Dear PD,

Here is a User Story for what I'd like to be able to do in GT6.

As a Race Series Host, I'd like to host a race series based on the rules of Spec Miata racing in real life. I'd like to be able to carefully specify which performance parts are allowed on the car to be "Spec" and have the game automatically restrict the parts to those parts. For example, maybe the "Sport Suspension" is allowed but not the "Fully Configurable Suspension" is not. I'd love to have more control than that even, like spring rates, etc. But in GT5 terms, just saying this part is allowed and this one isn't, that shoud work in the interim. The PP and HP system we currently have is not robust enough to do this today. Need to be able to specify it on a part by part basis. When racers join the hosted event, the game should warn them that they are out of spec. And when they go into Settings for the car, it should visibly show them which parts they have to remove (or add) to be in "Spec". This would greatly ease the pain of having to tell people over and over "be sure to put on Racing tires" or whatever.

Also, I'd like the drivers to be able to fully customize the paint of the cars, just like in Spec Miata (livery editor should help there). Take a look at some videos of Spec Miata racing to see some examples of this.

These two small changes would allow me to host Spec Miata racing for years to come.

Thanks for listening,

MX

It would be really nice if you could chose a group of cars and then especified individual hp and wheight for each one of them.
It would save a lot of time to all the series hosts

Only sports suspension but still allow racing slicks?

Makes sense...

Obviously, when we have full configuration abilities for a given online race, the specifics of the rules will become more clear. I know that the Spec Miatas run R-Compound tires. They also have a specific required suspension package. You're probably right that you'd want to give the racers full customization options on the suspension. I was just using the sport suspension as an example because it's somewhat restricted.

Off the top of my head, a Spec Miata upgrade sheet would look something like this:

1. Racing hard tires.
2. Customizable suspension?
3. Sport Exhaust
4. Roll cage (might be a nice addition in 6)
5. Full weight reduction.
6. LSD
7. Custom paint job.

Transmission should not be modified. Should not be able to add a wing. No engine modifications can be made. As you can see, in a one make race like this, you don't need a PP or HP restriction. This is what I'm looking for.

Oh, and it would be nice if we could get a hard top version of the car ... plus a top down version of the car. ;)

Yes, I like this option as well for multi-car races and custom balancing.

I'd think the tires would be more like SM than RH, in terms of an overall tire performance spectrum. Aren't they ~140 UTQG treadwear rating?

Conceptually, I would suggest (being aware that GT5 doesn't really hit this even with its highly-flawed tire model)...

RX = non-street legal race slicks

SS = 40-80 TW
SM = ~140-ish TW
SH = ~180+ TW

CX = 300 and up... but I'm not even sure there need to be six "street" grades of tires, realistically. Maybe just CS at ~300 to 400 TW and CH at 500-600 and up?

(Of course, this is a detail that bears more on how one would design a "Spec Miata" class, vs. the overall idea that it would be nice to have support for specific upgrade menus for cars in online or offline events.)

"All cars shall use the Toyo Proxes RA1 (205/50R15)."

Looks like it's a 100 treadwear tire. And since it's a DOT approved tire, then yeah, I agree this should fall into the sports category instead of the R category. Probably sport soft then?

The more options available to online event organisers the better imo.
