G110. Those screen ones are gimmicky BS. The keyboard is under my desk anyway.

I wish there was a mechanical keyboard that lit up and didn't have that stupid enter key that looks like a tetris piece.

edit: Oh, and cost less than $50. Just found two but they're $120.

I got an X4 the other month. It's not mechanical but has a decent click, kinda like a laptop, a non tetis enter key, back lit, and under $50.

Also you can press 26 buttons at a time. Cause when 25 just isn't enough...

---

Also just found out, when you type "X4" into Amazon. The #1 hit isn't what I expected...

I got mine for half that. Looks like just another rubber dome or scissor actuator mechanism.

Also, lmao @ the X4.

It doesn't work.

Er... Never mind.

My latest purchases:

2 undercabinet lights courtesy one of the lighting reps that come into work

wired into an occupancy sensor

that is plugged into a timer

Gives me automatic light in the living room whenever we walk in, but only from 6:30am-8:00am and 7:00pm-11:00pm. Trying to fish wires down the wall and across the ceiling to a regular switch would have been an absolute pain and a wireless switch couldn't be mounted in a 3 gang box with my other light switches, so I went the automatic route. I still need to finish wiring it all up, but the first dry run went perfectly.

I'm always interested in home automation, and have been thinking about something similar. That sounds like a great idea. I play around a bit with AMX systems at work, but unfortunately my work's budget is slighter higher than my personal one...

I was considering something from X10 or Insteon but my wife didn't want the lights controlled with our Harmony remote.* :grumpy:

All in, not counting the lights themselves thanks to the aforementioned lighting rep, I'm at about $50 for the parts and it'll likely take me about an hour to get it all wired up and working. I didn't think that was too bad.

*Despite the fact that she loves only having the one remote instead of the 4 I had before.

 Typical woman.

Did she have any particular reason? Because I honestly can't think of one myself.

Women don't understand and until they see something implemented. My GF wondered why I was creating a HTPC, and thought it was a stupid idea. Now I've got half way through ripping all our DVDs and TV shows, and showed her she can just like go on the web like any other PC. I don't think she could live without it.

The guy that installs our AMX systems is a massive nerd and has a set-up at his house. It's ridiculous. Motorized projector screen, all his equipement, lights and air-con hooked up. Even a web-cam to see into his house. The most impressive thing was during a 40C+ day over the summer, he connected to his system from work, checked the temperature in his house and started the air-con in his main room so it'd be cool on his way back. Makes a 5 figure system worth it right there....

\/ This.

When I first brought up the idea of getting a TiVo from a coworker (we were VCR taping a TV show while watching another, trying to keep the tapes organized, etc. Headache), she resisted and then decided it couldn't be any worse than the VCR. After a few months, it quit working. She practically begged me to buy a new one. And now we're on our third...

Classic case of WAF - wife approval factor.

I did the same thing with the kids' movies on the PS3 and once I finish up our movies I'm guessing she'll like that as much as the TiVo and Netflix.

That sounds completely over the top. Which means it's awesome. Puts my little project to shame.

The people at work give me crap that my remote needs to turn on the TV, dim the lights and crank the THX intro every time I touch it.

Been to Belgium after not having seen my family for 3 years. On Thursday we went to the Autoworld and Aviation museums in Brussels. When we were done with them I went into the store and bumped into an awesome 911 GT2 model:

1-18-ut-1996-porsche-911-gt2-evo-stp-74-daytona_370415038033.jpg

I couldn't find a larger picture on the web, but it'll have to do. The store owner even congratulated me on purchasing a UT Models product because apparently UT Models no longer exists and thus these models were no longer produced.

Now that I'm back in Norway I wish I would've purchased the 911 GT1 model at the same time. Was originally hoping to bump into a Toyota TS020 or any other Toyota Le Mans prototype, but sadly there weren't any to be found.

It's my first model in many years. I had a '00 Audi R8 Le Mans model until my young brother played with it, dropped it, and it shattered into a million pieces.

UT Models stopped a long time ago. Some of the McLarens and 911 GT1's are super rare and can go for well over £100. Which 911 GT1 was it if you can remember?

A-DATA C702 16GB Flash Drive - $26.99:

Bought the flash drive for a friend of mine since his 4GB and 16GB flash drives crapped out on him months ago. Pretty good for the price and it will last him for quite a while.

Yep. We got an HDTV. She didn't know why it was necessary, but I wanted it for my PS3. I got it and set it up. We watched some movies on the PS3 and then flipped to TV and she asked, "What's wrong with the cable?" Two days later, "Do you think we should get digital cable?" Now we are getting ready to switch to Dish for the DVR and HD.

So, if you're just sitting there, reading or watching TV or somesuch, do you have to wave your arm every now and then?
The living room is for TV and TV related activities. There is no reading in the living room. Thank you.

The living room is for TV...

:dopey:

I have the occupancy sensor set for 5 minutes. If we happen to be breaking the rule above and are playing with Lego bricks (!) or a board game, the chances of a 6 and 4 year old sitting still for 5 minutes to not re-trip the lights is pretty slim.

Conversely, if I happen to be watching Pride and Prejudice on BluRay and don't move for said 5 minutes and the lights turn off, that's fine because that'll make it easier to sleep.

After we bought the HD TiVo, I knew I was golden when we started watching CSI and they were doing their fly-in over the city and my wife simply said "Wow."

"Wow what?" asks I.

*sheepish look* "Nothing."

*smirks*

I got this a week or so ago:

Canon_EF_70-200mm_F4L_IS_540x379.jpg

EF 70-200mm F/4L IS

Very pleased with the results with it so far. Spent a month agonizing over getting this or the non-IS 70-200 f/2.8. I think I made the right choice, but now I want to save up for a 100-400mm zoom as well.... yep, definitely crazy,

33-704-040-Z01

New WLAN card because my current one is frustrating the hell out of me. This one is Wireless N, too.

22-152-185-TS

Another 1TB Samsung F3 drive to store media and stuff on (such as Fraps recordings) :)

I love my EF 100-400 when shooting animals, awesome quality! However it is useless for shooting people when using indoor. Maybe you should consider the new EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6L IS, which is lighter to carry around.

I love my 70-200 F/4L. I use it all the time when I'm not up close, unless I want close upshots. Can't wait to try it on my new camera.

I was looking at the new 70-300 L as well, but the variable wide open aperture and extending barrel kinda turned me away from it. Was looking at getting a 400mm prime eventually also, but no IS and sometimes 400mm is just too long on crop-sensors. The 100-400 is nice in that regard as you can "zoom-back" to 100mm. 70-200 f/2.8 would have meant faster shutter speeds but its heavier than the f/4, which probably would make my hands shake more, especially at 200mm.

Excuse me for a moment while I go insane again.

[insane laughter]

Hheheheheheheheh. Hahahahahahahahahahahha! Whahahahahhahahaha!

[/insane laughter]

Ah, all better now.

I like the pictures I've taken so far with it so thankfully I'm not in a nuthouse somewhere.

How much did you pay for the drive? Looking for one for the PS3 at the moment, and even one for the new macbook pro next year.

And 1TB 2.5" drives won't fit in the PS3 either.

I bought one o' these:

A.K.A. PSP #4.

Gonna see if I can find a normal red battery door, though.
