Don't get your hopes up, this is an out of date thread. The deal for thoes two Americans to buy and manufacture TVR's in America fell through. Ofcourse there is still a chance that they will go to the US some time but company needs to start build cars again period first. They've been out of business for a while and recenty there has been rumours and some evidence, though not conclusive, that the company is on it's way back.

TVR is dead.

It will be as long as that idiot owns it. He's run out of credibility (not that he ever really had any) and the cars will never be the same again.

Shame.

Didn't someone stick a TVR logo on a barn? Or was that the doings of that Russian character who owns them?

EDIT: Nikolai Smolensky! That's his name.

Yes there's a TVR logo on a barn, with another building next to it under construction. Read into that what you will, because nothing is confirmed or not. Smolenski did say last year that he hoped to have the cars back in production this year though. It was only last year he unveiled the Typhoon as a future model. Personally I'd love to think everything is going to plan-ish, but Smolenski has damaged the company far more than helped them. It's a pity Al Melling was unable to buy the company when it went up for auction.

Not fair. When is Australia going to wake up and get these things? (the Sagaris is pure ownage)

What's not fair, because if your talking about TVR selling cars in America, you might want to re-read the 4th post above yours (posr 63).

You guys are going to love the Sagaris, I would say it is miles better then the Z06, that includes its handling. However you lot in the States will still get a left hand drive version, since some were exported in left hand drive to Holland.

The Sagaris will not really compete against the Z06, but rather the Corvette ZR-1, Viper SRT-10, Nissan GT-R (especially the forthcoming V-Spec), Lexus LF-A, Audi R8, Porsche 911 GT2, and perhaps even the Lamborghini Gallardo and Saleen S5S. The Sagaris isn't going to much of a rival for the Z06 if it is sold for twice the price.

The Audi R8 is MUCH slower then the said cars above... I mean it isn't slow... but it won't be competing anytime soon.

How much and how fast is the R8 TDI going to be? The Sagaris is going to face some seriously heady competition for $120,000. I also thought of the SL-class AMGs, but those are an entirely different kind of car from the Sagaris, Corvette, LF-A, etc.

Um, what?

The R8 is "quick," but it isn't fast. Adding TDI power is only going to slow it down (just a hair). The Sagaris, at least as far as I can tell, is going to be *perfect* competition for the Corvette Z06 and Porsche GT3 as far as I can tell performance wise... Price be damned, the Porsche sells for about the same price.

...And thats only IF the car ever shows up here officially...

Even so, you get the ford falcon and we get the ford fiesta. mix it up.

The TDI is not going to be slower than the gasoline model. The TDI has 493 hp compared to the base R8's 414 and 738 lb. ft. of torque. Actual performance stats for the TDI are still forthcoming as Audi still hasn't finished developing a transaxle that can withstand 738 lb. ft. of torque.

The people who are looking at a Sagaris will not be looking at a Corvette Z06. "Price be damned" doesn't work because the U.S. market largely revolves around price. If you want to charge $120,000, your car has to run with the $120,000 cars, and the ZR1 and 911 Turbo are much faster than the Z06 and GT3. I'm not saying it's completely out of its league, but it's not the juggernaut it is in the UK when it has to compete in a supercar price bracket.

Just because a car has more torque and horsepower doesn't mean it will be faster... You are forgetting one KEY word. That word starts with a D and ends with an L.... Yes it's Diesel... Diesel has worse sports car performance then regular gas/petrol whatever... And even then the GT-R, Z06, 911, Sagaris etc.... will still walk all over... Like YSSMAN said it's fast but no super fast...

For $120k in the American market the Sagaris wouldn't be the bargain performance mosnter it is over here in much the same way that for £55k in the UK the Corvette C6 isn't the performance bargain it is in the US. That said TVR's are very low volume and I'd expect any sales in the US to reflect that, will TVR be able to sell 30-40 Sagaris' at $120k each year in the US, that is the question that needs to be answered.

Performance wise it isn't going to be beating the Z06, GT3 or GT-R, it's very fast for it's price but not that fast. The Sagaris is between the base C6 coupe and the Z06 when it comes to track performance so whatever cars in the US you have that fit snugly in between are where it will be competing again performance wise so you can throw a few Porsches in there but I'm not that sure what the prices are like and what else you have in the Us market.

As far as I know it never happened, none were built with US engines. If anyone wants a future classic and can afford one, buy yourself a TVR. Future classic status is assured. Awesome, underrated cars, flaws and all. The last few models including the Typhon, of which there were/are around four, are fast as all hell.

Dude read the thread or at least the last page or so. The post above mine bumped the thread from 2008, and sadly it ain't happening. At least not for now.

Which is why I edited the post. Never even noticed this thread until today so I thought it was recent.

The company collapsed while Smolenski was screwing around trying to get it to happen, since he banked the entire future on it with no plans for what to do if it couldn't.

Because idiot.
