This was asked to me by a guy who happened into a Drift Room. He made the point that theres really no Online Drift mode in the game, Nor is there really any Physical Rewards for being a good drifter. So I ask you, what Draws you to Drifting on GT5?
For me, First nothing is cooler or more satisfying than connecting a Drift and feeling the Feedback from my tires sliding on Asphalt or Meeting a bunch of Likeminded Drifters and going out and just having some fun. I've attended Drift days in real life and The feeling I get is the same in GT5, and that's where PD triumphantly succeeded in besting every racing Sim ever made IMO.

So How about you?

I drift because it's the closest I can get to drifting. I can't really drift because im too young and I dont even have a car yet. Another reason why I drift is because it excites me for some uncontrolable reason. I guess it excites because your on the verge of spinning out but at the same time your in sync with another person going at around 70 kmh sideways. I know there is a better reason why I drift on GT5 but I can't really think of it right now.

Ever hear of a Drifter named Ken Guchi? He started Drifting at 14 or so, I think he became a pro at 17? So don't give up on that.

I drift on GT5 because there is nothing better than being sideways and having a whole load of smoke coming out of the back of your car while doing 100+ KM/H around a turn:sly:. Plus, I am not a really competitive racer and just play for the fun & drifting lobbies allows me to do just that. Unless, i encounter a competitive lobby for drifting; i immediately bypass it and leave.

I drift on here, cause drifting is and always has been my favourite kind or motor sports. (and the only one tbh! :D) I've seen 3 cars sliding past in a perfect tandem when i was 12-13 years old. Since then i knew, drifting was a big part of my life :) I try to have practise sessions now and then irl, but when i have to stay home, nothing beats a lobby with friends, and comf hard tire limitations... Let the tandems come :D (Point being: I dont like grip racing, only reason i got GT5 is the drifting)

Well, my short story:

I never paid so much attention about Drift for years, but im a Gran Turismo "fanboy" since the first day i saw it, on PS1.

Drifting always was the boring part of racing games for me, specialy when it was a necessary goal (ie: NFSU2), and i never felt no excitement of drift alone.

Ok, the golden day happened a bit later i start to play an online PC MMORG called Project Torque. Most of you never heard of, but was a really high quality racing game, with physics so very similar to Gran Turismo 4. Also, it had the Corolla GTS, the Mazda FC, FD, RX8 and some other driftable cars. Also another strong part was the tracks, most of them epic and amazing.

The thing is that i started drift there because was a way of surviving, because i never was a so consistent racer and i was one of the first to notice that drifting on that game financialy could pay better than win the first place, so i started to train hard. Also, the game had a strong community of true drift lovers and drift geeks, that made me learn so many info about techniques, cars, rules, pilots and so on... Since Project Torque ended, i tried so many games but never had the same feeling again. Not only due the physics and atmosphere, but also because is boring to drift alone without tandems.

So i was following GT5 since prologue but i hadn´t a PS3, but i always was amazed with this game, so 1 month ago or so i bough a PS3 and only this game, and thats all i need. Drifting online is not rewarding if i think of money, but since my favorite drift cars are barely cheap and a full upgrade cost around 200k, i dont mind to play the unwanted part of the game for moneymaking and then drift all the other 99,9% time.

After 1 month or so, im starting to feel that im domaining the techniques, learning how to finetune cars, meeting drifting friends. Drifting online worth for the fun, the money is secondary. There is nothing better than find a top room with only RWD cars using confort hard tires and praticing hard together instead race for the first place and gain a cheap win.

reason I drift on gt5. hmmm well me being not able to drive till summer. and being in love with drifting since I was 10. I wanted to get an early jump start on drifting. I've bought a g27 and built my own cockpit frame. I'm actually getting an e-brake to fuse a wire to the circle button and mount it to my cockpit. I've learned using clutch and heel toe all by watching videos and playing this game. granted i know this doesnt come close to real life drifting. but its certainly a start. So I guess I drift in GT5 to get a jump start on it.

I drift in GT5 because like others I'm to young to drift in real life also it some how relaxs me.

uuuh because its fun? yes thats why. and physical rewards?... dude its a video game... no rewards are physical in the gaming world (except tournaments $$$)

I too can't yet drift in real life as I'm only learning to drive, and GT5 gets me the closest feel to it. Plus nothing can beat the fact of pulling an insane in front of the team.

Hopefully this will change in a few months if I can buy a Levin irl.

Cause when you roll 225/40/19's on the front and 245/45/19's on the rear, a full day of romping will set you back $1,000 easy. Last event I went to I left about 2 hours early on my last set down to steel belts and a glazed flywheel/clutch disc. GT5 = $60 and lasts forever.

Including Gas, and probably another bumper.

Gas is always the least of my worries. I've already gone through 2 OEM front lips and 3 Seibon carbon fiber front lips. Bumper is all scraped up and paints cracking. Screw it...

While video games I think is a good hobby and cheap. ( Well, not really if you try to play in tournaments).

Well it attracts me for an unexplainable reason. I like the feel of being able to controll the car.I would drift in REAL life but i am too young and have no car.I cant wait to grow up:)

I drift on GT5 because its a fun video game. That is, its fun until all of these real life drifters come into your lobby and wont shut the hell up about how profound and interesting they are. I still havent met a real-world drifter that didnt wait to be asked about their drifting, they always shove it down your throat in the first 30 seconds of meeting them, its a shame. Sorry, got off topic there. I drift on GT5 because it entertains me.

Can't afford a drift / track day car in real life. =p Rent, bills, 40 hrs. / week job, wife, daughter, etc. etc. etc.

One day. But not today.

I know it might be impossible financially, but may i suggest you do everything possible to even get the slightest start? It may soon be to late...

Drifting in real life would very soon become very expensive. Burning all that rubber... So That is one of the reasons I like doing it. Another reason as many people say is the feeling, having complete control over your car. I enjoy drifting in GT5 a lot more than on other games even though there is no real reward for it, that proves how good the game is.

Old worn tires, will not be to expensive in real life ^^
I definately agree with GT5, being the best drifting game, even without reward. The reward comes from rushes of adrenaline; perfect tandems ftw ^^ (Definately when you know you're being watched or will be in a video :) )

Because I don't have Jay Leno's bank account!!!
You don't need Jay Leno's Bank account, you need his garage.

So far in my area, in total it cost around $80 USD for old tires.

I hear ya man. I got 2 kids and a full time job. I've always wanted to drift in real life but life started early, right around 18.(first baby) SO I have never really had a chance to get started but yes one day, which is hopefully soon, I will get my chance.
