I am surprised they both rated the physics this highly, I thought I am in the minority who thinks that the physics engine underneath is actually really decent.

and I want a decent PC so bad now.

It's likely the rating it received was because of how well known the game engine is. Even with all of the bass-ackwards modifications they made underneath it all is still gMotor2. And it simulates a lot of things that no other console racer simulates as well, or to the same degree (with some exceptions), it even simulates certain aspects that are, at this point, unique to Unleashed.

In fact I've always wondered if there was a way to essentially 'unlock' the full capacity of the engine. Dammit, now I want to play GTR2.

good thing they mention this is not the full review and that there's a patch coming. this game deserves more credit despite its quirks (for now)

The game would of been immense if they made Standard/Loaner cars handle properly, Also having to upgrade cars and tune them once bought has turned away alot of people that bought the game.

Hopefully a patch from SMS will change the setup's for the loaner cars as currently 80% of them handle like the Lotus on GT5 which is not good.

I highly doubt they will change the loner cars will change if someone bought this game no thinking they wouldnt have to mod the cars from the start maybe they should play Need for speed hot pursuit instead

Nice review overall. I cannot believe what they said about the AI - I played GT5 for two months and have been playing Shift 2 for almost 3 weeks, and saying the AI in Shift 2 "might" be a little better than in GT5 is like saying the PS3 "might" be a little more powerful than the PS1. There's literally no comparison whatsoever.

The force feedback could use some work - the environmental stuff is good but it doesn't give you much idea of how much grip your tires have, which is really the primary purpose of force feedback.

The oversteer in the corners needs to be fixed as well. Not that there shouldn't be any oversteer obviously, but it's overdone.

Overall though I'm having a fantastic time with this game; loving it more and more every day I play it.

I agree with this post. 👍

I don't. some cars need tweaking but as I said on another post today, I went back to do the first races (autolog 👍)

I've found difficult the lotus challenge but I have to say it was real easy now that i've play some fast cars. I still can't handle the lotus on GT5...

As I also said, in that post, I even rebooted between the 2nd and 3rd attempts just to see if i've hit some but that could've bring FFB or whatever.

I'm not saying its perfect or even good (never drove the car so..) but still its a lot easier than most think (me included until yesterday). Give it a try after you played the game a bit further.

LFA challenge is another example. Or the Corvette vs GT40 Shodown. There are cars difficult to handle but it doesn't mean its poorly done. Maybe that's how the cars are (keep in mind i'm talking about a game so REAL will NEVER apply)

I use a G27... pad users excuse me if i'm saying something wrong (more than likely)

Well.. every car *NEEDS* at least a 'steering lock' adjustment to make it competitive with a controller. I need to dial it down to ~10 to make the handling feel right. Anything higher just makes cars feel unnaturally twitchy and difficult to control.

So either they move this setting to the global controller settings (which would make sense to me, because I don't see how this is a car-specific setting) or they make loaner cars tunable.

Yeah i found the Lotus handled quite well im not so sure why so many had a problem with it as it was incredibly easy to handle compared to the GT5 Lotus, however there are loaner cars that feel as if your driving a sponge on ice.

Glad to see them rate the physics well. It's not perfect of course, but what is?

I played GTR2 before I got into Gran Turismo, and Shift reminds me of the essence of GTR2, probably why I didn't have the difficulty adjusting that some have.

I have different steering locks for the same car at different tracks so i have to disagree to see that as a global parameter.

I also enjoyed the Exige in Shift 2, nearly as much as I do the 111R in GT5. In fact, it's probably my favorite car in the game, as is GT5's 111R, and I'm constantly surprised by how many detractors they have on these here forums.

Agreed, it does have that touch of GTR2 or GTL feel about it

Roll on the Legends pack DLC, for that GTL experience on console (sort of, maybe)

Thought it was a good preview; I agree with all of their points (AI spearing the player - super aggressive, nice physics, fun game, good career, autolog, etc). Super challenging game with some rough spots here & there.

Good to see they got the PC version like I did. The smooth FPS is nothing but WIN 👍

in the SimRacingTonight video there was a sort of tearing on the screen.. What was that? Is it normal?
(from 2.48 )

I'd imagine that has something to do w/ the way they captured the video. I've seen it repeatedly in quite a few user-made videos lately.
