Hi folks, as most people know Sky Tv is not cheap as one might expect in the UK.So should tv channels go their separate ways and go on their own ? As could be a lot cheaper to buy and you don't have loads of channels you don't need.Plus you get to choose which channels you want to view.Maybe you can buy a receiver that you can add channels to before you get a subscription code to the channels so you can view it.You could have films directly from Universal Studios, 21st Century Fox etc plus the sports channels like Eurosport, Bt Sport etc. What do you reckon to this idea.

Why shouldn't a TV station be on Sky/Virgin etc.? Granted, something like "UK Conquest" or "North Norfolk Digital" might have a few thousand viewers, but they're on a service provided to millions of homes, and more importantly, millions of potential customers for advertisers. They wouldn't have that reach if they tried going their own way.

What TV channels are you talking about. If you buy a TV licence, which you have to have if you want to watch TV in the uk, then you can watch all the channels that are available on the freeview platform with or without Sky. BT Sport is available without Sky, as is Eurosport via Eurosport player and many new TV's allow you to download the Eurosport player app . What you are really paying for with Sky is the Sky channels and the service they provide via their set top boxes. You can watch the vast majority of the non Sky channels you get with Sky, without the need for Sky. I'm not really sure what point you are making.

If Sky is too expensive, say you're thinking of leaving and they'll offer a cheaper package. Or go to another provider.

My house is doing the exact same and Sky offered a deal of £95 for 12 months which is nowhere near as good as Virgin offering £88 for the equivalent of what we have and more for 12 months.
