It's a masterful political move to move the public's attention from the pedophilia allegations to something totally different.

People who haven't heard of the pedophilia allegations yet will probably not here about it again after reading headlines that state Foley entering alcohol rehab.

Hmmm, first I've heard of this debacle... I'm not sure that this is a ploy to downplay the 'paedophile' allegations (if that is what they are)... the fact that he's entering rehab means that atleast he's having to address his behavioural problems, of which alcohol addiction is one. If he does have an alcohol problem, then what else do you think he should do if not seek help for it? Entering rehab might grab the headlines today, but I seriously doubt that the allegations of misconduct will simply 'disappear' as a result...in other words, even if it is a ploy (which I doubt), then it ain't going to work...

Plus if he does suffer from some form of mental behaviour disorder then sexual disorders, such as pedophilia, and addictive behaviors, such as alcoholism, can go hand in hand. In fact, the alcohol can make matters worse sometimes. A disorder of this type can even cause a heterosexual man to find some form of joy in making sexual advances at young boys, even though he has no actual sexual attraction towards them.

That all said, he could very easily know this fact and be using this as a ploy, not to distract from the sexual misconduct, but to try and give it reasoning outside of pedophilia. If he can get a mental health official to declare him as having something he could avoid jail time and just have to seek therapy for a while. I could see it as less about politics and more about staying out of jail.

Let me see if I understasnd the new line correctly. He is a gay, alcoholic, clergy victim and so he is so messed up in the head that he now wants to become his tormentor?

I think the bullet theory might be the best option at this point, as he may enjoy whatever could be waiting for him in prison.
