So everyone loves football, or atleast everyone has their sport. But I don't. So I kinda want to get into football, due to it being so outspread, and so easy to follow. The only problem is, I don't have a favorite team, I dont know anything about players or anything! I used to play back in elementry school and I understand the game, point system, everything that happens, I just dont know anything beyond that. So anyone wanna help me out here? I need a favorite team... lol

BUT! I do not want this thread to turn into a "Dont like the Vikings! Go Cowboy's!" Thread... Or I'll just ask to close it.

Thanks guys

Short of your closest football team being the Lions (0-16 FTW... er, L), is there anything wrong with the closest? I say closest as you are then most likely to be able to catch more of their games, unless you have a dish/cable sports package (says they guy who only has an antenna ).

Other than that, pick a team and ride the emotional roller coaster that is football season!

Follow player stats from time to time and watch the games. You can always read the sport section.

Where do you live? I assume you don't live in an NFL city, but (assuming you live in the States) there's probably a team in your state.

Football's easy to like even if you don't understand all of it. My mom loves (loves) her Ravens, and she's always asking me why something happened or what the rules are.

It's great to be a fan though - there's nothing like the devastating lows and the incredible highs that football season brings.

Picking a football team is easy if you have one nearby or in your state. Go for the home team. If you are like me, in Kentucky, then you have about four teams to choose from and you will get the joy of heckling by guys that like a different team than you.

For learning about football I actually learned the game from Madden games. The training mode will take you through the plays and explain the strategies and terms. And as you have to use that knowledge yourself you have to learn it.

Also, participating in fantasy football will get you into all the games and not just the one that your favorite team is playing, because you then are watching players from across the league. Not having a chosen team would make this easier as it is hard to watch your team play against the defense on your fantasy team. Then you are wanting your team to win, but wondering if it will cost you your fantasy game. This is especially hard if there is money on the line in your fantasy league.

Another thing to consider is rooting for a college team before a pro team. I will always prefer college sports to professional sports because those guys are still, mostly, playing with heart.

And if you are trying to find a sport in general I personally prefer college basketball over any sport.

I can't stand basketball... lol I really can't. But thanks for the information. Maybe i will try a fantasy league! Any recomdations? and I'm not too big of a fan of any college sports actually...

That does it, I'm writing a huge rant on fantasy football tomorrow. Just you wait. Gonna be a whole new thread and everything.

Yeah, I'll co-author it. I hate fantasy football. American football is like the only sport that you just can't make a fantasy league out of. My fantasy team could only be Dolphins all-time players.

Well, it is a little late to join a league now as the regular season is over, but we do a free one here on GTP (see my sig) and being free it is very low pressure. Just earning the right to trash talk.

As American football is all about stats anyway I think it is a perfect fit. What I still don't understand is Fantasy Racing.
