Shift 2 is a great game but like everything in life it could use some improvements, so I made this thread so that everyone could share their ideas that they think might make the game even better.

Attention: this is not a bug report thread - theres allready a sticky on that > https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=201599

so Ill start with some ideas of mine that I think would improve the game a bit:

Livery editor:

- More primitives especialy arcs because you cant do arcs with some base colors on the cars
- Better resolution on some objects (when you scale some objects you can see the poor low resolution)
- Numbers and letters stickers (mainly 3 or 4 simple fonts who do)
- The hability to put stickers on head/tail lights
- Full body stickers (like in underground 2 and carbon) just a hand full would do for those with not much skill or as a base for a more complex livery
- tribal stickers (not that I like it all that much but I used some in the first shift and some came out nice)
- Flames stickers (again like the above)
- More gradients or maybe just one true gradient sticker
- More marks and comercial stuff
- The hablity to import jpgs or any image type into a custom sticker option (if possible it would make all the above ideas obsolete)

Pits and race strategy

- Dont need to go much into this I believe you all know what Im talking about here

Custom championships

- random cars and tracks
- Specificaly chosen cars and tracks by the player - as number of laps - etc, etc
this one would really boost the value for money of the game - because the game is brilliant but a person can do the same races/championship only that much before he/she gets tired

More mecanical damage/optional of course (one more damage option like for example hardcore damage)

- the damage system visualy is one of the best Ive seen par with Grid and Dirt 2 but it doesnt translate much into mecanical damage
- The hability to DNFs - some times I total the car but it just stays there and I have to restart because I dont get any DNF
- Easier to break head/tail lights in night races - when I read the previus of the game I thought that it would be a feature of the game but it is damn hard to break/loose your lights in night racing in fact you have to total your car to loose the lights
- Broken suspension
- Engine and brakes failure

Team career mode

- We could have a career mode were with would team up with an AI driver or a friend co op kind of thing- it could also be present in the custom championships option

Sound in replays

- I think Shifts sound is wonderfull when racing but in the replays it isnt that good - for example if you close your eyes you cant tell if your car is close or far away - it doesnt mach very well whats happening on the screen. its like its being recorded always close to the car sometimes closer sometime less close... I dont know if Im making myself very clear on this suggestion. but the point is to make the reaplys sound more real

I think I have some more good ideas and if this thread gets any support or interests anyone Ill share them with all, who knows maybe the devs will look into it and even if it doesnt make it into this game it might make it into the next one... this and a few other ideias that you might have would turn an allready great game into an epic one IMO of course...

Actually i would like to have a function to change car settings in a track not just in tuningtesting. Just like GT5 before a race you can change the settings before the "race challange". What would be great if that setting you change autosaved (or asked if you like to save that setting before you exit) for that track and loaded up automatically when you get in that track too.

Yes that would be nice, much like GT4 had with the practice option before a race (that would also count as qualifying)

Yes definitly qualify for MP and single player I dont know how I missed that... its even more important than pit stops IMO
Dynamic weather would also be nice but I think (as a PS3 user) it would have a great impact on the hardware

I reckon the biggest addition would be pit stops with accurate fuel depletion and tire degradation.

However, big changes like this and those listed above are more likely to appear in shift 3 if there is one.

I doubt very much if anything will change other than more cars, tracks and bug fixes. That is if we get any more than the 3 DLC's we already know about.

Well I still have the hope than they might had a few sticker and at least numbers to the vinyl editor in a future patch or DLC...

And of all the improvements the custom championship would also be very very nice (something like F1 2010 has) I wouldnt play any other game until Shift 3 came out if I could do custom championships.

How about a hardcore career mode?
Why can't the Sunday cup equivalent be a 15 lapper.

Don't really like 2 laps of this or 3 laps of that.
Increase payout for people who would be prepared to run these.

Keep the shorter options for people who like to pick up and play.

That would be cool - sort of like and option with full race distance - true to life race distance.
But I would be extremely happy with a custom championship with at least qualy included (just like f1 2010)

Flags and race rules

- Marshals waving flags (if we have debri at least put a marshal before it with a yellow flag)
- pit stop drive through penaltys (or stop and go) even if they dont make pit stops they could use the pits for the drive throughs especially online

Agree with you Trib.

In order to accommodate pitstops they would have to run more than 2 laps though lol.

The casual gamer could have an option to skip it but it would really had replayability to the game (if there is such a word)
💡 And another idea would be to be able to buy your pit crue just like you buy cars... like 10 diferent type of pit crues (as performance goes) from lets say 10000 (15 seconds pit stops, crappy info on the radio and no setup aids) to 1000000 (5 seconds pit stops and very usefull, detailed radio info and usefull setup tip)

I think Im overdoing it a bit with the crazy ideas :dunce::dunce::dunce:

At least sun movement (day/night transitions its aiming high...)

If you can make custom races and choose say 30 laps, I bet the sun won't be at the same spot IRL so, it should move during the race also. If done from dawn to nigh I can hardly imagine what other game can match such beauty.

The ability to play music through the PS3. Seems like games used to have this option but I have not seen a game have that ability in a long time. Seems easy enough to implement.

Plus everything you have added.

That's one thing I like in this game. NO music while racing makes sense to me (mostly because the sounds are awesome)

I don't even listen to music in the menus any more. If only I could have my speakers on during the night... I don't hear half the engine sounds on my TV :grumpy:

Dymanic lighting system? like GT5? I think it would only be worth it in very long races (more than 2 hours)
That would be cool if we could do co-op more than 4 hour races (up to 24 hours) with multiple players driving the same car - 2 hours each - exchange in the pits - and each one in is own home through the internet.... that would be epic

I can picture it allready 22 hours into the race - running in first and everybody is awake to see the last stint (like in GT5 were you can watch the other racing through the web) - last player comes in - half an hour later gets disconnected

#1. Make sure that the telemtry data matches up with the numbers in upgrade mode. Weight seems to match up, but horsepower is almost never correct. This seriously ruins the balance of almost every class.

#2. Add another layout for tuning that uses real parameters and units (tire pressure, suspension, etc.)

#3. Revamp the works conversion entirely. Many of the cars that are works converted have a small decrease in weight and a huge increase in power. If all the cars changed into lightweight, mid-high horsepower racing machines, then we wouldn't have some cars feel like overpowered street cars rather than balanced race cars. The Gumpert Apollo is a PERFECT example of a proper wroks conversion, and the Stirling Moss would be the exact opposite.

#4. Add Telemetry views for specifically the engine (heat, turbo boost, etc.), aerodynamics (current drag coefficient, downforce for front and rear etc.), and damage.

#5. Upgrading the cars isn't as detailed as the telemetry in important areas. The Telemetry shows a full range of what the engine is capable of, but there isn't a graphical representation of the engine's ability when upgrading. The forces on the tires show an obvious change in weight distribution at speed or cornering, but you never know the weight distribution of the car itself when installing weight reduction or changing engines.

#6. Split A class into two groups. 1500 - 1999 could be AB class and 2000+ could be A class.

#7. Allow a wider range of engine swap options for a number of cylinders above, equal, and less than factory spec for as many cars as possible.

I won't live to see the day where you can co-op endurance races...

Why not???? I think it will be the best next big thing IMO... but first of all you have to have... night and day transitions, dynamic weather, pit stops, flags and rules, mecanical damage and a very steady and trustworthy internet connection...

Sounds more like a Shift 3 wish list.

But, bring back the steering for drifting from Shift 1..... Shift 2's is just wonky..... or better yet dont alter anything for drifting(tires).... Let the user choose the tires.

Yeah for drifting it should be exactly the same as racing... and its up to us to find a good setup for it or choose a predefined setup for those that dont know much about it.

I'd still like to see some cockpit/helmet view adjustability:
- amount of look to apex
- amount of movement due to G-forces
- camera/seat positioning
- FOV
- amount of blurring and black & white

And:
- autolog recording records for each car class

In race/race prep:

- remove the RIDICULOUS magnetic crash effect!!! WHY on earth is this even implemented to begin with?!?
- qualifying
- pre-race tuning!!! why is this still not there in version 1.02?! I d have thought they d be like "Oh snap, we kinda forgot something quite important, people..." when the first players complained about that crucial feature missing!
- custom championships would be totally bananas, tribolik! Please fw that idea directly to SMS asap! :dopey:
- or the smaller version: why not make it possible to select the lap amount of races and have a payout per lap system? Like: Mount Panorama, works spec cars, elite on level hard, 5000 credits per lap and you can choose to drive from 1-20 laps

Livery editor:

- refined, way more delicate controls
- free camera control
- fix the stupid mirroring messing up the angles
- more elements: Numbers!!!, letters, sponsors

I dont care at all for online racing, so no ideas from me for that part...

Yeap the championship editor would really make the lifespan of the game increase alot.

And the livery editor could also have a button for fine adjustment/zoom area

if you put the option to select the number of laps than autolog is ****ed up and useless.

The possibility to create custom championship ( select opponents, tracks, d/n, laps, and also putting a reward car) that can be uploaded and played also by other players so you can check autolog also in them.

One more thing:

- Remove or reduce the dashboard reflection (in real life you hardly see it since you focus way ahead of the windscreen).

Add ghost cars during time attack events, so you can see a ghost of your best lap, as well as the ability to turn them on or off on the fly (like GT5).
