Should i expect to lose a couple races?

Because I just lost two in the Japan Championship (2nd and 3rd respectively), and I was about ready to give up on this game.

SHOULD i expect to lose?

If you expect to lose, you'll probably lose. You should just try your best and beat whichever events you can. You won't necessarily win every time, but as long as you have money in the bank and a car to race with, you haven't lost the game.

Unless you are an exceptional driver, you will lose a race every now and again.
If this is your second or third time thru the game and you already know what to expect, you will lose less often, but you still won't win all the time.

IF you expect to win every race, you have to be Mr P, Famine, or one of the other exceptional drivers that hang out here.

They lose on occasion, but usually because they are trying to "beat a bear with a switch" (give a crazy handicap to the computer).

IIRC, A-Spec points are like numeric trophies -- you earn what you don't already have until you have the maximum amount. Thus you can always go back to that race and improve your A-Spec score.

So I can go back and kick everyones butt with my newly acquired race car?:nervous::scared:

I mean, I did win the 350Z limited race car.....

But i missed out on some A-Spec points. :(
Just like the Drew Carey version of "Whose line is it, Anyway?"
The points are nearly meaningless.

The point of the a-spec points is to tell you how difficult the race is going to be.

If you are in a race with less than about 100 A-spec points, it SHOULD be a cakewalk.

Over 150, you should have a fine competition, that will require skillful driving, not overwhelming HP and handling.

And no double-posts either, please. If you're still the most recent poster, use the "Edit" button to add to your last post (unless several months have elapsed).

Incidentally, though the praise is appreciated from Gil, I'm not that good. It's true I have a 100% win ratio savegame, but that's only because I researched every part of the game before I raced it - and my aim was to get a minimum-elapsed-time game (see my signature) when I started racing.

As for A-spec points - you can choose whatever level of difficulty you want, by dint of selecting the right tool for the job. Check our 200pt A-Spec club, where racers try to get the maximum amount of points in every race.

I should have stated that Famine, races "smart". Therefore he wins most of the time against the AI

His laptimes are better than mine, all the time, so he is considerably better than this decent "mediocre" driver.

Mr P, however, is at a whole 'nother level.:D

Don't worry about it. Depending your car and AI opposition cars, there are 200 point races that no one can win.

Also, winning 200 p races is something you can leave for when you've won everything else. I only started to do it when I was through with GT4, and it was heaps of fun and a nice new challenge to try to win all races with a 200 p car.

I won only one race in Arcade Mode of GT4, that's only when I toned the difficulty down to -3. Expect to lose races? Absolutely. GT4 is "easy to learn, difficult to master." You certainly need a lot of money to get a prototype to stand a legit chance in the GT World Championship because that Oreca Viper GTS-R isn't going to help you much there. This is probably my worst winning percentage of any GT game I've played at about 77% winning. The races are tough. You have to be even tougher to take on Gran Turismo 4 and win to the best of your ability.

I personally have a bad attitude about losing. So I'm aggressive and even desperate. I only accept failure when I know there's a race I could have won. If I had a good car and raced very well and still lost, then I'll accept defeat. But if I just have too weak a car or just do terrible overall, then that's when I DO NOT accept failure. I thought I was going to fail at racing the final race of the Gran Turismo All-Stars when I'm forced to race a GTP (mine was the Nissan R92CP) around the Nürburgring Nordschleife. I won that race in a blaze of glory.

Expect to lose a few races. Depending on your ideologies, losing only makes you stronger. You could have a "fall x number of times, stand tall x more times" mentality. Expect to lose races in ANY racing game. But remember, the greatest of champions race to win and understand that success or failure is on the line in each and every race. So race to win, and you'll never have to consider the probablity of losing!

Well, I had a healthy Rally race right now.

It was only 8 points, but the Lancer '70 rally car and my Subaru '96 WRX STi (GC) were neck and neck for a while..... Until he went totally horizontal and spun himself out....

Poor guy.

If you're new to the game, just have fun with it. There'll be plenty of time to try for those 200 pointers. Try not to aim too high to start with, you gotta learn the basics first, it'll come to you. Best of luck man

:lol::lol::lol::lol: I'm sorry, but that was funny. :D:D:D:D

Tantric, you CANNOT expect to do this game in one day, THIS IS NOT NEED FOR SPEED!! :D I've personally been playing it since it's release here in Australia (nearly 4yrs) and I STILL can't finish it the way some of the other guys have on here. 👍 Have a look around at the ways people have finished the game technically and also the other ways we keep pushing the boundaries of the game (Maximum speed aka 300mph club challenge, 1000m/400m times, drifting angles, Parity in racing). Use the search engine and look through the sticky threads for the following things:

*Maximum A-spec points.
*Used Car Lists (Famine's one is unbeatable. ;))
*Prize Car Lists
*200pts. A-spec Races
*Tuner Garages

And look through sn00pie & G.T's FAQ's section, if that doesn't spell it all out, nothing will. :D

If really does depend on what you are trying to do.

If you just want to kick the life out of the AI, then no. Example of this would be to take a 500bhp car to the Sunday Cup.

However If you are thinking of joining the A-spec point hunt, yes definately

I lose lots of races. My win / loss ratio is lame. I don't care much about A-Spec points. (But they are a useful guide to difficulty) I'd rather have a good tight race and finish 2nd or 3rd once in a while than to totally blow away the competition. I think I did the Spitfire races 2-4 times each before winning the set. But, I had a great time and my driving got better.

Oh yeah, I'm still having fun.

Enduros are a different story. I go in to win. Something that requires that much time and effort, deserves proper preparation. I haven't done any enduros in GT4 yet.

SHOULD i expect to lose?

Remember this young grasshoppa. NOBODY wins every race. Even the best of the best drivers occasionally lose. Nigel Mansel. Michael Schumacher. Aschenbach. Don't fall into the trap of "I have to win everything" because that's where you'll get frustrated and eventually bored.

And when you go back to race a second time, you can use the lessons you've learned when you lost, to win instead.

you should really listen to these guys, when i first started out on gt4, i was hitting other cars, cutting over the grass and generally finishing every race by either cheating, or crying myself to sleep.

To advance you have to come first in single races, but championship races, you can afford to lose a few, just keep an eye on your points and do the maths, its not uncommon for me to win 7 or 8 races in a championship, and then just skip the last 2 because ive already won.
