Nurburgring 24h at night in the rain.

Nuff said.

^this^

Raced recently in same conditions it was epic! can't beat th 'gring :)

I have recently mastered the elegant beast we call the Ring. Can finally run consistantly under 7:00 in many cars.
Was chomping at the bit to get my hands on Spa. I have been hot lapping and one making Spa non-stop since I bought it, and am in love with it. Just took my M3 GTR out on the Ring a few minutes ago, and was back at home. The Ring it is.

It doesn't matter what people say about Nurburgring being better, the fact is that it simply isn't, well, at least not in GT5. The Nurburgring is fantastic, and I love it, but for the purpose of testing and comparing, it's just too long; on top of it being much too narrow to have an enjoyable race i.e. If someone is ahead of you on the Nordschleife and is slower, it is torture for you because in a whole lap you can count the passing spots on one hand. Spa however, is perfect. Not only does it look fantastic in the game, but it is bang on real-life. It is the perfect length for a test track, and even more so as a race track. It is wide enough to pass anywhere, and combines so many different aspects of a car that you don't get needledick's beating everyone in the Elise 111R or GTR SpecV. I love Spa, and am really happy it's now on GT.

Neither of them are Bathurst though! :)

That is the nub of it. Spa is a superb racing track; great flowing corners and some very nice overtaking spots possible with clean manouvers.

The Ring is a great driving circuit for all the reasons we know. However it falls down as a racing track due to its width and lack of overtaking spots that permit a clean overtaking without risk of grassing it/ putting it in the hedge.

This. Spa is such a brilliant track to race on, especially when you have 16 very fast and very clean racers in a lounge, it's really a fantastic experience.

I voted for 'I'm not real sure' though, as the poll question Involves me taking other peoples opinions in to account too.

Spa is a great track, even more so as GT captured the very essence of it.

But as a race track, not so sure about that. Everything that's in Spa, some other track (in GT 5) does better. The high speed stuff is done better in Monza, the technical and high speed part there can only be Suzuka.

As there's endurance on the Nordschleife, Spa gets beaten there too.

Great to have Spa now, especially in this quality, but I feel it's overrated.

Spa has long been one of my favourites since visiting it back in 1991, and racing it on F1 '97 on the original Playstation, always look forward to coming out of La Source and hitting Eau Rouge then up through Radillion. So for me Spa, the 'Ring comes behind Suzuka for me too.

The 'gring is is the pinnacle of motor sports... it's as Lords is to cricket, as the Rosebowl is to NFL, as Wimbledon to tennis and as the world cup is to football.

It is the ultimate in motor sports, regardless of how one views the track one thing is clear: there is none better... ask any race car driver what the best track in the world is & I wager it won't be Spa, it will be the 'gring & it's no different on GT5 :)

My $0.02, no change please :D

Spa is an excellent track, as others have said, its a better race track.
But the ring is a whole different kind of special. Nothing is as thrilling as the ring and nothing can match it for its ability to give you the most exciting and satisfying experiences behind our virtual wheels.

Can't vote in the poll, because my choices aren't really offered.

*CAN* Spa become a GT5 classic? Of course. *WILL* it? Who knows?

If we're putting Spa up against the classic Nordschleife, I'd prefer to have the older (larger) Spa layout so we have an apples-to-apples comparison.

Of course, then I'd also like to have the older, larger Monza layout to compare to both of them... :D

Lets see: SPA=Unglitchable
Nurburgring 24 HR=Glitchable

Yeah lets go with Nurburgring 24 HR for a quick $2 million.

It is? what's the deal with the glitch? only been playing online a couple months so am not familiar. Not that I care too much but I am curious & would be keen for your inpu

It shouldn't matter because it shouldn't work anymore. :indiff:

Anyway, I think both are about equal. Although Spa does lose out from a pathetic penalty system, but then the Nurburgring is hard to get around without a penalty anyway...Spa though is a good well rounded track, but Nurburgring is rather well rounded too, just a lot twistier.

Michael Schumacher's Favourite Track - "Far and away, Spa"

Alain Prost - "Old Nurburgring and Current Spa"

Mark Webber - "Spa"

Di Resta - "Spa is the favourite F1 Drivers track"

Massa - "Suzuka is up there with Spa"

ITV - "Spa invariably tops straw polls asking drivers and fans to name their favourite circuit, and it's easy to see why".

Definitely no change from that 2 cents...lol.

You can break out of Spa, I've done it. There's no point though, as you don't get anywhere. I've managed to get a photo of my Dodge Ram in the support pitlane.

Spa is nice and all, but the Ring is the most challenging course for honing driving skills. Spa is like a shortened and simplified version of Nurburgring.

And how many of those quotes come from instances when they were even considering tracks that F1 at the time didn't race on? Or racing non-F1 cars on? Can't help but notice that not a single of those quotes comes from any drivers who regularly drive anything other than F1 cars on F1 tracks, too(depending I suppose on when the AP quote was from). I wonder what track the drivers who regularly race in the VLN events would pick? Or what the regular NASCAR Sprint Cup drivers would pick?

Obviously all claims of "it's a fact" and "everyone agrees" are silly, but those quotes don't really prove or disprove anything either.

My own useless opinion: The Nordschleife is by far the more enjoyable to drive, but it is so twisty and bumpy that it is not ideal for actual racing, at least not of the quick-and-urgent variety that makes up most online racing. Spa is great and much better as a pure racing track, but it is so flat(the road surface itself) and so wide that after a while I find it gets rather boring. Overall, I prefer the Nordschleife in all its forms.

Looks like I would have lost that wager! Surprising to see, I would have thought the general consensus among drivers would be Nürbürgring so I am genuinely surprised.

Still the Mecca of motor sports though, that will never change :)

A good lap of Spa, you feel like things really flowed, it just feels natural, organic.

A good lap of the Nordschleife, you feel like you're just lucky you survived it. :D

I really would like to see some of the classic - LONG - race courses make their way into the game. LeMans is great, of course, and the Nordschleife is a monster, but I'd love to see races like the Mille Miglia, Carrera Panamerica, etc.

And, of course, old Spa and old Monza, as I mentioned above.

I think in general the 'ring will always be the favourite of the majority in any game, but I just don't get it, Its no good for racing in my eyes, just good for hot lapping, and unless you spend hours and hours there its hard to master.

Spa for me is the best track in the game, great for racing, great for hot lapping and all together its a fantastic track. It feel so good when you ace a lap, it all seems to flow nice and smoothly.

As far as I'm aware, there hasn't been a multi-page "So what's the big deal about Nurburgring?" thread like the one currently going for Francorchamps.

The renditions of old spa that I have tried are actually pretty boring on modern car. High speed with nothing happening. As a race track modern Spa is just superior compared to old one.

In which about 95% of the posts are of people passionately defending Spa, it's hardly a hate thread...

That's why we keep getting back trying to die again.
