Didn't really search beyond the first page, but I didn't see something regarding this specific topic.

Post designs you've done for websites, flash, print, and whatever else fits.

This is a poster I'm making for a film festival. I still don't have the sponsors or the description of it, hence the words won't make much sense... oh and it's in Spanish.

Very nice Diego. 👍

Here are some of mine:

I fell in love with the Stalin one when I first saw it. Amazing typography work. Is the thoughtcrime background a bittbox texture?

what's with the Ys, nitro? It's my favourite.

it's my latest homework. I simply builded a Y shape with using Ys in different kind of fonts. All you need to care is that they dont touch each themselves. must be in a paralel order and some contrast between big/small and dark/bright

btw I'm gonna meet Miles Newlyn march 16.He's a typomaster

I'm thinking of minoring in Graphic Design but I still haven't decided if it would be worth it.

F1GTR, I love the liveliness of the Battle of LA print. I'd buy that as a poster.

Thanks Diego, the texture is just one I found on google's image search.
I love that work you did F1GTR.

Thanks guys, I'm considering doing Art & Design, but I'd have to make a portfolio as I haven't taken art for my GCSEs...

I had taken zero art courses or lessons prior to applying to my school. I had a strong portfolio and they saw past the lack of institutional education and granted me early acceptance. Just go in with a broad, diverse portfolio so they can see your creative outlook and you shouldn't have any problems. You've got a great look to your work as it is, but that graphic work alone won't necessarily get you in.

also, don't take more than ten different pieces... and like exigeracer said, make them as broad and different as possible. If you have experience with different programs (Illustrator, Photoshop, FreeHand, 3D) take them too. Even if you're a Photoshop master and your pieces in it are breathtaking, while your 3D techniques suck, take something you've done in 3D, just so they can see that you're not afraid to leave the 'comfort zone' and that you can diversify.

The focus is on your creative abilities. They can teach you technique and how to work programs or other media, but they can't teach you to be creative. That is already in you, and they're looking for the ones who have it and the ones who don't. I have a friend who got accepted into a good architecture program and he had some tasteful music that he composed as part of his portfolio and they loved it.

Thanks for the great advice Diego and exigeracer, your tips are definitely pointing me in the right direction. Time to get cracking on other styles and disciplines!

with education, and a job for that matter, they arent necessarily looking for super amazing skill, they are looking to see whether they can actually work with you and help you with any potential. they also want a willing to learn and confidence in skill but not too much, a huge ego and complacent attitude is a big no-no :P most importantly you need a genuine passion and interest, being creative should be an enjoyment and if you live and breathe it it shouldnt be a problem :P

inter-program work also helps... I do many of my designs in Illustrator and later open them on Photoshop... works wonders when making 3D things look more 3D.

I hate illustrator. it's slow and so buggy.makes me angry everytime :)
I like photoshop and freehand.

I on the other hand would like to learn and make a great piece of work using illustrator, kinda tired of raster graphics, i love the Crisp lines vectors can make

AI is nice and useful. no doubt!
but works a bit heavy IMO. I will take a course about 3dsmax this summer. I hope I can success

I for one am a FreeHand hater... I swear if my work depended only on FH and Corel, I'd stick to being a copywriter and not have to leave the MSWord comfort zone.

AI is great, especially if you're used to working on other Adobe products... that's also how I learned how to use Flash. And I've only had proper training for Photoshop, the rest have been through work and practise.

i taught myself on photoshop for years but for a while i didnt quite figure out how to use illustrator and didnt like it but now i prob use it more than photoshop. and InDesign was quite easy to learn after that too

surprisingly i can do a decent job on Flash and Ps but not on Illustrator, lol it's like new to me, i dont even know the purpose of a 'sublayer'

I don't really like the 1st one because it looks likea Collage and i dont like collages.

The 2nd one is interesting, Explain the Purpose and Significance please.

Maybe this is a stupid question but gonna ask anyways,

Is there a topic to show own made movies (well i did the editing) ?

Also made some wallpapers, not so good as all youre works though ...

Not bad... although mebbe we're looking for something on a more professional basis here... or with a more "published" status.

I doubt there's a forum of own made videos, though you could do a search and if nothing comes up, make a thread about it.
