I played GT5 quite often when I got it dec 2010, but I lost interest for it since I kept on replaying events over and over so that I could gold everything. When S2U came out I thought it would be a breath of fresh air so I sold my copy of GT5 and bought S2U. But now I feel that, even though I like S2U a lot, I miss GT5. I miss the premium cars, GT5's version of Nordschleife, the handling of the cars in GT5 and the beautiful grafics..

I remember having quite a few gripes with the game, but the racing was solid, and even though S2U offer a great racing experience, it lacks the precise control of the vehicle that GT5 has, and that makes a big differens for me.

Anyone else in the same boat as me?

Not really. I haven't played GT5 since getting S2U... Shift just makes so very clear what's wrong and lacking in GT5 that I probably won't be going back until GT6 Prologue hits the shelves.

And with all the great Shift 2 DLC coming it's going to keep me busy for some time to come :)

GT5 is only about fancy premium cars (not graphics, only premium cars) and good physics...

In my opinion, that's the only thing that matters in a driving game. Shift can have better features, but if the cars handle like 🤬 then it's a crap game no matter how you look at it.

It just comes to show how difficult it is to emulate the driving precision that the GT series always had. Although I have to admit, Forza does a pretty damn good job as well.

I haven't played GT5 since I got SU2 but when psn comes back online I guess i will be going back to GT5. Both different games and I hope I can play both alternately as the driving is different for both. With the latest update and driving a GT3 car in Su2 the driving is much better then when I first got it. I imagine the online for SU2 is going to be a demolition derby which can ruin the experience which doesn't happen much in GT5 because the damage model it limited :)

And GT5 makes it very clear what Shift2 is lacking. Car's that drive like cars.

Without online racing though GT5 can get pretty repetitive.

I couldn't ever imagine trading in or selling GT5 with the full online experience it provides. Would quick matchmaking be a + ? Sure, but I am capable of browsing a server list like a big boy on a PC.

Havent touch GT5 since S2U came out, not even a dab in the photomode, tried to launch it once to match up paint color of my real car but the loading time just pissed me off.

Both S2U and GT5 ain't satisfying enough in terms of physics in my book, so I just play the one that is more fun, and not that S2U's physics is miles behind GT5 in any sense, especially now the steering lag is patched.

I'm with the OP.
The "feel" of the road is critical in driving games, especially when using a wheel, and S2U doesn't emulate grip the way GT5 does...even after the 1.02 patch.
Plus, the GT franchise has a timeless aesthetic that other car enthusiasts share, which adds to the appeal.

In my opinion Shift 2 has a much more realistic driving experience. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of both games. But in GT5 there seems to be no consequences for mistakes and poor driving is rewarded. In GT5 you can take the way inside line in a turn much faster than the opponent and use the AI racers as a bumper to slow you down and keep you on the track. In Shift 2 this simply does not happen. When you crash, you well, CRASH.

Shift 2 drives very well since the patch and offers a much better racing experience than any other sim I know of. IMO I think it is a massive step forward.

I would never sell GT5 as I'm hoping that somewhere down the line, more tracks will get released and maybe the AI quickend up.
I would have been happy with a quarter of the cars and 10 more real world tracks.
Who needs all those cars?

Both games are different and GT5 has to deliver something better. I'm amazed it has been left half finished. Just hope we all get a massive add on, either free or to buy.

Haven't played it with the patch so i can't comment. I stopped playing after the first week but when PSN is up i will download patch and see what it's like with the wheel.
I hope it is improved as people say because the potential is there for a good fun game.

Just to let you know, I'm talking about the PC version, but I think I read good things about the PS3 Shift 2 also.
