Taken from that fine website http://www.mygranturismo.net/, the number of participants and numerous filters are readily available. Here's something interesting from the last few:

DS3 stick is most popular driving device, more than 3x more than wheels. DS3 pads are a minority.

DS3 stick is at best 0.5% slower than best wheel times, pads are 1.5% slower.

55.2 rank time gap gap%
11013 wheel 1 65.904 sec
37443 Ds3 stick 17 66.292 sec 0.388 sec 0.994
10880 DS3 pad 162 67.076 sec 1.172 sec 0.982

55.1 rank laptime gap
12041 wheel 1 131.137 sec
37142 Ds3 stick 9 131.811 sec 0.674 sec 0.995
10075 DS3 pad 76 132.834 sec 1.697 sec 0.987

9000 wheel users come back. 3000 pad users go awol. 13000 sticks less than 54.1.

54.1 rank lap gap
14624 wheel 1 76.457 sec
50360 DS3 stick 28 77.272 sec 0.815 sec 0.989
13295 DS3 pad 61 77.603 sec 1.146 sec 0.985

Huge stick numbers in TT 54.1, over 50,000. Double profiles anyone?

54.2 rank lap gap
2837 wheel 1 60.723 sec
25975 DS3 stick 15 61.682 sec 0.959 sec 0.984
13295 DS3 pad 71 62.521 sec 1.798 sec 0.970

wheels bail out of TT 54.2, less than 3000 participate. And half of sticks only do second event, -25000. Curious all pads do both events. This was the Eiger Rally event

52.1 rank lap gap
11724 wheel 1 85.338 sec
36816 DS3 stick 12 86.194 sec 0.856 sec 0.990
10233 DS3 pad 35 86.587 sec 1.249 sec 0.985

Apologies if the columns don' line up.

Large fluctuations in numbers of participants, overall seems to be slipping, wonder what the low end is when PD decides to bag the seasonals.

Interesting stuff ty
55.2 top 100 5 stick /0 ! ds3/ 95 w9
top 500 113 stick / 15 ds3 / 382 wheel

on a less technical track like monza 45.1
top 100 21 stick / 5 ds3 /74 wheel
top 500 172 stick / 52 ds3 / 276 wheel

cote d azur 36. ferrari f1
top 100 17 stick/ 0 ds3 / 83 wheel
top 500 125 stick / 8 ds3 / 367 wheel

yet on 54.2 top 100 9 stick / 1 ds3 / 90 wheel / even with so few wheel drivers here as pointed out by Polsixe
top 500 105 stick / 24 ds3 / 371 wheel

I guess what it means is that pretty much the same people in the top500 keep coming back for more time trials and they perform roughly the same each time.

And you arnt getting into the top 100 with a ds3 easily. Prob the best players are using wheels, because they are more serious about driving and it prob helps them to get better times , esp on more technical tracks.

I never would have guessed the gap from wheel to DS3 would be so small. I would have guessed at least 1-2 seconds consistently. But I think you're right about this. I think most of the more serious gamers have gone to a wheel and it skews the times a little bit. I'm a fairly decent driver but I have at least a couple of guys on my friends list that still use the DS3. One is as fast and consistent as me and hard to beat straight up, the other is slightly faster than me so it is possible to be superquick with the DS3. 👍👍

One of the top aliens still uses a pad I think. Maybe Doodle?...not sure:nervous:

I still use the DS3 in most TTs. Some of them, however, I am a bit quicker with my G27. For example, at the last Madrid TT with the R35 GTR I finished 7th with the wheel. It was only because the GTR is just so easy to master with it :P

There are also other very fast DS3 players who still focus on these regularly like matej2574, GTPR_Dart, and GT-PILOT_dee who can easily get top 20s if they try.

As shown by Polsixe above, 55.2 , best lap by wheel and ds3 1.172 sec per lap. 5 lap race is 5.86 sec. advantage wheel. Seems like about what i have heard about wheel advantage.
Best test would prob be to get doodlemonoply to use stick, ds3 and wheel for cote d'azur and monza, diff and easy track and see the differences
