Well met everyone. Welcome to Silver Dragon Gaming GT, Tuning garage.

The Silver Dragons are a group of gamers spanning across the world who have come together as one team. You will find the dragons are not your typical hodge-podge of individuals who happen to play the same game, rather the dragons are a very close group of friends who all share the same common mindset of not only excelling at any game we play; but to do so with the highest moral values. We do not berate others, we do not needlessly talk trash - we win and lose gracefully.

We would like to apologize for the great delay in garage updates real life has held up @Otaliema from updating the garage here. Also he has been busy with the last FITT challenge and is actively planning the next challenge.

We are live and actively recruiting for the team at this time if you think you might be interested in joining please visit us.

We do have a GT5 garage and anyone is welcome to check out the tunes we have available at this time. The garage is not very active as most of our active tuners have shifted to GT6

The Garage will be broken down by country of origin once we get some more tunes up. Right now it's so small it's not needed.

All results below where for game vers 1.08 retesting is in progress to see if any changes have occurred, it is known that the Stingray is slower than before due to changes in the way FR operate.
Aero Kit testing.
We did some testing with aero kits we are still in the process of testing the various effects but here is what we have thus far.
Using a Corvette Stingray '14 633 PP 896 hp 1260 kg 49:51 weight distrobution we tested the affects of top speed on the car the various aero kits avalebile for the car, All test done at SSR-X Manual transmission ABS 1 only aid active.

From what we are seeing it seems that the aero kits front or back reduce Top speed by about 1% no matter what even in combo. The flat floor reduces top speed by about 13%
It also seems the effects do not stack, the larger of the two takes precedence for the speed reduction.
We will be testing the affects of the kits on a non top speed driven tracks to see if they reduction in speed is made up for in turning ability on the car.

Silver Dragon Transmission tuning guide


There are many very good suspension guides already in existence here at GTP, but I noted that most of them had none or very basic transmission sections. So here I will explain everything I have learned about tuning a transmission for GT6.


First I’d like to thank @Motor City Hami Tuning Guide @praiano63 Transmission tuning guide and @Master__Shake_ ¼ mile transmission guide for the guides they have published they got me started and explained what was needed to make a good transmission in GT5 and again in GT6.


There are three main ways to tune a transmission in GT6, Top speed, Acceleration and Race. There are many ways to combine the three to get differing results depending on what you’re looking for from the tune. I use km for speed and distance as they are smaller so it’s easier to get things pinned down.


Torque and Power. Quick definition. Torque gets you going, Power Keeps you going. What this means for gearing, Longer low gears, shorter High gears. The faster you’re going the Power you need to keep going. The slower your going the more torque you need to get going.


There is what’s called flipping your transmission. Basicly your setting your gears for use, Low Final Gear number means each gear is longer but the engine is doing more work per rev to make the car go, but it doesn’t have to turn over as many times to get the car to the same speed as a High Final Gear number. A High Final Gear means the engine is doing less work per rev to make the car go but it has to turn over more times to get the car to the same speed as a Low Final Gear number. What this translates into is this. The lower the Final Gear starting point the faster the car accelerates because the engine is rev’ing less per revolution of the transmission, but the lower the top speed as the engine has to work too hard at higher speed to keep it going. The higher the final gear the the higher your top speed but the slower it accelerates because the engine has to rev more times per revolution of the transmission, but each rev is doing less work allowing it to give more pull at higher speeds.


Now in GT6 your gears are based on the maximum RPM of your car, when adding power be advised that all parts of the following parts add/remove RPM and will affect the gearing of your car.

Engine 100 RPM per level of upgrade.

Sports Computer 200 RPM

Exhaust 100 RPM per level of upgrade

Catalytic Converter 200 RPM

so you can add 800 RPM to your car

Exhaust Manifold and Intake tuning just add power and torque.


Turbo kits and superchargers. These actually move the powerband of the car, so these need to be considered when building your transmission to maximize the acceleration.


Finding the power band of the car. Using the Dyno screen on the left side of the tuning window. look at the power and torque bands. Reset the engine to stock if it’s not already.

Lets grab a MX-5 1600 NR-A (NB, J) ‘04, stock and give it full weight reduction, it will make this easier to have a car to work with.

Take note of the locations that the torque and Power peak at.

The torque band on this car is pretty flat for a street car. The power band is very peaky which is common. They cross at about 7k RPM. If you’re not sure about the RPM they are crossing at, do the follow.

Goto Arcade time trial, world courses Indianapolis Motor Speedway. reason it’s short and has 1006 straits and banked turns so you can carry speed.

Set the transmission as follows on a stock engine.

Final Gear 5.500, Top speed 400 km/h 1st-4th and far left than final gear to 2.500, this sets the gears as long as possible this will allow you take notes on where the power kicks in on the car, go do a lap, note the red line on the car it’s 7200 RPM max RPM is 8000 RPM, this is important. Now after you get control come to a full stop and then floor it, do not e-brake it let it take off from idle. Watch your speed and tach, you will see thats a nice steady acceleration all the way to about 5.5k then a slight boost to redline, if you shift into 2nd gear you start to lose speed as the power is not high enough at 4k RPM on this car to keep it going at 200 km/h. I bet a 2nd gear at 5.5k RPM will do the trick. lets test that. Set 2nd gear to 1.100, drops to much 5k rpm still accelerating but not enough, set 2nd gear to 1.200, now it’s only going down to 6k RPM, no problem see the pull it still has even at 195 km/h. Set 2nd to 1.150, there perfect 5.5k RPM on shift at redline. pulls well even at near 200 km/h. Not bad for a car that only has 123 HP. We now know that the the cross over point on the torque and power is right about 5.5k RPM, Take note of it’s location on the Dyno screen. Now that we know the car as is will cap out at 210 ish km/h let us build!


Transmission type Drag Racing / Acceleration.

Using a low final gear the car will accelerate faster out of turns but will suffer on top speed, good uses for short low-mid speed courses and highly technical courses. Not so good for High speed tracks, you will get to speed faster but will be slower than other transmissions.

Nur, Twin Ring, SSR 5, etc. (yes these are mid speed courses but are mostly technical with slower speed turns making acceleration very important)



Transmission type Top Speed.

Using a High Final Gear the car will accelerate more slowly than the other transmissions but will get to a higher top speed in the end, Not the best option for a short courses or highly technical courses. Good for mid-high speed courses. Daytona, Indy, GVS etc.


Transmission type Racing

Using a mid set Final gear this will give a top speed thats slightly higher than the drag racing but lower than the top speed, the acceleration will be less than the drag racing transmission but more than the top speed. Good for any track with a correctly set final gear for the course. Not the best for most tracks. It is the best for mid speed technical courses like Ascari that are mostly high speed but have low speed turns.


Now to set up a transmission.

using the MX-5 lets do a Acceleration transmission.

Set the final gear to 3.000 this is a low Flip, set the top speed slider to 210 km/h take note of the location of the last gear in the gear window. Got it? good. Now set the Top speed slider to 230 km/h Set 5th gear to 1.350 or short as it will go. Now set Final Gear to 2.500. It should be just a tad further down the box than it was at 210 km/h, this is good means we will still be in the middle of the biggest power band in last gear. Lets go test it real quick to make sure we got it right. Looks like it, See how we have 400 ish RPM left to redline? thats ok because when we look at the Dyno you will see the sharp drop off starting at 7k RPM so we are still in the power. Lets set the rest of the gears. I like to build “backwards” last gear to first. this lets me maximize the power band useage at high speed and torque useage at low speed.

With a low powered light car like the MX-5 and 5 gear transmission, the spacing of the gears will be more than is ideal for this car at high speed but we make it work.

Set the final gear back to 3.000, Lets set 4th gear to 1.684, note how it’s shorter than 5th right now. Now seet 3rd to 2.088, This levels 4th with 5th gear, Set 2nd to 2.645, this leaves 3rd just a bit longer than 4th gear still a lower speed gear so can use more torque, set 1st to 3.622 this leaves 2nd and 3rd evenly spaced. Now set the final gear to 2.500, What you now see is a even set 1st 2nd and 3rd gears with short but longer spaced 4th and 5th gears. Lets go hit the track if we did this right 2nd will land at 5k rpm, 3rd at 5.5k RPM and 4th and 5th will land at 6k RPM with a 7k-7.2k RPM shift. OK, so it looks like the gears are a tad longer than we wanted, about 300 RPM, No problem lets rebuild it, The spacing was good just a tad too long. Lets flip it lower. Set Final gear to 2.950 toggle the top speed slider off and back to 230 km/h, Set 5th to 1.373, 4th 1.692 3rd 2.086, 2nd 2.622, and 1st to 3.610, Final back to 2.500, Better only 100 RPM off of target. We could rebuild one more time with a Final gear flip of 2.925 but I think with this car this is the best are going to get due to only 5 gears. It’s good for a rolling start, Lets check it standing start. Clear the ghost replay, and this time come to a stop with your bumper on the start/finish line. Hold The e-brake floor it and let go of the e-brake we should get some spin but nothing major, see how quick it gets to 5th, Looks like 1st gear is too long for standing starts. 75 m to get to 80km, 900 m to get 2nd to 5th at indy, which when you factor the turns in at 400m and only getting half of your max accel is not bad at all. Use these same principles for any track that you want an acceleration transmission for. Just adjust the Top speed slide to fit the track and the Flip point as needed.


Now lets build a Top speed transmission don’t worry they are much easier to build than an acceleration transmission. Set your Final Gear to 5.500 set your Top Speed to 160 km/h Set each gear to the far right or shortest they will go, the spacing is perfect this way and you’re getting as much mechanical advantage as possible this way. Lets take a shot at the Final gear put it at 3.200 looks like about the same place as the Acceleration transmission. Perfect holding 209 km/h top end. 4km/h faster. Lets check it’s standing start. 0-80km 90 m, 2nd to 5th gear takes 1340m. Now in a short race 3 laps the acceleration transmission would win this one but only just. soon as we get to 4 laps it would lose. Assuming no draft. with draft the Top Speed would win on the first lap.


Lets build a Race transmission now. Set the Final 4.000 this is the dead middle of the Final Gear. 2.500-5.500 3.00 difference half that 1.500. For the MX-5 we can get away with using 180 km/h setting to get to the top speed of 205ish km/h, Now set 5th gear to 1.286, 4th 1.530 3rd 1.882 2nd 2.418 1st 3.301 note the gear spacing is pretty equal and we have a curve up in the gears we have done this to make the acceleration as smooth as we can while giving the most use of each gear to reduce shifting. Set Final gear to 2.500 The key with a racing transmission is to have most of your last gear still available for drafting but still hitting your self sustained top speed in your last gear when the final gear is set to the longest/lowest number. Now lets test this, top speed hit 207 km/h, right in the middle as expected. time to clear the ghost and check the standing start. we should see numbers around 80-85m for 0-80 km, and 1100m 2nd to 5th gear. Looks like 1st gear is a bit off 98m to get to 80 km, 2000m for 2nd 5th gear. Looks like we overstretched the transmission a tiny bit for the testing but otherwise it looks good, because we left drafting room on this transmission that was not on the others, if you want to double check set the final gear to 2.800. So 1st gear is long easily fixed change to 3.384 and 2nd to 2.459 this will improve standing start acceleration.


Now lets toss a monkey wrench into this and put a Mid RPM Turbo on this car.

Now look at what happened to the power band. all the torque is in the middle of the rev range now, meaning the off the line out of turn acceleration will be greatly improved with the Acceleration transmission. with the long 2nd and 3rd gears the power is higher to help with the top end in 4th and 5th. The racing transmission will also benefit from this turbo as well as it has the longer 2nd and 4rd gears as well. The top speed transmission will only gain from the power increase as it spends most of it’s time in the upper rev range of the car. The transmission as is will do well.

Now lets put a High RPM turbo on the car, all the torque and power are in the upper rev range this is ideal for the Top speed transmission, not so good for the acceleration transmission as the mid range that 2nd and 3rd gears operate in are low in torque and power. The Racing transmission will gain on it’s top speed but will suffer on acceleration in 2nd gear, 3rd-5th will be ok as they are shorter and will get back into the power faster.


Now I’m going to cover one more set in this guide, gonna need a different car. This is how to deal with an over powered car on harder tires. Got a Mercdes-Benz AMG VGT? if not grab your highest powered car thats not 4WD. Reset your car to stock settings, and give it full weight reduction. This time we are heading to Apricot Hill Raceway, Now lets just take the car out stock and see what it’s doing. Sport hard tires please. Notice at lower speed corners you’re just lighting the tires up with only a little throttle input? Lets fix that.

We will set up a racing style transmission for this.

Set the Final gear to 4.000, Set TS to 300 km/h, leave 1st gear be, Set 2nd gear to 2.048, set 7th gear to 0.829, now balance 3rd-6th gear based on 2nd and 7th gears. You should end with numbers similar to this 3.244, 2.048, 1.613, 1.327, 1.114, 0.943, 0.829 , lets set the final gear to 3.188 this should give us all gears used with draft room on the front straight and keep the tires from lighting up in the low speed turns not quite right lets set 1st gear all the way right to make 2nd even longer. Much better, this is as close as we are going to get without tuning the car from here.


Now some important information about transmission tuning. The transmission should be one of the last things set up on the car. Develop a Base transmission for each type of transmission you use that way you can toss one on the car at the starting point of tuning, after you have the car nearly fine tuned for handling, fine tune the transmission at this point, this will change some of the handling characteristics of the car, it will affect the springs rate on the drive wheels, and camber settings. it can have an impact on the LSD for the car. The aero settings *if applicable* will have an impact on the transmission as that affects top speed and acceleration of the car. So once you have your near final transmission made you will probably need to re fine tune the car again to adjust the effects of proper gearing. Or it may smooth out some issues with the car.


I did not cover Drag racing transmission as the guide written by @Master__Shake_ covers everything you need to know there. The acceleration transmission is very similar to a drag racing transmission with one major difference, the speed of the transmission, it’s much higher with the acceleration transmission as your building to cover a full track and not just a ¼ mile.


The racing Transmission is nearly identical to the ones built by @praiano63, I just use a different gearing mode that is not a focused on the power band of the car as I have found it’s not always the best for a car. If you have lots of power and torque with a sharp drop off, than longer gears in the low range and shorter in the high range will get more out of the car than a power band focused gearing.

@Motor City Hami uses a combination of Top speed and racing for his transmission, they ae effective and have great versatility for track usage. They don't have the same top en pull that a top speed has or the get up and go as a acceleration type.

I mentioned at the start of this guide there are many ways to combine the base methods, and there are. Experiment with the flip point, the gearing style to get the most of a particular car. some cars respond extremely well to a Acceleration final gear set up with a top speed gearing style. and vice versa. Sometimes you need the spacing of a race transmission but need the get up and go of a Acceleration type.

Tuned up a BMW Concept Series 1 tii '07 to 500 for the one make race.
Easy easy win. very easy to up this puppy to 550 and take on the turbo in national a cake walk wins.
 
Tune up for the Scirocco Seasonal, it's a modification from the tune Banditkarter posted used with approval.
Also have a in house tune done that has full aero upgrades

Liquid Light tuned up the AMG VGT to a driver a freindly 650, it's not a gonna set WR time, but rather keep it on the track tune, Check it out.
 
Tried your NSX Type S tune out, and loved it. Stable and quick enough to enjoy and pick up a decent time. 👍👍:cheers:

Sounds like a plan. I'm currently working on up-scaling the seasonal tunes so they can be used in career mode. continuing the line of use the free cars till you can afford what ever you want.

Your 86 GT tune actually slowed me down....was in the very low 40's, then tried your tune...consistent 41's. I am by no means a great driver on here...but first time I actually had a tune slow me down....was using the stock, hard racing suspension and LSD. Tranny was full custom...set at 130 mph, 1st stage weight reduction and actually a little less hp....anyway just thought I would share my findings with you...thanks for the info...hopefully it work for others better than it did for me.

Sorry to hear that it slowed you down, I'll look at the tune and see if I can figure out what was causing the problem

I did some more testing, by chance I discovered by adding areo "upgrades" you're actually slowing down the car significantly. For example. Stock power, with racing exhaust no oil change on Daytona...roughly 59.5's...adding power like computer sport, engine tune 1st stage, clutch upgrades etc...power at around 280hp, you would think the lap times would go down significantly...was having a hard time breaking a minute....remove the areo upgrades (which provides no adjustable down force) and I am now mod 54's....and producing some 20 mph difference in the back stretch

I have learned a lot on the last couple seasonal races on how to tune a under steering car so the next TT should have much better results for times

Exactly! I was playing with my son....and I couldn't figure out for the life of me what was up....never thought by putting on a stock aero would slow down a car so much....I know when you add aero to race cars it will slow you down on your top end....but that's when you add full down force, front and back.....this aero is not adjustable and you assume its a minimal effect....anyway its all good...its what makes this game so interesting.

The announced Corvette Stingray C7 has been compleated for 2/3 of tunes. the 550pp and 600 pp tunes are done.
The full bore 635 (no aero) tune is in the works.
 
Gonna need to try out the Lambo quickly before I can't log a time anymore. :indiff:
iit will get you gold and maybe a bit more, been too busy with FITT to update it or even try ghana race yet. have fun with it, lay it out light em up and push it hard, if it ain't talking to ya your going hard enough.
