Ok, so I guess this could belong in "any" part of the forums, as it relates to all aspects, PS3, GT5 and GT6. :(
My PS3 has finally decided it doesn't want to be part of my gaming life any longer. Well, not a full participant anyways. :ouch:
It's an Aussie issue 320GB (CECH-2502B) and it no longer loads/reads discs (games). :grumpy:
All other functions appear to be unaffected, my Sony log-in still works, plus a couple of games I downloaded.
I guess it's the dreaded YLOD, even though this particular system has no yellow light.

My predicament now sits at this.....
Do I bite the bullet and buy a new PS3 now?
Continue "as is" and just not worry about GT5 for now..and just download the GT6 demo when it arrives..

I'm eager to see if we get a GT6/PS3 bundle later this year..(hoping :)) Maybe I can hold out that long......

Get another, then you could have a two screen setup with another telly. I assume it's possible to set up with just 1 gt5 disk

Edit: forget that, you need the same number of gt5 discs as screens/ps3

Flip it on it's side and see if they will play. It is repairable and will be cheaper than buying a new one. Then again, you could sell off your entire PS3 game collection (you won't be needing it anymore) and prepare for a PS4.

In Feb, my wife bought me a $300 500gb white model that came with 1yr of Plus and a couple of digital games, and a 2yr warranty.

@OP
If this is what is going in.

So your PS3 will not read any disc?

Is that the only problem?

The try this. Follow each step don't skip any steps. This might fix your problem.

Fat model PS3s
1. Take any USBs flash drives and disc out of the ps3 then turn the ps3 off.
2.Then flip power switch on the back
3. Then hold your finger on the EJECT button and while holding your finger on the eject button flip the power switch.
On a slim model PS3.
Slim model
1. Take your USBs and disc out of the ps3 and turn it off.
2. Then unplug the cord.
3. Then press and hold the eject button down and plug it back in while holding your finger on that button.
4. (last step for both PS3s)
The fan will review really high for about 30 seconds and the system may beep a couple times (i have a fat model and it does it should on the slim but i am not sure) after the fan stops flip the switch on the back of the ps3 (fat model) or unplug and plug ps3 back in (slim model) then turn system on like normal

Or you can take the PS3 apart the PS3 and clean the lens. Which if it is not under warranty would be a good thing to do.

How old is yours? I have the same model as yours and it has been working fine since September 2010

I'd be surprised if they didn't release a bundle for GT6. As for GT5, there have been several bundles released with GT5 included, and one that was rumored shortly before GT6 was announced-called he Legacy Bundle.
If the Legacy bundle did come out, I would buy that. Oherwise, just wait until the PS4 comes out (and play the GT6 demo in the meantime)

Hey guys,

Thanks for the feedback and offers of solution. :)

@ Lock2Lock,
Yes, it is only the not reading discs that appears to be the issue. :grumpy:
A "good clean" is most definitely on my agenda for it. My house does accumulate an abnormal amount of dust, and the environment the PS3 is in (storage cabinet - open front, below TV) probably isn't helping. :dunce:

@ Inferno251,
Yes, we would be around the same vintage. Mine was purchased on GT5's release day. :) This is the first sign of trouble with mine.
I may still look at a bundle closer to GT6 release....start with everything fresh. :sly:
I'd be dangerous if my currant console passed away only weeks into GT6. :banghead:

Update....
Ok, last night it worked.
Most likely an even stronger indication that it needs cleaning. :embarrassed:
This passed week I have attempted to load several times per night, all with the same outcome.
Friday night/arvo I left it "unplugged" from the power for 24 hours.
Still, after re-connecting it was not until the 3rd eject/load that it fired up. :indiff:

Cleaning will commence today. :)
Cheers guys

Try what I posted above. It should solve the problem for now at least

It is common for JUST the Blu-Ray drive to go out, try a regular DVD to confirm this if you don't mind. After that you can easily buy and replace it with parts from eBay.. It's rather cheap and rather easy 👍
