used for most part in GT5. I remembered the game being much more difficult but even with those ****** pedals :D seemed too easy. I did make sure no assists except ABS1 were off.

Overtaking AI is like doing slalom and its easy. I have yet to try the A-Spec but I suspect where I needed slicks (if allowed) to gold an event I can lap the AI now :D

As of why, I have to say everything is slow as hell in GT5. I'm ready to gold Suzuka with the FGT now :D I may even care to to the X1 special event :D

I have been driving karts for nine years and I know the exact experience. Two people on the edge but yet so much in control. Also I know what you are talking about in game and have thought this to myself.
