Thanks, it did take a while, but its stopped me from getting so angry at losing and resetting over and over. :) Now I can just enjoy learning a certain car's capabilities.
I just think its a much better way to take the game, instead of getting worked up and not even enjoy the wins when they inevitably do come.

True. If we never lose, and if we find yourself just resetting all the time, it's like when we actually do win, those wins don't feel like we earned them--they just feel like they've been pillow-cushioned. Like mommy is there to help whenever we fall down or something.

Exactly! I love that feeling when you have just won a tight race in any championship, you feel as if you have actually achieved something, to come out on top in a hard-fought race. Alternatively, I have also had some of my best races ever when I have finished a close 2nd or 3rd, as I can appreciate the racing and see where to improve. Compare this to taking a Group C car into a professional hall event, just to be assured of getting first place, and it doesn't feel good in any way, just a means to finish the game as quickly as possible. I love taking my time, getting to know a car, and its idiosyncrasies, and by quitting every time there is the slightest possibility of losing, I would not accomplish this at all.

I couldn't agree more. Some of the best races that I have taken part in I have either won, or lost by a hundrenth of a second.

The only races that I don't mind taking a good lead in are endurance races. Usually the bottom 3 cars drop out of contention shortly after the race begins. Usually the second and third place cars will hang close for a while, but even they drop off because of pitting schedules. So if I really start to walk away from them, I don't get to upset.

I've reset endurance races often; but either

1. it's because I've found myself with too much of an edge on the Ai

2. I'm falling behind the Ai and want to be more competitive.

3. I'm trying to make an effort to get as many Ai compteing with each other AND myself. If you reset the grid in most any GT4 race, it is possible to make several cars competitive with you and each other. 👍

There's nothing like an endurance race that is close and intense....I personally study the Ai to make sure as many of them are up in the front-lines with me...like in those last 10 to 15 laps the big question is do I have enough fuel? How are my tires?" etc.

Late-race decisions become intense under these circumstances!

Yeah, if anyone saw the race-percentage from one of my memory cards, they'd be like "dude, you totally suck!" But my 40 to 60% win ratios are there because I'm more concerned with a good, intense, close race than a fluffy sugar-coated 100% win ratio. :guilty::embarrassed::)

I was a quitter in the first two GT games. My win percentage was 100 in both of them. Although I don't recall doing it often, I do recall doing it.
I don't think I was any better in GT3, although, I didn't even complete GT3 . . . It on my list of things to do at some point in time.

It wasn't until I started playing GT4, and started hanging out here that I stopped building monster cars and mashing the reset button. Its probably one of the reasons I still play GT4.
 
I rarely quit a race if i'm blatantly punted off, because it's always a great leveller when you catch the guy who punted you and you return the favour. :sly:
 
Well, it really depends with me. I follow Duke's route a lot, to be truthful. I also give in really early if it's readily apparent that I'm going to bludgeon my competition.

One of my best experiences sticking it out, however, was when I was running the Nürburgring 4Hr race with a stock Monaro and the Fire-breathing NSX passed me on the big straight, last lap, and he was going a good 20 mph on me. I was lucky enough he couldn't hang on with his tires and he beefed it in the last Ess corners. I won a 4 hour race by only 3.2 seconds and it prolly will be one of the best nail-biters I'll ever have. 👍
Deffinitely my strategy for picking races though is matching the rabbit's pit ratio. At least one car will give me a fight. :lol:

I think my worst beating came when I decided to take a stock 6.2 mile Storia CX 4WD into the Sunday Cup on the High Speed Ring.

Oof what a blistering beat down. Not once was I even close to being able to identify what the 5th place car even was.
