I'm thinking of buying a ps4 just to play gt sport. I've seen reviews of the game that say it is great.

Do you have any way of trying it out first?

I mean, that's a big investment. I can tell you that I bought one just for GT Sport and I don't regret it. I have been playing it daily ever since. In fact, I ended up upgrading to a PS4 Pro. See if you can find someone who has a PS4 and pick up a used copy of the game to try on their machine. Just in case you don't like it.

Best of luck and let us know how you make out.

BTW, I also bought a Thrustmaster T300 RS but I am a racing game/sim addict.

My opinion is No, you should buy a PC because GT Sport has 7.5 million players (or so I've heard) and we need more racers on servers over here.
But, you'll end up with a PS4 and GT Sport.
Happy grinding, I mean holidays!

Honestly do what's best for you and your budget, and welcome to gtplanet.

My opinion is NO.

However saying that I bought a PS3 entirely for GT5/6 and my PS4 does only GT SPort and Gungeon.

If you dont care about the cost and you're a big time PD fan then go for it.

I feel like you have to get into the 'vibe' of PD and GT to spend your $300 etc.

The online competitive races is where this game absolutely shines (You’ll need a PS+ subscription).

But if you’re not into that, definitely don’t buy a PS4. And even if you are, it’s still not a must buy. I myself only play a few times a month now even though I have a wheel which makes the game even more enjoyable.

My strong recommendation is to watch some streams of people playing and decide for yourself if it looks like something you’d be into.

I suggest exploring other games like Dirt Rally, and also RDR2 if you're okay with non racing games type.

Buying a console exclusively for one game is always a bad idea imho. GTSport has strong community and generally a decent game to play with, that is if you play sparsely like 2 days a week.

If you plan to play like everyday then no, it'll definitely worn out on excitement. Same as most other games really.

I did. No "ragrets", but that's me. I did wait(6 months after launch) until I read all the info about the game, in these threads.

Do that first and then, make your own decision. Seriously.

The only Playstation games I have ever played for longer than just trying them out, are Gran Turismo games. So it's needless to say that I bought a PS4 Pro just for GT Sport and I will most definitely get a PS5 when a Gran Turismo title is released for it.
By now the GT Sport has so much more content than at the beginning, so you will have endless hours of fun, go for it!

100% do it. I got my Ps4 Pro + VR kit in August and bought about 20 games incl GT Sport. Tried a bit of everything for first few weeks then loaded up GT Sport, and well.....99% of PS4 time is now spent on GTS. Barely touch the VR.

The more correct answer to your question is that its 100% worth buying a PS4 purely for sim racing. Some people prefer other games to GTS so you may end up being one of them but if you like racing then I don't think you'll regret buying a ps4. I'd spring for the PRO version if I were you though.

I got PS4 pro and Fanatec wheel/pedals just to play racing games.
Historically the GT series has been my most played set of games on PS over the years.
GT Sport is online play focused, so you have to go into thinking you won’t be winning every race. What you will do, if you put the time in, end up a much better racing sim driver.

I got a PS4 primarily so I wouldn't miss out on GT Sport. I also bought a lot of other games such as Driveclub, Uncharted 4, Dirt Rally and Dirt 4/PCars 2 and several others. So I'd say do it, and take advantage of generous PSN deals on other games. The only games I've bought at full price are Spiderman and Ride 3.

I've played GT4, 5 & 6 quite alot - single player only, cause I couldn't be bothered with the hassle of trying to play online when I only have a short amount of time (in one go) to play.

I've now played around 44,000 miles on GT Sport - and most of this is in the online Sport mode. I enjoy making liveries, taking pictures - but most of all, the online racing. However - not all races are great, but when they are, they are awesome.

Having said that, see if you can try it first.

I bought a PS4 for GTS Beta, but then I knew what I was getting into as I had played every GT up to that point. If you haven't played GT before, then it's obviously more of a risk.

Here is what I did, had PS, then I tried GT, I still remember what a blast it was, couldn't wait for GT2.
When PS2 came, GT3 and 4 were part of my everyday life.
PS3 I bought much later, but it was for the same reason GT.
PS4 I had even before GTS, then I sold it, when GTS was released, few days before I went out and bought PS4, that is me.

Try it somewhere, if you are racing game fan, you will like it, but you will need some time to get used to it, it is different from previous titles, but as days go by, it's better and better value for the money. If you go for digital, you can buy it really cheap these days, maybe even phisical copy can be found cheap...

My opinion? Yes.
I bought a PS2, 3 and now 4 whenever a full GT was released for each. I was hooked on Gran Turismo and have had the disease since.
That you are asking says to me that you have more than a passing interest. It also tells me you probably have the means to afford it. Do it (if it does not hurt you financially). There is a limited amount of time in a day for most people anyway and if there is only time for one, well, GT is a good one.

Again, just my humble opinion...

I think you have to really want it and not just kinda want it.

For me, it was a no-brainer. From the minute I saw the first GT Sport trailer I knew I was getting it. I had sort of been wanting a PS4 for a while anyway, so GT Sport was really the final nail in the coffin.

Just for GT Sport? Not really. It's a great game, but there are plenty of other titles out there too, Horizon Zero Dawn, Driveclub, RDR2, whole bunch of other stuff you can get to go along with it.

Also, go for the PS4 Pro, it's definitely worth the extra cost.

Of course you should........

I got mine last year in the black Friday sales for a great price. I still have not purchased any other games and I play GT Sport daily for at least 2 hours.

^Get one of these if you can find it anywhere.^

:D

I did, and I did the same with the PS3. Both consoles bought purely for Gran Turismo. The only other game I have for the PS4 is Assetto Corso, as it was half price when I bought the PS4.

But, I do use the PS4 as my entertainment hub for music and movies; I have installed the wonderful PLEX app.

I bought my PS3 and PS4 just for GT and have no regrets. I've enjoyed playing other games too, but I would have missed out on them without GT.

In the end video games, are dirt cheap entertainment when you consider the cost per hour and compare that to going to a movie, a night out, a weekend in Vegas, etc... You can justify the expense pretty easily.

If you have the money to cover the up front costs, you've got 100s of hours of entertainment for the next few years.

This became my main reason why I bought a PS3 not more than 5 years ago; to play the real-driving simulator which came out for it almost a decade ago. And I can say that it's my most played game there and I enjoyed it a lot. I still feel a connection to it whenever I play the game until now.

I wonder if I can also do the same in the future, if PD could release another title for maybe the next-gen console. But I hope it's much more enjoyable than ever.
