Pfft. With the passenger seat reclined and the rear seats split I put a 7 foot ladder into a Ford Fiesta (not Ford Festiva - different car), and my girlfriend sat in the back, and that's only 11'5" long in total. And I put a 6 foot Christmas tree into the MX-3 without going near the front seats.

I know, the stuff you can put into a fiesta. But you can't put the same plank of wood in a Lexus IS200. :D

That comes from experience when your parents phone you to drive down to the local B&Q's.

Mr. Chaser, you kind of misquoted there, buddy. You put your name in the "Originally Posted by..." part.

Anyhow, I love full-bodied cars and the speed demons. But there are some small cars that can still provide as much excitement as any of them, even if you don't have a car that can run Mulsanne at 180 mph. Now someone mentioned an automobile called the Toyota Pickup from 1993. You have any pictures of it? The Mini Cooper has kind of been considered one of the greatest tiny cars ever. Who knows? Maybe if one can be modified with four-wheel drive with a Stage 1 or a Stage 2 turbo, racing intercooler, and some dirt tires, it might make a cool rally car. And I'm referring to the ones of today. Then again, if Mini returned to World Rally, it would probably be banned for its small size or whatever. But I have seen British Rally coverage on Speed Channel's "Motorsport Mundial." I've seen the Ford Puma race around the British Isles. These Kei machines are pretty cool. They cost less, may have less horsepower, but their handling is doggone near F1 cars, just 3-5 times less of a top speed.

Thanks for pointing that out. Proof that the phrase 'if you want something done properly, do it yourself', isn't always true.

Yeah, just like the Cooper's were banned in the 60s!

Yeah, the works version of the Mini in GT2 was pretty cool. I mean, 239hps for a tiny car. May not be a monstrousity, but when you think about it, what's the smallest car in which you can make blisteringly fast speeds and/or heavy horses. Horsepower is an American tradition and if you can get horses from a small machine, you're pretty cool. The ultimate sleeper. A tiny terror. Now go make it happen.

To add to the commentary about the Mini Cooper of today, here is what was mentioned by Speed Channel show "Tuner Transformation" earlier this week:

(From: "Tuner Transformation," March 30, 2004)
SPORT COMPACT LIFESTYLE

"Feature films like 'Austin Powers' and 'The Italian Job,' have made the Mini Cooper S one of the trendiest rides on the road. And though the design of the Mini may be small, thanks to a gent by the name of John Cooper, this pocket rocket packs a powerful punch. (another person, unknown) 'Not everyone knows who John Cooper is. John Cooper would be considered a... a Formula One, uh, pioneer from his days in '59 and '60 when he commissioned racing cars for Formula One. Form there, John Cooper went on to look at what he could do with something that was more street-worthy. Um, at the time, the Mini had just been introduced in 1959, and it was known to be able to handle very well, might be a little light on horsepower, but he took care of that. Not too many car manufacuturers are getting into, if you will, tuner cars. And if they do, they sometimes put limitations on the warranties and here we been very firm in believing that it's got to stand up to the rigors and what the car was designed to do, and meet the warranty."

I still think the Mini is perhaps the coolest small car in the world. It can be tuned for 160hps, it is the only other high-horsepower small car other than the 190hp Tommy kaira ZZ-S or, of course, the 190-something Lotus Elise. I been wanting to resurrect "Small Talk" just to make the preceding comment on the Mini.

Well, my small car favourites (all available in the UK) are...
corsa1.jpg

... the Vauxhall Corsa (my first car was one of these, a Corsa SXi 1.2 16v, not a big engine, not very fast, but still alot of fun to drive).

Also...
vauxhalltigra.jpg

... the Vauxhall Tigra, basically a sporty looking Corsa, but with 1.4 and 1.6 litre engines, and still fun to drive but pretty quick.

And finally, the car I'm about to buy...
007__scaled_600_006.jpg

... the Seat Ibiza FR, which has either the 1.8T or 1.9TDi(130bhp) Volkswagen group engines (personnally, I'm going for the TDi).

The Mini (the original, not the BMW Mini) is great, but I've never driven one, and while I know they are fun to drive, they are just too small for everyday use when its your only car.

On what planet? The 1.6i has 106hp, and covers 0-60mph in 9.5s. It gets worse in the bends too, because it's basically a Corsa - non-independant rear suspension and drum brakes on the back.

I hate the Tigra because it's a Vauxhall, it's classed as a "sports car" when it's nothing like, and it's a blatant copy of my car.

Have an open mind.

I'd still rather have the Ford Puma, actually i'd have neither. I had this Kid driving a corsa behind me yesterday, masive banner saying 'Motorsport' window tint, badly fitted body kit, NOS/HKS stickers the works. I let him past and I read on the back 1.2, so he was packin at least 40bhp. I've driven a 1.4 version of the same Corsa, it was quite nice, although the interiors are up to vauxhalls usuall standard.

I drive one o' these, packin a mad tyte 1.4 sohc with a whopping 75 bhp.

No.

Almost everything Vauxhall makes - and has ever made - is dross. Their best ever cars are:
VX220/Turbo - Made by Lotus at Hethel.
Monaro - Made by Holden, in Australia.
Lotus Carlton - Modified by Lotus at Hethel.

In fact, the VX220 Turbo has absolutely NO reference to Vauxhall anywhere on it's body - the gay lion badge is on the front and rear, but nowhere does it actually say "Vauxhall" - even Vauxhall are acutely aware of just how bad their reputation is.

My girlfriend test drove a new Corsa when she was trying to pick a car from her work fleet. She remarked that it was considerably worse in every department than our 11 year old Fiesta - not the best car on Earth.

Now I don't hate Vauxhalls JUST because they're Vauxhalls - I gave a list of reasons for my distaste of the Tigra - but it is a huge black mark against any car. Seriously - the Meriva? What's the point?

The Daihatsu Mini Sway

1995-1998 Electric Car from Japan

0.59kW!!! or 0.80 Horsepower (SLOW DOWN GUYS)

Single Seat

The only reason I like Vauxhall is because they are paying Lotus a ,rumoured, hefty amount for the production of the VX220.
Even better is Lotus are on a fixed production run of VX220's and they are making more cars than Vauxhall can sell :) .
Although they arent as bad as Rover/MG .....yet.

^looks like a parking wardens patrol vehicle.

I'm helping my Uncle looks for a medium sized 5door hatchback.
