They do need to make new consoles. TIME FOR TRUE GRAPHICS. With new consoles you get new hardware = DX11 and DX12 compatible :drool:đź‘Ť.

"A trusted source". "Expects". "Will likely see". What's video game "journalism", or at least what passes for journalism, without rumor and speculation?

A lot of people "think" the PS4 will be out in the next couple of years. Well there are a lot of people who also think that the Chicago Cubs are going to win the World Series. How's that one working out?

The new XBox is going to be released in december 2013 so Sony will probably release a new console in 2014 unless they are giving up on the market... who are the chicago cubs??? and what world series is that? probably an America exclusive world series... for all the american world - lol

I think they should use a small team to keep updates and DLC coming on GT5. That could give them a larger window to create the ultimate GT game.
They could save GT6 for the PS4, which could be fully developed for the PS4 release.

They will probably release a GT6 prologue or something or at least make the PS4 - PS3 compatible

Yeah I agree, a 'prologue' or 'concept' game is likely to be the last GT thing we see on PS3.

Well in the PS3's darkest days (the first 3 years or so) it was hinted that it might be their last console because Sony was massively in the red because of it and the recession but I think they have come back round to the idea seeing the PS3 pick up massively since the slim and also seeing the good revenue from franchises like COD and also first party titles.

I just hope that put more RAM in the thing next time!

Of course this subject is all about speculation and thoughts, that's was this thread (and probably thousands floating around the web) are all about. It will likely be at least a year until we hear anything concrete about features and window of time for marketing from either company.

Guys who are of the opinion the idea of the next Playstation won't release along with Microsofts console are pretty close minded from a buisiness point of view. Sure the PS3 is a wonderful machine, almost too sad it will be overtaken by a new generation, but it doesn't mean at all they'll cut PS3 games and support. Why would Sony sit there and take an extra year? Just because Xbox happened to be ahead last time doesn't "obviously" mean Sony will be the ones who "obviously" drop the PS4 a year later.

In fact if you think about it, the company who's trembeling most about this whole deal is Microsoft, I think they're really feeling the pinch from Sony and I imagine they are really eager to be the first to release their console earlier than predicted (end of 2013). I could easily see them trying to catch Sony off-guard and dropping the system in the Summer of 2013. This is exactly what Sony is fearing, and they're definitely doing all they can to be prepared for this, and they know they need to be ready for release within at most a half year to avoid Microsoft gaining too much momentum at the start.

It's really hard to tell at the moment what's going on... like what the overall package of each system could include, cause ultimatly they each need an identity as to what they have to offer (besides the obvious system power upgrades). Both need to prove that the gameplay and overall wow effect is easily worth the upgrade for the gamers, so who can pull off the best presentation. Will Microsoft settle for the slightly less powerful but cheaper console, or vice versa? Wo will have the better game support initially (most important)?

Most important to us here however : Will PD pull a Prologue move on us? because in an event such as pressured PS4 release I'm not sure how fast a solid and complete game could be put together by PD if they were rushed once Sony has a firm PS4 release date. I would only be ok with this if they promise the full game in no more than 1 year. This goes for all developers working on launch date titles, so both Sony and Microsoft need to be essentially complete with their systems by next year for game development.

I think the PS4 is going to drop later because Sony like putting a lot into their system, its almost like they go about things the hard way (like developing the cell) rather than doing things relatively off the shelf. Adding Blu Ray etc all take time so they might also push lots of new tech for the PS4 whereas Xbox are likely to go with PC style again because its worked well for them and takes less time.

Its also not only with the 360 that they came late to the generation party, the PS2 dropped after the Dreamcast and it worked out great.

I think that the games library should be mention in this situations, at the time of release the PS2 had lined up strong titles and it was flexible to develop games on it, increasing the game library and potentially increasing the probabilities of good titles.

Something similar happened with the 360 as many titles were ready for the console's release(GOW, Halo 3), and I do believe that having an strong game library and flexible development architecture is the right way to do things (as Sony wants to achieve that same thing with the VITA).

For the next Xbox and PS platforms I do expect a boost up on its graphical/processing capabilities obviously, and I do expect things like the XNA Game Studio being implemented for indie development. Apart from that I'm pretty sure that both platforms should be flexible to develop in(for both Indies and Studios).

If Microsoft were to take that kind approach, as in being the ones with the more affordable, yet less power/feature filled system than Sony, they're setting themselfs up to be in a dangerous position. That would officially make Xbox the less powerful system, not going head-to-head with Playstation, which could be detrimental to Microsoft. If they don't do something special and worthwhile, they will litterally be the "monkey in the middle", Nintendo has to also be considered to bring us a great system. Remember these systems have to last at least 5-6 years into the future.

If Xbox is only an upgraded powerplant and lacking that special something to give it it's identity, they're toast. Everyone will wait to see what Sony brings to the table. I have a feeling that no matter what, people will wait out until comparisons can be made, even if the Xbox seems too awsome to resist at first. This is why Microsoft NEED to have a proper system if they want to be first to release, otherwise it's game over for them, they're not the favoured console anyway going into this next gen battle. Sony does have the upper hand in the industry and I don't think the market is asking for 3 different console price-points (assuming Nintendos will be cheapest). Obviously the biggest problem is capping the system power for the final product price, so it'll be super interesting to see how far they go before deciding "that's enough" for a video game system. I think as we now have an older generation of gamers more than ever in this world, both companies can justify a pretty higher price for their machines, 'cause people will save some more coin to get the best system. We're not living in a world where mass sales rely on parents buying their kids a system, which is safe to say was the biggest market about 10 years ago, now we have millions of young adults who have no problem with spending money on a console.

It's exclusive games like GT5 that are so important for them to keep this favoritism going for themselves. Thankfully for me, I will not have a hard time with my decision, not because of money or favoritism, but because I'm not a big gamer at all and the only thing I do is play GT and occasionally play sports games. GT has captured my heart, so I'm fully supporting Sony. I hope PD studios work reeeally closely with Sony on this, I still want Gran Turismo to be the ultimate driving simulator.

GT5 took so long to make because they totally had to re-do the entire engine, GT6 won't take near as long because it will probably run off of GT5's engine.

These are just estimations done by me, don't get excited:

GT5: 5 years in development (New engine for everything)
GT6: 2 1/2 years in development, estimated by me (Runs off of GT5's engine)

Kaz said he didn't know if GT6 will be on PS3 or PS4, but that was when people thought the PS4 would be released in 2012. :dunce: Logically, GT6 will probably be on PS3. (Taking into account tradition, development time, etc.)

Yeah, there is no reason not to make GT6P. GT6 with some 600 premiums and new tracks, 32 or so AI, great weather, damage model and so on will be on PS4 in some 4-5yrs from now but till then they should definitely make GT6P as there is lots of time left.

WOKKA WOKKA WOKKA!! That joke is so old the last time I heard that I fell off my dinosaur. You have any good Titanic material for me? Or is that "too soon"? :rolleyes:That joke wasn't funny the first time I heard it, and it's still not funny now. Someone asked me how would another country be able to compete in the World Series. I told him quite simply "buy a team".

You do realize that the World Series has been around longer than the World Cup has? The name was originally the World's Championship Series. Later it was shortened to World's Series, and finally World Series. In 1890 the Spalding Guide (a sports guide named for Admiral Spalding) said that there would be a time where the series would include teams from all over the world. Well it didn't quite happen that way, but the name stuck. As the saying goes, if you don't like it then take it up with the league office.

Here's the thing; when a team wins the World Series we don't say "HURRAY! The United States won!". We say that the "Yankees won".

I hate explaining jokes, but the last time the Chicago Cubs won was in 1903. Yes, that long. And every year Cubs fans say "this is our year", for the last 107 years.
