So... wall finishes

Despite grabbing 3 more pallets from work, I didn't make any more progress over the weekend. I do, however, have a few before and after sanding pictures of 2 of the 15 boards I worked on last week.

The top one was a bit too rough for me to just leave alone but a hit of 120 grit took it down a touch. For the bottom one, the sandpaper took off some, but not all, of the dirt/staining but left the saw mill blade marks which is precisely what I am looking for.

I think I have the stain narrowed down, just need to visit the store with my wife for the final decision. Plywood should be purchased this week sometime then I can start installing. :D

Five more pallets brought home today making my current tally 3 disassembled, 8 waiting to be torn apart.

Three of the 4 sheets of plywood have been cut down, painted flat black and screwed to the wall.

The last one will hopefully be cut down and painted tomorrow afternoon and provided it's dry, installed tomorrow night. The stain for the planks has been decided on (BEHR semi transparent "Harbor Gray") and will be purchased tomorrow, too.

It's starting to come together!

Thread moved to The Rumble Strip as it no longer involves electronics and has move on to lightweight construction.

The last sheet of plywood is up and I've started cutting and staining the planks.

Sanded and not stained:

One coat of stain:

Two costs of stain:

I thought I wanted grey boards but after seeing them held up in the theater room, the grey is too close to the wall color so I've decided to go with the warmer, single coat:

Pictures don't really do the boards justice. The color on them is really rich. I think it looks fantastic.

After a change of plans and a few other setbacks and delays, I have 6 rows up and another 4 in the garage ready for stain and installation (which should put me at around half the wall done). There are also another couple of pallets still needing to be torn down but I'm still going to need to get my hands on a few more.

You little carpenter, you!

Looking nice, TB. I never knew about this thread until now. And I'll be dammed if that projector doesn't put out one hell of a nice picture! That thing is just sharp.

I can only imagine watching a hockey game. (I have vision problems and I bet that I wouldn't have to sit up close :dopey:)

Everyone knows us Fargonians are good with power tools.

Provided you aren't 3 feet away, the resolution looks spectacular. The size is just a bonus. :D

I don't have anything in the theater room capable of picking up OTA stations (don't have cable/satellite) so no TV in there. But that's not really the point of the room, either. TV stays on the plasma, movies are on the projector. ;)

Its beautiful.
I have made vertical veggie stands with pallets before. Not nearly as impressive as that wall. Cant wait to see the finished product.

I put another 4 rows up tonight so I yanked the SD card out of my camera to post the most current picture with not crappy camera phone quality.

That puts me at about 45% done and I'm out of torn down pallets so progress will slow down until I get more hacked apart.

I think it looks great TB. Quite liking the wood tile finish. Cheers.
Would love to see when it's all finished.
BTW, the sofas look so nice and comfy too.

Thanks to freezing temps and lack of pallets, progress has been painfully slow. I do have a few more rows up and a few more cut down and ready for stain in the next few days and installed shortly thereafter but then I'm in a holding pattern for more pallets. Might have to look somewhere else besides work.

I do really like just how different all the wood is:

I think t will look great when it's done but I had no idea it would take this long. Granted the weather here played a big part of that, too, but still...

In theory (assuming I measured correctly), this should be the last of the boards I'll need to get the wall finished.

20170528_204050.jpg

They're all ripped down and sanded now I just need to get them stained (everything is set up, Back to the Future is playing to keep me company) then dried and pin nailed. If the stars all align, I could be done tomorrow, worst case this week.

Finally.

Edit: Everything is stained!

And align they did!

To cut to the chase, here's the finished product, all buttoned up and ready for more movie action.

The gif I was intending to cover the entire project but because it took so long and the camera was moved for the Hawaii trip, this is as far as it made it:

EDIT: I still need to come up with a good name for over the door. Suggestions welcomed.

At last. That looks fantastic man. Cheers.

And those sofas oh my God they look so comfortable too. Besides the room looks outstanding and very tasteful. Them Hollywood guys have nothing on you now.

That looks so sweet.
That looks fantastic man.
Thanks, guys!
Outstanding job! Way better than the teenage bedroom movie posters.
The "posters" were just a place holder until I decided what I wanted to do with the room.

That and I'd wanted to Rasterbate something for quite a while. :P
And those sofas oh my God they look so comfortable too.
They are old and incredibly broken in which does make them quite comfortable. I've been know to fall asleep watching movies on occasion.
Them Hollywood guys have nothing on you now.
I think they've got plenty better gear than I could ever dream of having!
No Kids Allowed
I'm quite disappointed you didn't say No Homers Club.
Love shack
That's a different room. ;)
Cliffords'
You provide me with a small loan of a million dollars and I'll name it whatever you want!
No Wife Allowed?
She's the entire reason I have this house to begin with!
Caddie Shack
Gonna wavta pass, thanks.

I was going to post a variation of it, but figured you wouldn't appreciate me posting your real name.

Congrats on a job well done.

It's really quite beautiful. My wife walked by when I was viewing the pictures. She not only loved the idea, but she thinks its stunning as well. She now wants a wall like that in the house we are moving into in June. If I run into problems, I know where to turn.:D

A cold beverage, a hot movie and a giant doughnut are in order.

Thank you both!

I'm not sure if I should say you're welcome or I'm sorry.

I definitely have some suggestions if you decide to do it. Don't hesitate to ask! :)

The beverage is easy enough to sort out, the same friends that made the outlet cover has Logan on his PLEX server and Friday is National doughnut day. Kinda sounds like I have to do that!

How much do you charge per hour, @TB? Looks great buddy!
