Solution to sound problem

Hi everyone, as you may be aware some of us have been having issues with the quality of the sound after the 2.02 update (me included), not sure if this has been discused so applogies if it has.

While having a boring day at work I thought I'd see if anyone has any solutions to the incorrect balance of the engine sounds (no sound at the front of car while viewing bumber cam or in cockpit view, excesive wind noise) on another forum site (I forget which one sorry) it was found that the TV's sound channel had been changed from "STEREO" to "A" channel or "B" channel, so as soon as I get home got straight on to GT5 and checked my TV's channel setting, Bam! "A" channel was selected so I changed it to "STEREO" right away then test drove the Mazda 787b one of the cars I was having a problem with, anyway, I can confirm it now sounds amazing as do most other cars I have had the chance to test.

So I hope this has helped anyone else that has this problem?

I thought at first it was PD's fault (as they have a tendancy to patch a patch) cough cough "shuffle races" lol

i noticed a thing: 2.02 has changed the positioning of the sound effects. so now it really depends on where is the thing wich generates noise. for example a rear engine car in cockpit or bumper cam will have sound from the back speakers and so on..
for those of use who use a 5.1 system is a great improvement, but for a normal stereo system i think you have to tweak audio options until you'll have all the sounds you need in your speakers. i don't know if i was clear..

Thanks for this post, my Samsung TV has "SRS TruSurround XT" enabled since forever, it worked fine before 2.02 but it seems they changed some stuff for the sound.

Well, I disabled it and I get my Viper SRT10 ACT engine sound back !!

CHeck your TVs sound setting, and try to disabled enhence sound stuff

I guess you are right but after 2.02 any sound coming from the front is drowned by the wind noise, which means when in cockpit view you can barely hear the sound from engine(in front engine vehicles...).

something wich could help could be the single sound effects volume bar independently adjustable..
something like engine, tyres, wind...

I adjusted the stereo settings through my tv audio options for me I have 3 options
1. stereo
2. channel A
3. channel B
I assume channel A and B are for left and right, front and back or even other languages I'm not sure but it had changed to channel A so changed it back to stereo and the sound is just fine, can really hear the improvements PD have made.
@ djs I'm using 2.1 speaker setup from my tv to an normal amp, so I'm not sure as to 5.1 options?

My sound goes through my Onkyo Audio/Visual Receiver via HDMI connection. It splits the sound out to my 5.1 speakers. The video continues on to the HDTV. I can't check the settings of the A/V Receiver until tomorrow morning*, and I will post the results here. In my case, the HDTV Sound setting does not apply.

I have the same idea like you after patch 2.02, my 787B muffer sound come out only on the right speaker, i thought it was a glitch. but actually it's not, take a look at the car, you will see its exhaust pipe come out only on the right side of the car, right behide the driver seat. then in cockpit view and bumper view most of the muffer sound come out on the right side of the speaker. You can test this by yourself, save your 787B replay, watch it in cockpit or bumper view then switch it to rear view, now the muffer is on your left hand and you will hear the muffer sound on the left side speaker. Check it yourself, have fun...

I have a Toshiba HD LCD TV, and I turned off all the enhanced sounds settings. I only had time to try a demo of the Lexus Super GT car. Already a big difference in sound. I recommend to everyone to try it.

Nice try, but not quite. If you have someone stand to your right and run a chainsaw while you have completely plugged up your right ear, you will still hear it just fine with your left. You might be on the right track in deciphering WHY this has happened, but that doesn't change the fact that it's wrong and shouldn't have happened.

I accept your chainsaw and ear plug condition, and also think that PD is too real for the sound effect, I agree with you that it's wrong cause I believe that in real car (787B) I must heard the muffer sound with my both ears. I only thought that it's just fun switching back and forth listen to the muffer sound running left and right.

Had the same problem after the update. Realized I had no sound at all on left speakers. Kinda pushed and pulled on the speaker wires coming from the stereo and now back to normal. Coincidence?

Well i have a 5.1 system (front left, front right, center, rear left, rear right, & a sub
And at first i had my hdmi front my ps3 to my tv... Tv to my stereo using a digital audio out cable.... About 6 months ago i tried the digital audio out straight front the ps3 to the stereo... It made all the difference and still does... Also if you only have a 2.1 system or a hifi type stereo (even if it has a surround sound setting) you shouldn't have it set to 5.1 because you have 3 speakers missing so lot of your sound isn't there

I have a very similar , (new), setup with a Samsung Smart LED being driven by an ONKyo TR-809 AV Receiver. The PS3 feeds HDMI to the Receiver and the receiver feeds HDMI to the Samsung and audio output to F L&R, CC, and subwoofer. I don't have the rear speakers yet. I just hooked this up yesterday and was very disappointed in barely being able to hear the engine. I've tried changing many settings but don't seem to be getting any closer. Using GT5 setup, I cranked down all audio settings and then cranked up the AV receiver volume and this helped a little, ( I can now hear the engine at idle), but as soon as I get underway the engine sound becomes underwhelming. I've always used , ( the PS3 with older AV equipment), the engine sound to help me determine shift points and with my new AV equipment, ( and maybe one of 13 updates that were applied when I logged on for the first time since March 2011), I just can't use the engine sound to help me drive.
