Spintires: Mudrunner/snowrunner

Will it be available for xbox1/ps4? I think the "original" spintires was a PC game.

Original SpinTires (and the Chernobyl DLC) won't be available for consoles. SnowRunner (MudRunner 2) will release on pc/ps4/xbox early next year.

Alaska
SnowRunner will feature three regions at launch - Michigan, Alaska, and Taymir - each consisting of several maps, many of them several times larger than those in MudRunner. Last month we showed you some shots of Michigan, so this month, we’d like to show off the snowy wonderland that is Alaska!

Living out here is no joke. Bring a thermos.

The vast white wilderness awaits you.

Thankfully the ice is thick.

Road Closed. Do we care? Not really.

You can download these screenshots in 1920x1080 resolution here.

DAN 96320
What vehicle better to brave the snow with than the DAN 96320. This repurposed Russian missile vehicle might not win any beauty contests but it will carry your cargo through the most hostile of environments.

As always, it’s been a busy month for the development team, which is focusing on matchmaking and voice chat. We consider Multiplayer an essential part of SnowRunner, and we know a huge portion of the MudRunner community enjoys playing with friends. Gone will be the days of “ghost trucks” floating over mud. Not only will other trucks clearly affect the environment around them, we also want players to have solid tools to make playing with friends a breeze.

We hope this brief excursion into Alaska has been enjoyable! If you haven't done so already, we encourage you to join our Discord to hang out with other drivers, players, and the team. Share your MudRunner mods, screenshots, and stories while you wait for SnowRunner! https://discord.gg/AUZHNqy

See you in the snow!

This new version of Mudrunner is looking real good. I'm looking forward to it.

Hello SnowRunners!

Winter has come, and the team continues to work hard to make sure SnowRunner will be the best off-roading experience ever. In the previous two month’s updates, we’ve shown off Alaska and Michigan, our two U.S. regions. This month, we’d like to give you a glimpse into Taymir, our Russian region.

Make your way deep into the boggy forests of Taymir. Take your pick of work from among those seeking contractors - not many come out this far. Perhaps you’ll pick up a job to scout some territory for a young oil company. Take care not to get stuck in the mud though, or your vehicle might join the other abandoned Soviet era architecture as it sinks slowly into the bog.

To find oil you’ll have to use a seismic vibrator, allowing you to inject low-frequency vibrations into the earth to tell if there’s oil. Not all vehicles are capable of mounting one, so make sure you pick the right one for the job.

SnowRunner Launch Vehicle Roster
SnowRunner will feature a total of 40 vehicles at launch. The team has put in a huge amount of effort to find and recreate classic Russian and American inspired vehicles. Striking a good balance between different roles and looks is important to us, so we hope you like the vehicles we’ve revealed so far.

We reveal one vehicle every Friday, and you can view everything we’ve posted so far here:
https://forums.focus-home.com/topic/42658/vehicle-presentations

In-Game Loading Screens
We’re also excited to share some of the loading screens you will see in SnowRunner. They’re a good example of how just how varied the maps in the three regions can be.

A splash of color in Taymir, Russia.

The Michigan bog sometimes looks like a post-apocalyptic wasteland.

Alaska is beautiful even in the mud.

You can download these screens below:

Azov 53-19 “Nara”
A monthly community update without a vehicle presentation is like a truck without a horn, so without further preamble, let us * honk * present the Azov 5319 “Nara”! Try not to confuse it with a tank. If you’re helming this, obstacles become something you go through, not around. If you squint at the image below, you can even see the driver having the time of his life.

It’s been a pleasure to share this news with you all, and we hope you’ve enjoyed the read! While the community team will be taking some time off over the holidays, we have more news coming in January, so keep your eyes on our social media channels and the forums! We wish you all a fantastic holiday!

We’ll see you in the snow.

Summary of all the info already known about SnowRunner.

Maps and Regions
  • Three regions will be presented on the release of the game: Alaska, Michigan and Taymir, each will consist of several maps (some of them will be four times larger than maps from MudRunner).
  • Maps will be connected by tunnels through which you can navigate without having to start a new game, but as a rule, to open such a tunnel you will have to complete a certain task.
  • Each region differs from the other in its music, background and some other features.
Trucks and Tuning
  • At the time of release, 40 trucks were announced, which is inspired by classic Soviet, Russian and American models.
  • Each car has a well-developed cab and working speedometer, tachometer, etc.
  • From tuning, at least painting, changing the type of tires*, installing snorkels, chains on wheels, truck drive type and differential lock type - that will directly affect the off-road qualities of a truck.
  • The damage system has been overhauled and improved to simulate more realistic damage (wheels, engine...).
Loads and Tasks
  • New types of cargo, the weight of which now affects physics and the gameplay as a whole (the list is incomplete):
    • concrete slabs
    • iron beams
    • wooden boxes
    • wooden boards
    • concrete pipes.
  • Along with the usual add-ons, a completely new one will be added: a “seismic vibrator”, which seems to add a completely new type of activity - the search for oil.
  • For the tasks you perform, you will receive a cash reward and also improve your “driver rating” (it is still unknown what exactly it affects).
  • New cargoes carry with them new tasks, one of which will be the construction and restoration of bridges.
Graphics and Physics
  • Saber Interactive transferred the terrain simulation from MudRunner to its own Swarm Engine - therefore, the graphic component is significantly improved, and the terrain-deformation physics that the game is famous for is carefully preserved.
  • The physics of the game has been significantly revised and now significantly more parameters are taken into account in the calculations.
  • Winter maps will bring several new surfaces: snow, icy roads and ice - each of which has its own physics of interaction with transport.
  • Drawing range increased.
  • System requirements will be slightly higher, but not by much. If your PC could run MudRunner, then you can play SnowRunner too.
Mods
  • Support for mods will be from the moment the game is released.
  • The team’s goal is to add mod support to consoles after release.
Multiplayer
  • Multiplayer will support up to four players.
  • “Ghost Trucks” will no longer be. Trucks of your friends will actively influence the world around you.
  • There are no plans for cross-platform multiplayer yet.
Game release date and Price
  • The release of the game is scheduled for spring 2020 (through March inclusive)
  • It is planned to simultaneously released to PC, PS4 and XBox One. On PC, the game will be released in the Epic Games Store.
  • The price of the game has not yet been announced

Epic Store only is disappointing. First WRC8 and now this. I'd understand more if they are a new startup dev but didn't Spintires & Mudrunner make enough $$ so they don't have to sell out like this? :irked:

I thought microtransactions and season passes were bad, but this exclusive crap is absolute 🤬

Probably one of my most anticipated games of all time, the new features, along with the terrain and the list of 40 trucks just keeps getting better...

At least 2 Oshkosh trucks!
IH Paystar 5000 6x6
GMC MH9500
White-Westernstar

Some first time's for licenced' trucks in a video-game here.

First of the new photos confirms the AM General M939 is in the game! +The White with those accurate Bias-Ply vintage Mud and Snow tires looks amazing.

Hello SnowRunners!

Get ready for a big update! We have a three-minute developer update, videos from the community, information on the Season Pass, and a new vehicle presentation. Hold on to your hats.

Developer Update
We’re super excited to bring you this developer diary, answering some of the most burning questions on everyone’s minds. Learn about the graphical and technical improvements, modding support, and more! We know many of you are hoping for a release date, so I want to thank you for your patience, and assure you right now that we will be announcing it soon.

Please keep in mind that this is all in-game footage.

Season Pass
Many of you have already seen information regarding this on various websites, so to clear up any confusion we’re happy to confirm that there will be a Season Pass, which includes a series of content chunks we want to bring to SnowRunner post-launch. We’re very excited to be able to continue expanding and improving the game after its launch.

Derry Longhorn 3194
Originally manufactured on a repurposed ironworks site somewhere in the northern U.S., Derry Longhorn trucks have been a staple of military logistics for decades. Designed in the 70's, the 3194 is not a particularly sophisticated transport vehicle, but despite its lackluster fuel efficiency and relatively weak stock engine, it has been used by the army as a main battle tank carrier both domestically and beyond the border.

Thank you all for reading and watching! Starting next week, we will be ramping up the news output, with blogs, gameplay videos, and more, all the way up until SnowRunner launches.

We’ll see you in the snow.

Really want to jump into this. But with limited time and a sequel on the horizon. Think it’s best to wait for Snow Runner.

Really want to jump into this. But with limited time and a sequel on the horizon. Think it’s best to wait for Snow Runner.

If it's on sale, I'd still recommend buying this one to get yourself into the mood for SnowRunner. The actual objectives are fairly easy to complete, but the replayability is pretty high assuming you don't have a short attention span or don't get bored by driving fairly slowly. They have already said that SnowRunner will have new trucks, kinda implying the MudRunner trucks won't be making the jump over, and the maps won't be transferring over so you will get a little different experience with MudRunner.

Personally I thought the American Wilds expansion was pretty weak, I certainly wouldn't pay full price for it. I got it on sale for like $7 and didn't really feel like it was a great buy. I think the bundle pack is on sale on Xbox right now for $13, around that price I'd say it's easily worth it.

Are you ready to enter the garage?

Customizing your vehicle is an important aspect of SnowRunner. While there are many customization options that affect gameplay, such as your engine, tires, and suspension, the purpose of this article is to present some of the ways in which you can personalize the look of your vehicle – that is, before you cover it in mud and roll it down an icy mountain.

Aside from gameplay-related options, there are two main ways to customize your truck’s appearance: alterations and additions to the vehicle, and paint jobs. All of this is done in the garage, a building on the map that you must first discover.

Giving your truck a new paint job is easy. With a large range of colors and schemes to choose from, this is your chance to be the first to transport drilling equipment in Alaska in a bright pink Freightliner.

There are a truck-load of possibilities when it comes to customizing your vehicle, such as bumpers, rims, exhausts, fenders, and more! The options you have will depend on the vehicle you want to customize. Some vehicles will even have additional lights, such as the Chevy Silverado’s roof fog lighters and beacons.

These options have to be earned. Put your wheels to the mud, rock, and ice, and earn money and experience to unlock everything. With this ladybug-looking Derry Longhorn, for instance, picking a new exhaust, bumper, and rims can dramatically change its appearance.

We hope you’ve enjoyed this glimpse into how you can personalize your vehicle in SnowRunner. We look forward to sharing a lot more about customization that affects gameplay soon as well!

How do you plan to customize your vehicle? Let us know in the comments below!

Hello SnowRunners!

Let’s talk about terrain.

SnowRunner has evolved considerably in every department since MudRunner, and when it comes to terrain physics and its behaviour in relation to vehicles, our goal is to be at the top of the industry. To illustrate our efforts in this department, we’re excited to share the details of how we’ve both expanded and deepened the terrain physics in SnowRunner.

Driving in mud
In SnowRunner, there are extrudable surfaces (grass, dirt, sand, etc.) and non-extrudable surfaces (asphalt, concrete, rock, etc.). Extrudable surfaces all have a different base viscosity, meaning that you’re more likely to get stuck when driving on sand compared to driving on grass, for example.

Note: this is new to SnowRunner; in MudRunner all surfaces had the same base viscosity.

Additionally, viscosity is higher where ground looks darker (has a dark tint). In MudRunner, tint had two colors (brown for grassy surfaces and greenish for others). In Snowrunner, tint is painted with a colored brush, but the idea is the same (darker = more viscosity and a higher chance to get stuck).

Another thing that changes the way vehicles dig into terrain is so-called “extrusion data”. You can’t see it in the game, but map creators can paint it with a special brush. It’s often used to make swamps, mud roads, or other hard-to-pass routes actually difficult to traverse.

Note: SnowRunner improves on MudRunner in that those “hidden extrusions” can’t be too deep for certain ground types (i.e. grass that looks dry and solid), making driving more predictable.

But what is fundamentally new in Snowrunner, is the “wetness mask”. The map author paints it with a special brush, making ground look wet where it should (in MudRunner the ground looked dry everywhere).

The wetness mask affects viscosity in the same way tint does, so you are more likely to get stuck on wet surfaces.

Driving in snow
Snowy surfaces can have different snow depth. You can’t see it in the game (snow depth is painted in the map editor with a special brush), but vehicles behave differently depending on the depth of the snow it’s driving over.

When snow depth is zero, you will see your wheels digging into the mud. When driving in deep snow however, you will see snow chunks flying from under your wheels, and your vehicle will behave differently. This means that the vehicle will sink into the snow until it reaches the ground below.

Note: Off-road tires improve vehicle off-road capabilities for both snow and mud environments.

If the ground below the snow is non-extrudable (i.e. snow bank on asphalt), the vehicle will sink no further.

Additionally, deep snow always behaves like a surface with high viscosity, so snow that looks “darker” (has dark “tint”) isn’t more difficult to traverse, unlike mud.

Note: There is no “wet” snow, as the wetness mask is ignored for snowy surfaces.

On winter levels, non-extrudable surfaces painted over with the wetness mark acts as ice. Vehicles will slide naturally on ice, unless special wheels are installed.

For both and snow and mud environments, there is always a trade-off between vehicle mass and its off-road behaviour. Loaded vehicles will sink deeper, but the wheels have better traction with the ground.

... but only if the mass is distributed properly!

Driving in Water
Water in Snowrunner, as in Mudrunner, can flow at different speeds. When crossing a river, natural rules apply - heavy vehicles are less affected by the current and lighter vehicles are more prone to floating and capsizing.

New in Snowrunner is that vehicles can be equipped with different snorkels that change the maximum water depth that a vehicle can traverse before taking damage.

Thank you all for reading our blog on terrain physics, we hope you’ve enjoyed it! We can’t wait for you to discover and explore the varied environments of SnowRunner with our huge roster of vehicles.

See you in the snow!

I'll make one more post of this here then I'll likely make a separate thread. I'm making a Mudrunner inspired game on Dreams that I'll hopefully be able to release before too long. I've been tinkering the past few days and am finally starting to get it to drive like I want. It's been quite the evolution. It's loads of fun tearing it up in 3rd and I even put in an overdrive which get's real wild. The game will have varying traction depending on the surface you are on, vegetation that can be pushed over, and water to drive through that will hopefully have currents. There's still lots of work to be done but Dreams is a powerful game and the more I familiarize myself with it the faster progress is made.
