Installing custom firmware (CFW) is a matter of figuring out what model PSP you have (I have an original PSP 1000; aka 'phat PSP') and then finding an online guide (there are hundreds, if not thousands) for that specific model and how to go about installing the custom firmware. I'm using 5.50 GEN-B2, but the latest build is 5.50 GEN-D2. Sorry I can't help any of you as I haven't had official firmware (1.50) since early 2005 when I got my PSP at the North American launch - back then, we didn't have any security to go around to install CFW. Nowadays, people have to use exploits to find a way in.

The biggest PSP site is PSPISO (it was already linked to once in this thread) and that is the best resource for finding guides and all the needed firmwares (custom and official). Check it out... you'll have to register, but it'll be worth it. Here is the tutorial section: http://www.pspiso.com/forumdisplay.php?f=159

Just to help others out. QJ.net forums have a good PSP section and psp hacks is also a good website for all things CFW.

there are definitely additional cars not included in the 'canonical' 830.. though these are only, as so far is known, 'special edtions' of cars normally available e.g. the black bugatti offered as a preorder bonus, and the red Mclaren Mercedes SLR already mentioned..

are there ways I can obtain these special colours without the redeem code? There must be a way to do this, as they are already in the game...

I can post codes transfered to other systems like CoderPR and NitePR cause they are more user friendly. If u have a Phat or Slim i'd suggest making a Pandora battery and mms. CFW is illegal though.

The codes work good for me =) I'd like to see some old GT2 road course and rally tracks if you could get those codes.

CFW is illegal though.

It's not illegal. It may be in some countries (I have yet to hear of any though), but it certainly isn't in the US. Making a Jigkick (aka 'Pandora') Battery may be because the DMCA (Digital Millenium Copyright Act) states circumventing copy protection and/or altering portions of the copyright code in the BIOS is illegal... with a couple of important 'clauses' such as reverse engineering ('ok') and circumventing copy protection if the reason is to make homebrew compatible (also 'ok). All the PSP CFW has avoided using/altering the copyrighted code and just replaces the non-copyright protected code (this is why you need an official firmware 150.PBP when installing CFW).

Now, that being said, CWcheat (and FreeCheat/DarkCheat/etc.) are all homebrew programs and are quite legal - still. Given more time, I'm sure the music, gaming, and movie industry lobbyists will attempt to throw millions more at Congressional members to strip what few remaining rights still remain in regards to personal use of purchased digital content ('Fair Use' - where have you gone?). As it stands today, we're still ok and in the clear.

Sony's worst enemy-ISO's

Yea but still if your using CFW to download ISO's only thats considered stealing and well that of course is illegal.

Yes, downloading pirated ISO files is illegal... but you don't do that with CFW.

:)

I can't run these tracks on my PSP as it is literally falling apart. I've replaced the analog stick three times, the battery cover won't close anymore (thank goodness for duct tape), my battery is completely dead (so I have to keep it plugged in with the AC cord), the laser doesn't read UMDs any more (I have to borrow another PSP and dump the contents and use the resulting ISO), and all the bottom row buttons are messed up - they register multiple button presses when I only hit one of them. Example: if I press 'home', it goes to that screen but is also turns off the audio as if I held down the 'note' button and it raises my screen brightness up one level. Because of this oddity, I can't run any cheat devices. I'll have to wait until my son comes back from his vacation in Mexico so I can do it with his PSP.

Technically speaking thats atleast a top 3 reason for CFW is ISO's. But also its for homebrew which really most homebrew only works with most 1.50 CFW. As for your psp i think its time for a new one :)

I've thought about it, but I can't financially afford it. The money I'd have to spend to buy a new PSP couldn't be spent on games.

C'est la vie.

:)

My son teases me as he walks around with his PSP. I'm tethered to my AC cord that has to be kept fairly still or else the wires lose connection (or maybe the loss in connection happens at the plug entry on the PSP itself) and the screen goes black as the PSP dies. Ugh.

I didn't even have to be as careful as this when my son was an infant! He was at least squishy, resilient, and forgiving!

Damn, what happened to that thing?

Did you literally try to Hack it?

Nope... just four and a half years of constant use! I would guess that I play it for at least three hours a day, if not more, and can only remember a handful of days that I didn't touch it.

Honestly I'm just glad that it is still operable. I was on my third PS2 four years after that system launched (damn laser problems). I feel good that I'm still on PSP #1.

You need a protective case Bro. Ive had my PSP for 2 years now, and its scratch-less. I've dropped it a bunch and even kicked it after dropping it in an attempt to save it with my foot. Thanks to my clear plastic case it's still scratch-less.

I even have a screen protector film applied to the screen under that protective case.

No scratches on my screen either! I even wipe off the fingerprints every 30 minutes or so. Yeah, I'm a bit protective of it (and always have been). Unfortunately, 'wear' happens and sometimes luck just isn't one your side.

If you have ever taken your faceplate off your psp there is already a (somewhat thinner) screen film already on it. I used to have film on mine but dirt and crap got all under the sides and stuff so i just took mine off.

DetroightBB Yeah, that's the truth, when you think its all good, Murphy craps on you.

Ive been lucky as Mine went on the day I bought my PSP and has never come off, there is no dirt on or in it, in fact you cant even tell its there unless you look real closely.

Dang I should've had a screen protector on it in addition to an outer case too! Some filth got in between the case and the screen of my PSP and that gave it a fair amount of blotches and dings and stuff. Oh well, maybe some screen polish/scratch remover can help me.

Yeah I know what you mean, I open the case to clean her out very often, I don't like when dirt gets in there. Im sure the protective film is the only reason I have a pristine screen.

LOL @ the off-topic discussion going on here...

Is there any news on the subject of this topic, the hidden tracks?

No new news... other than those three tracks are playable and the codes for the North American, European, and Japanese versions are in the first post of this thread.

I hope someone gets the special stage tracks and rome circuit:)

They were some of the best tracks in the Gran Turismo series:sly:

Rome circuit definatly and Grindelwald although i don't care if grindelwald is still in gt2 graphics. I'd like alot of tracks brought back to life from gt2 actually.

This goes to show how well of a Job PD has been doing over the years. It's at the point now where we feel at home in there Fantasy tracks. We even miss them when there are not there...
