Major unplanned desk overhaul today. Got up this morning and my four year old Apple 24" monitor was dead. Took it in to be looked at it and a replacement panel is over $600, so it was time to go shopping for a more normal replacement monitor. Ended up with this $180 IPS ASUS. It's actually a pretty nice monitor for the money, and color reproduction and viewing angles compare pretty well to the Apple.

Excuse my incredibly weeaboo desk, haha. I'm super secretive about my otaku inclinations in my everyday life but I can't keep it under wraps at home lol.

I also had to get some speakers, since I'd been using the ones built into my old monitor. I also picked the Logitech mouse up to replace my trashed Razer, which was really nasty because the rubber coating was all peeling off after a few years. You could almost think I had a normal PC setup if it weren't for the keyboard now.

Looks like it says Guano.

Nope. It says Iguana. It's an Iguana Papa Candela Churchill. It was not bad.

SimCarbon 3D CF vinyl

24"x60"

I decided that a custom paint would be much to expensive and time consuming so I decided to go an alternate route. I'm going to use it for a PC case mod and save the leftovers for whatever I need. Much cheaper than 3M's vinyl and from all the reviews I read a heck of a lot easier to work with.

It may be cheaper than 3M but nothing beats the quality of 3M's vinyl.

How much did you buy it for i might get one for filming under my skateboard but it might hit the ground and how long is it approximately?

I ordered it from a Dutch online store for €290.

1.6” x 2.4” x 1.2” (42mm x 60mm x 30mm) (height x width x depth)

How's their shipping and warranty? Haven't bought anything from them yet.

And just so that I can't be accused of off-topic, here's something I purchased today:

It's soooooooooooooooooooooo good.

^Damn I ordered mine 2 weeks before the announcement of the hero3.
Ordered the wifi bac for xmas now.
Well I only paid 244 for mine, so it's not that bad.

I bet the hero4 will be here soon. so good choice going with the 2 and not 3.

I've been wanting a GoPro for ages but don't have too much use for one right now, haha. I'd love to do some driving videos once I move close to good roads again. I really want to do ski videos but I suck too much at skiing to justify it lol.

Just bought a Dakota 24mm Leather Band for my watch today to replace the fake and broken faux leather band. Cost me $18.14 after taxes and fitting it to the watch was free.

I also bought a gallon of washer fluid for $3.19. Used up the entire gallon filling up my car and the store clerk gave me a confused face when I asked him if he could take care of the empty bottle. He just did not know that they could recycle them.

Finally went out and got a tripod. Was marked up for $69 at Wal-Mart, was actually $29. Not bad, I wanted one so my wrists aren't killing me after events.

Needed some reading material. It was this or stupid gossip magazines.

Is that a sturdy tripod for your DSLR? I'm looking to get one and I won't use it enough to justify spending a lot of money.

Best way to know is to go down to a camera shop and try out some tripods. Try tapping it down and see how stable it is when you adjust it. Also check with family and friends; I got 80's professional tripod for $40 and it was in really good condition. Weighs 16 pounds and pretty stable. The metal 3-way heads are awesome compared to the plastic 3-way heads(smoother and easier to use). It was originally meant to hold VHS Camcorders and in the past he used to record on a VHS camcorder with the tripod for church. It is a SV Kenlock tripod, like this one but with wheels and could get as tall as 74".

I do recommend getting a quick mount piece so you can quickly remove your camera for a a shot you can't get with the tripod.

Seems good enough. Only issue I have right now is that when I go to raise the center, it just seems to slide on back down. Might rig something up for it, or I just haven't found out how to yet. I just can't justify spending $100+ for one when I'm also building my Legacy on the side. (Slowly assembling parts for that too!)

This is probably the best idea. I picked it up because I'm cheap with stuff like this (due to car build, hah) My camera is 6 years old now, and I only paid $60 for it. I can take better shots then my friends who all have the latest and greatest cameras... then again, I actually know how to use mine... well, somewhat.

I've learned with tri-pods that you get what you pay for. And generally, they all do their job at first. Months to a year later is when their use starts to degrade & you see the build quality.

If you're not pursuing photography beyond snap-and-shoot or as a general hobby, cheap trip-pods will get the job done. However, even if you're only using it every so often, but will still rely on it for serious shots, buy something worth the price. Sphili, I know you must have a pretty decent DSLR, so I wouldn't place it on any tri-pod under $100; it deserves better.

I'd suggest Manfrotto. Prices will be up there, but remember they go way beyond that up to $300+.

Check Costco. They often have pretty good deals on reasonably nice tripods. Look for independent round legs (without that brace thingy between the legs and center column) and a ball head if you're using the tripod for still photography.

You can get some pretty good deals on Carbon Fiber tripods from Chinese brands these days, too. Small ones can be in the $100 range. If weight isn't an issue, the classic Tiltall is always an option too. Going too big and heavy is generally better than going too small and light with a tripod, as the weight helps prevent vibrations, and is part of why the generic aluminum and plastic camcorder tripods from electronics stores or wherever generally aren't a great idea.

Looking at Costco's site, they have two Dolica tripods that are probably pretty decent for the money. The cheaper one would be good for a mirrorless camera or a small DSLR (Rebel-60D or D3100-7000) with small lenses, the bigger one would be appropriate for a larger camera with f/4 and maybe f/2.8 glass. If you have a full-size body (1D, D3/4) and big lenses, you probably should get a real tripod rig, it's a fraction of the cost of the rest of the gear and makes a huge difference in performance and usability. I used to be a total tripod hater, but since buying my Feisol legs and Photo Clam head, I look for opportunities to use my setup. The downside is price, of course, which ended up around $750 with fitted quick release plates for my D3 and 70-200.

Me and My Katamari

Sonic's Ultimate (Megadrive) Genesis Collection

WipEout Pure

all for the PSP. $15 took 'em.

Earlier got a custom clear housing for my PSP, and I seriously screwed it up because it's still not in the housing and my screen is shot. :grumpy: :grumpy: :grumpy:...

I ordered this couple days ago and it was delivered yesterday :)
10e not bad since it's "only" 30 years old

Just given this 7 month old Bearded Dragon (plus 4' vivarium) a new home as the one he was in didn't have time to look after him. He's a bit grumpy and hasn't been handled much but he'll get plenty of attention at my house plus he'll mellow once he stops being a teenager. ;)

Just trying to come up with a good name. He's Australian, slightly grumpy and, well... a dragon. Here's our shortlist:

1) Rango
2) Puff
3) Idris - this is my favourite (Idris the Dragon from Ivor the Engine in the 70s)
4) Admiral Akbar
5) Darth Maul
6) Bernie
7) Dion

I have a feeling one of the kids will get their way. We shall see.
