Everybody seems to be concerned with the topic going on in the thread of week 37 about Arcade vs GT mode.
It's nice to see that people are so involved in the game and in sharing their experience, so I thought it was time for me to post again some statistics about the WRS.
Please move the discussion in this thread rather than in week 37.

Any comment/suggestion/criticism/compliment about what you would like the future weeks to look like are welcome.

Edit :
And we have used (or possibly used) exactly 100 out of the 730 available cars.

WOW! Buddy!

One is impressed with one's statistical prowess!

Maybe a poll on GT mode/Arcade mode would be an idea?

It would be interesting to see the results!

I agree with hotboi's comment in the Week 37 thread...setting up a car is too time consuming. Last week I just used kart's setup without question because I didn't have the skills or motivation to work out my own setup. Arcade Mode is the great equaliser in my opinion and it is my preference. I'm happy to go GT mode occasionally but I think a 70/30 split is good.

It's now 1:30am, too late for me to start thinking about what the poll question and possible answers should be. I'll do this tomorrow unless you already have something in mind, in which case please feel free to post the poll yourself.
The WRS is not mine : it's ours. So any relevant thread is worth being posted, by anyone who happens to think about something.

Any chance of someone going through the results and seeing who has got the most Division wins?

I vote Casio :)

I actually havn't 'offically' won any yet :indiff:

But it would have to be HotBoi, wouldn't it? Although, Hol did have that streak a few weeks back. I'd just be really interested to know....

i do prefer arcade mode, and i think the current way is good, But i definatly wouldnt object to all arcade mode hotlaps, lol! Is the way i like it thats all :P

I must admit i do prefer the GT mode races. Mainly because i like being able to mess with the car's settings in order to acheive a car that suits my driving style. Arcade mode is OK but i think most cars are best used with their stock power outputs. Reducing the weight is fine, but when you start increasing the power things can get a bit silly, especially with the non race cars that only have access to sports tyres.

I like the variation, sorta the way it's being done now...no not sorta, exactly. Keep up the variety and style you've been doing ,great job Cyril!!

flat-out
The 3 most recent posts just convinced me not to post a poll on this topic :

All that posted within 10 minutes.
 I know what your saying ... I mean your never gonna please everyone no matter what you do. I suppose a 50/50 split would be the fairest way to go then. Maybe alternate between modes weekly?

I think 50/50 is too much GT Mode.
I'm trying to post 1 GT race for 2 Arcade races.

Your probably right, it is alot more time consuming than Arcade.

If you want to finish on the podium in your division, WRS consumes a lot of time anyway. Holl01 and Hotboi mostly play like maniacs when they participate. So if you want a chance to beat them, you have to spend more time on the combo as they did. That would result in you spending time almost every day behind the PS2...

GT mode simply sounds more scary to some, because it includes settings. If you don't want to spend a lot of time on settings, just use the (almost) standard settings or copy those that people post in the forum. Fact is that in a car with a proper setup, it's easier to drive on the limit than in a crappy arcade car. So in the end I don't think it's that more time consuming, it's more like a psycholigical barrier. If you play for the result, you'll need to use every spare minute you have. Because it's still only one week for a race ;)

Spot on exactly right. 👍 There is no shortcut to a win in the WRS. You have to slog it out, and put in the time. There are just too many fast blokes here to mail it in.

One other thing to do if a driver doesn't have a handle on setups quite yet, is to search the numerous resources on the web that offer setups for just about any car. GT Vault is one, but there are others also. Most of the time the setups offered are just ok, but they get you in the ballpark and up and racing right out of the box. I am always tweaking my setup right up to the end to try and find that last little bit or advantage. It's just part of the fun IMO.

I think Cyril has done a magnificent job so far in the variety of events he has chosen. Whatever formula you are using, keep it up! :)

Shortcut to win in WRS: Yes there is! Have some magical gift. I raced 12.5 hours at GV to finally score my first D1 win.

I have driven 3 hours so far this week to miserable splits, whereas Zoky drove 20 laps to score a 5th in D1 IIRC at Motorland. I drove 9 hrs 20 minutes that week to finish 0.03" BEHIND him. And that week there wasn't setups or anything! Simple, arcade, short track, low power, low grip.

I want not only final times but an accounting of hours played as part of the results. Anyone with me here?

As for GT mode and available setups and tweaking, I totally agree. Besides, the hot guys usually post setups pretty early anyway so there's always some sort of baseline to work with. They're never, EVER, right for me, but it's there and I know someone can go faser using them.

Anyway, thanks Cyril for a place to play. It's been a blast.

About the car setting, I just added to the FAQ thread a link to Duck's set-up Workshop. It's a great resource with 177 cars so far and it's hosted here on GT Planet. So if we need settings for a certain car/track we can PM him :D

Last week I just used kart's setup without question....

How long do you think I spend on setup?!

No jokes, about 30secs of my GT Time is spent setting up the car. It is complete guess work, all I know it that rear camber is should never be more than 0 and the shock settings are usually too soft. Oh and the brakes need about a 6 and 4.

Thats on every car I use BTW, it doesn't come from me know a setup just from me staring at the screen and saying hmmmmm.

Anyway, those who say that it doesn't help distinguish who the best driver is, is smoking their socks. In the real world (where there is damage etc.) if you can't setup a car/kart/bike then you are not conisdered a good driver, no matter how 'fast' you are.

Heh... Too bad ''real world" setup rules need not apply in GT world. So, kart, what's involved in setting up a kart? Tire pressure, chassis stiffness bar, brake bias, weight balance, carb jetting and exhaust tuning?

I just got my 5 year old an Emmick 50cc. kid kart. Too bad it's raining now or we'd be tearing up the street out front! I still need to figure out how to tune the carb (used kart) cuz it won't idle/run right yet.

Later!

We can set the following (Sigh, here we go):

Chassis Stuff:

- Pressures
- Axles (Different types of compounds that you can use depending on the amount of rubber on the track)
- Seat position (VERY IMPORTANT)
- Caster
- Camber
- Ackerman
-Toe in/out
- Rear track width (usually just leave it at the maximum of 140cm)
- Rear hub Length and compound
- Front track
- Front hub length and compound
- Rim compound/materials (Magnesium or Aluminium)
- Chassis stiffness (tighten/loosen the side pod bars, Tighten/Loosen Nose cone bars)
- You can use different nose cones for downforce (I KID YOU NOT)
- Weight Distribution
- Front ride height
- Rear ride height
- Bumper bars stiffness
- Front and Rear Torsion bars
- Tie rod compunds and lengths
- Pinch Bolts

Engine Stuff:

- Batteries
- Wire looms
- Coils
- Exhaust Matting
- Sprockets
- Chain
- Spark Plugs
- Jetting
- Air screw
- Float levels

- the list goes on and on and on!

GACK! Maybe I'll stick to the indoor enduro kart place! :^) Nah!
